【0073】
この指定に基づいて、ブラウザのバックアップ・ファイル/user/tmp/viewer_selectionの内容が更新される。
コピーは所定の記憶場所例えば/export/home1/sdc_image_pool/importに行われる。
すなわち、ブラウザは/export/home1/sdc_image_pool/importから画像をインポートして表示する。

TECHNICAL FIELD OF THE INVENTION
The present invention relates to an image processing method and apparatus, and a magnetic resonance imaging apparatus, and more particularly, to a method and apparatus for performing registration of two types of images and a magnetic resonance imaging apparatus.
[0002]
[Prior art]
In the diagnosis of medical images, a composite image obtained by fusing two images of the same part of the same patient, which are captured by different methods, may be used. To create such a composite image, the two images are aligned. Position adjustment also includes magnification adjustment. This operation is called registration. A composite image is created by fusing the two registered images.
[0003]
The registration is performed for the reference image u (x) and the candidate image v (x) by obtaining a transformation that maximizes mutual information of both the reference image u (x) and the candidate image v (x). That is,

[Problems to be solved by the invention]
In a magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) apparatus, since images having different characteristics such as a T1-weighted image and a T2-weighted image can be obtained for the same site, medical usefulness is obtained by registering the images. However, since image registration is performed using a dedicated computer such as a work station, it is not user-friendly for medical personnel such as doctors.
[0015]
Therefore, an object of the present invention is to realize an image processing method and apparatus capable of performing registration of an MRI image in a user-friendly manner for medical personnel and a magnetic resonance imaging apparatus including such an image processing apparatus.
[0016]
[Means for Solving the Problems]
(1) According to one aspect of the invention for solving the above-described problem, in an MRI image database, two types of images having the same examination but different series are designated, and the two types of designated images are designated. Is read from the database to perform registration, and the image obtained by the registration is written to the database as a third type of image different in series from the two types of images, and the third type of An image processing method for displaying an image.
[0017]
(2) According to another aspect of the invention for solving the above-described problem, the present invention provides a MRI image database, comprising: a designation unit that designates two types of images having the same examination but different series, and A registration unit that reads out the types of images from the database and performs registration, and writes the images obtained by the registration as a third type of image having a different series from the two types of images in the database. An image processing apparatus comprising: a writing unit; and a display unit that displays the third type of image.
[0018]
(3) According to another aspect of the present invention, there is provided an imaging unit that captures a medical MRI image using magnetic resonance, and a database that stores the MRI image captured by the imaging unit. Specifying means for specifying two types of images having the same examination but different series in the database; registration means for reading out the specified two types of images from the database to perform registration; Writing means for writing the image obtained by the translation into the database as a third type of image different in series from the two types of images, and display means for displaying the third type of image. A magnetic resonance imaging apparatus comprising:
[0019]
In the invention according to each of the above aspects, for the database of MRI images, two types of images having the same examination but different series are specified, and the specified two types of images are read from the database to perform registration. The image obtained by the translation is written in a database as a third type of image different in series from the two types of images, and is displayed. Here, the handling of the MRI image is performed using an exercise or a series familiar to the medical staff, so that the medical staff is user-friendly.
[0020]
It is preferable that the two types of images have characteristics complementary to each other in that the images after registration have high medical utility. It is preferable that one of the two types of images is a T1-weighted image and the other is a T2-weighted image in that the medical utility of the image after registration is even higher.

BEST MODE FOR CARRYING OUT THE INVENTION
Hereinafter, embodiments of the present invention will be described in detail with reference to the drawings. Note that the present invention is not limited to the embodiment. FIG. 1 shows a block diagram of the magnetic resonance imaging apparatus. This device is an example of an embodiment of the present invention. An example of an embodiment relating to the device of the present invention is shown by the configuration of the present device.

The gradient magnetic field in the phase axis direction is also referred to as a phase encode gradient magnetic field or a phase encode gradient magnetic field. The gradient magnetic field in the frequency axis direction is also referred to as a read out gradient magnetic field. The readout gradient magnetic field is synonymous with the frequency encoding gradient magnetic field. In order to enable generation of such a gradient magnetic field, the

The magnetic resonance signal is a signal in a frequency domain, that is, a Fourier space. Since the magnetic resonance signal is encoded in two axes by the gradients in the phase axis direction and the frequency axis direction, the magnetic resonance signal is obtained as a signal in a two-dimensional Fourier space. The phase encode gradient and the readout gradient determine the sampling position of the signal in two-dimensional Fourier space. Hereinafter, the two-dimensional Fourier space is also referred to as a k-space.
[0029]
By reading the echo signal MR by phase encoding and frequency encoding, k-space data (data) is sampled. FIG. 2 shows a conceptual diagram of the k-space. As shown in the figure, the horizontal axis kx of the k space is the frequency axis, and the vertical axis ky is the phase axis.
[0030]
In the figure, a plurality of horizontally long rectangles each represent a data sampling position on the phase axis. The number entered in the rectangle indicates the amount of phase encoding. The phase encoding amount is normalized by π / N. N is the number of samplings in the phase direction. The sampling number in the phase direction is also called a phase encoding number or a view number. N is, for example, 64 to 256.
[0031]
The amount of phase encoding is 0 at the center of the phase axis ky. The amount of phase encoding gradually increases from the center to both ends. The polarities of the increase are opposite to each other. The sampling interval, that is, the difference between the phase encoding amounts is π / N.

