Abstract

本発明は、画像担持体に対して書込み光を照射する書込み装置に対して、その発光面を清掃する装置に関し、特に、清掃部材をワイヤにより往復移動させる機構を簡素化した画像形成装置に関する。

【従来の技術】
電子写真方式を用いて用紙に画像を形成する画像形成装置においては、画像担持体としての感光体ドラムに対して帯電部材により一様な帯電を行ってから、書込み装置から画像の光を照射して静電潜像を形成し、その静電潜像にトナーを付着させてトナー画像として可視像化させている。そして、前記感光体ドラムに形成したトナー画像を用紙に転写し、定着装置を通してトナー画像を用紙に定着し、排出トレイに排出させるようにしている。前記画像担持体に対して光を照射するための書込み装置としては、レーザ光を用いる方式の他に、LED(発光ダイオード)を多数並べた書込みヘッドを用い、前記書込み装置列の任意のものを、画像情報にしたがって発光させて書込みを行う方式も多用されている。前記LEDを用いる書込み装置は、現像装置に近接した位置で感光体ドラムに光を照射して、書込みの動作を行うものであるために、トナー等が付着しやすいものであり、前記発光面にトナー等が付着することにより、感光体ドラムに照射される光が弱くなるという問題が発生する。そして、前記感光体ドラムにおいて、静電潜像部分と他の光が照射されない部分との間で、電位差が小さい場合には、トナー画像の濃度が薄くなったり、画像が不鮮明になる等の欠点が発生する。そこで、前述したような問題を解消するために、クリーニング手段を設けておき、発光面の汚れが検知されたときに、清掃部材を移動させて、汚れを除去することが提案されている(例えば、特許文献1を参照)。

【発明が解決しようとする課題】
ところが、前記従来例のように、LEDを用いた書込み装置の発光面を清掃する清掃部材を用いる場合に、汚れ検知手段の配置位置によっては、汚れの検知情報が正確なものとして得られないという問題がある。また、書込み装置に対して清掃部材を移動させるための駆動機構を、書込み装置の周囲の狭い空間部に配置する必要があるが、従来の清掃部材駆動機構は、その要望に十分に対応できないものであった。その他に、清掃部材を書込み装置の発光面に沿わせて移動させるためには、モータの駆動方式や、清掃部材を案内するための機構等にも、多くの改善が望まれているのが現状である。

本発明は、前述したような従来のクリーニング手段に代えて、清掃部材の駆動機構を簡素化でき、清掃作用を容易に行い得る装置を提供することを目的としている。

本発明は、画像担持体に対する画像記録部に書込み手段を配置し、帯電された画像担持体に前記書込み手段から画像の光を照射して静電潜像を形成する画像形成装置に関する。請求項1の発明は、前記書込み装置の発光面に対向させて配置し、前記発光面を清掃するための清掃部材を前記書込み部材の長さ方向に移動可能に設け、前記書込み装置の幅方向の両側に設ける清掃部材のガイド手段と、前記書込み装置の長さ方向の両端部に設ける清掃部材の退避領域と、前記清掃部材を移動させるために、前記書込み装置の長さ方向の両端部の外側に配置するプーリと、前記2つのプーリに掛け渡す無端状のワイヤと、前記ワイヤに設ける係合部材と、前記清掃部材の移動方向両側に設ける前記係合部材に対応させる被係合部材と、を設け、前記ワイヤを駆動することにより、前記ワイヤに設ける係合部材を、清掃部材の被係合部材に係合させて、前記清掃部材を書込み装置に沿わせて往復移動させ、書込み装置の発光面の清掃作用を行うことを特徴とする。

【発明の実施の形態】
以下図面を参照して、本発明の実施の形態について説明するが、まず、本発明のクリーニング手段を適用可能な画像形成装置の構成を、図1にしたがって説明する。図1に示す例は、小型の画像形成装置として構成しているもので、装置本体の下部に設ける給紙部2には、任意のサイズの用紙を収容可能な給紙トレイ3を装着し、給紙ローラ4により用紙を1枚ずつ取り出して用紙搬送路5に向けて給紙する。前記用紙搬送路5には、搬送ローラ装置5a、5bを所定の間隔を空けて配置しており、用紙搬送路5内を搬送される用紙は、記録部7を通る際にトナー画像が転写され、定着装置8によりトナー画像が用紙に定着されて、排出ローラ装置9により排出トレイ9aに排出される。また、前記給紙トレイ3からの給紙系統の他に、装置の側部に開閉可能な手差しトレイ6を配置しており、定型サイズ以外の用紙類を用いる場合に、前記手差しトレイ6から用紙を挿入して、給紙ローラ6aにより用紙搬送路5に向けて給紙することもできるようにしている。