FIG. 3 shows a block diagram of another type of magnetic resonance imaging apparatus. The magnetic resonance imaging apparatus shown in the figure is an example of an embodiment of the present invention. An example of an embodiment relating to the device of the present invention is shown by the configuration of the present device.
[0043]
This apparatus has a magnet system 100 'that differs from the apparatus shown in FIG. Except for the magnet system 100 ', the configuration is the same as that of the apparatus shown in FIG. 1, and the same parts are denoted by the same reference numerals and description thereof will be omitted.
[0044]
The magnet system 100 'has a main magnetic field magnet unit 102', a gradient coil unit 106 ', and an RF coil unit 108'. Each of the main magnetic field magnet section 102 'and each coil section is composed of a pair of coils opposing each other across a space. Each of them has a substantially disk shape and is arranged so as to share a central axis. The subject 1 (patient) is mounted on the
[0045]
The main magnetic field magnet unit 102 'forms a static magnetic field in the internal space of the magnet system 100'. The direction of the static magnetic field is substantially orthogonal to the direction of the body axis of the
[0046]
The gradient coil unit 106 'generates three gradient magnetic fields for giving gradients to the static magnetic field strength in directions of three axes perpendicular to each other, namely, the slice axis, the phase axis, and the frequency axis. In order to enable the generation of a gradient magnetic field in three axial directions, the gradient coil unit 106 'has three gradient coils (not shown).
[0047]
The RF coil unit 108 'transmits an RF pulse for exciting spins in the body of the subject 1 to the static magnetic field space. An electromagnetic wave generated by the excited spin, that is, a magnetic resonance signal is received by the RF coil unit 108'. The reception signal of the RF coil unit 108 'is input to the
[0048]
FIG. 4 shows an example of a pulse sequence used for imaging. This pulse sequence is a pulse sequence of a gradient echo (GRE: Gradient Echo) method.
[0049]
That is, (1) is a sequence of α ° pulses for RF excitation in the GRE method, and (2), (3), (4), and (5) are the slice gradient Gs, readout gradient Gr, It is a sequence of a phase encoding gradient Gp and a gradient echo MR. The α ° pulse is represented by the center signal. The pulse sequence proceeds from left to right along the time axis t.
[0050]
As shown in the figure, α ° excitation of spin is performed by an α ° pulse. α is 90 or less. At this time, a slice gradient Gs is applied, and selective excitation for a predetermined slice is performed.
[0051]
After α ° excitation, spin phase encoding is performed by the phase encoding gradient Gp. Next, the spin is first dephased by the readout gradient Gr, and then the spin is rephased to generate a gradient echo MR. The gradient echo MR is collected by the
[0052]
Such a pulse sequence is repeated 64 to 512 times in the period TR. The phase encoding gradient Gp is changed for each repetition, and different phase encoding is performed each time. Thus, view data of 64 to 512 views is obtained.
[0053]
View data obtained by such a pulse sequence is collected in the
[0054]
The pulse sequence is not limited to the gradient echo method, but may be another appropriate pulse sequence such as a spin echo (SE: Spin Echo) method or an echo planar imaging (EPI: Echo Planar Imaging) method.
[0055]
As the reconstructed image, a characteristic image such as a T1-weighted image or a T2-weighted image can be obtained in accordance with the imaging conditions, that is, the pulse sequence and how to select its parameter.
[0056]
For example, when a tomographic image of a head is taken, a white matter is drawn brighter than a gray matter and a CSF (cerebrospinal fluid) is drawn darker in a T1-weighted image, whereas a white matter is drawn in a T2-weighted image. Are rendered darker than gray matter and the CSF is rendered brighter. That is, the two have a complementary light-dark correspondence.
[0057]
By registering and fusing the two types of images having different characteristics in this way, it is possible to obtain a third image having new information that cannot be obtained by using only the T1-weighted image or the T2-weighted image. Such images have high medical utility.
[0058]
This apparatus has a function of performing registration. Registration is performed by the
[0059]
Hereinafter, registration will be described. The registration is performed on the reconstructed image stored in the
[0060]
The database has a hierarchical structure. The hierarchies are, from the top to the bottom, an examination, a series, and an image. Examinations are generated on a patient-by-patient basis. A series is generated for each shooting condition. Images are generated in image units. A plurality of series belong to one examination. The maximum number is, for example, 256. Multiple images belong to one series. The maximum number is, for example, 256.
[0061]
Each image has a header. The header includes image attribute information such as an examination number, a series number, an image number, an image size (length × width), the number of bits (bits), a pixel size (pixel size), and a modality (modality). included. Here, the modality is information representing a feature of an image, such as a T1-weighted image or a T2-weighted image.

For example, the user specifies a desired image for an arbitrary series A among a plurality of series belonging to one exam displayed by a browser. The series A is, for example, a series emphasized by T1. The modality is not limited to T1 emphasis and may be an appropriate modality. The designated image is one or more.

Thus, an image frame including the image A as shown in FIG. 8A is read. The image A is, for example, a T1-weighted tomographic image of the head. Image A is a halftone image showing the structure of the brain parenchyma.

As the candidate image, for example, an image frame including an image B as shown in FIG. 8B is read. The image B is, for example, a T2-weighted tomographic image of the head. Image B is a halftone image showing the structure of the brain parenchyma.
[0081]
Next, in
[0082]
Magnification adjustment is processing for making the size of the candidate image the same as that of the reference image, and is performed as follows. First, the reference image and the candidate image are binarized. Binarization is a process of setting a pixel value equal to or greater than a predetermined threshold value to 1 and a pixel value less than the threshold value to 0 for all pixels in the image frame including the image A for the reference image. In addition, for the candidate image, for all the pixels in the image frame including the image B, a pixel value equal to or larger than a predetermined threshold is set to 1 and a pixel value smaller than the threshold is set to 0.
[0083]
As a result, for example, image frames as shown in FIGS. 9A and 9B are obtained. In these image frames, the pixel values of the images a and b are all 1, and the pixel values of the other portions are all 0.
[0084]
Generally, the moment of the image is
[0085]
(Equation 6)
[0086]
Is given by the following equation:
[0087]
(Equation 7)
[0088]
Here, M (0,0) is a zero-order moment. Such a magnification k is obtained for each of the plurality of candidate images. By applying those magnifications k to each candidate image, any candidate image can be made the same size as the reference image.
[0089]
In order to perform centroid alignment, the positions of the centroids of the image a and the image b in the image frame are obtained. The coordinates (m, n) of the center of gravity are given by the following equation.
[0090]
(Equation 8)
[0091]
(Equation 9)
[0092]
Here, M (1,0) and M (0,1) are both first-order moments.
[0093]
By applying these equations to the image frames of FIGS. 9A and 9B, as shown in FIGS. 10A and 10B, the coordinates of the centers of gravity a0 and b0 of the images a and b respectively become I get it. These centers of gravity are the centers of gravity of the images a and b as well as the centers of gravity of the images A and B.
[0094]
Assuming that the coordinates of the centers of gravity a0 and b0 of the images A and B are obtained as (i0, j0) and (i0 ', j0') as shown in FIG. 11, for example, the correction amount of the center of gravity is given by the following equation. Can be
[0095]
(Equation 10)
[0096]
(Equation 11)
[0097]
Here, Δi represents the correction amount of the center of gravity position in the I-axis direction, and Δj represents the correction amount of the center of gravity position in the J-axis direction. Such a center-of-gravity position correction amount is obtained for each of the plurality of candidate images.
[0098]
By applying the magnification k and the center-of-gravity position correction amount (Δi, Δj) for each candidate image as described above to the candidate image, each of the plurality of candidate images becomes an image in the same coordinate system as the reference image. That is, transformation is performed. FIG. 12 schematically shows a state in which the transformation has been performed.
[0099]
Next, in
[0100]
To calculate mutual information, the entropy h (a) of the reference image is determined. For each candidate image, its entropy h (b) and joint entropy h (a, b) with the reference image are obtained. Then, using those entropies, mutual information is calculated by the following equation.
[0101]
(Equation 12)
[0102]
Mutual information is obtained for each of the plurality of candidate images. Since a plurality of candidate images have been transformed, mutual information is obtained under the same geometric conditions for the reference image.
[0103]
The magnitude of the mutual information indicates the degree of approximation of the candidate image to the reference image. Since the plurality of candidate images all have the same geometric condition with respect to the reference image, the magnitude of the mutual information accurately indicates the degree of approximation of the candidate image to the reference image. Therefore, the candidate image with the largest mutual information is the image closest to the reference image.
[0104]
Next, in
[0105]
In this way, when the reference image is the T1-weighted image and the candidate image is the T2-weighted image, a pair of the T1-weighted image and the T2-weighted image having the same slice position can be obtained.

As described above, registration of an MRI image is automatically performed after the user specifies two types of images, and the result is displayed. At that time, since the designation of the image is performed using an exercise or a series familiar to medical staff, the registration of the MRI image is user-friendly for the medical staff. In addition, it is user-friendly for medical personnel in that registration can be performed by directly accessing the database held by the magnetic resonance imaging apparatus.
[0116]
Further, since the registration image is added to the MRI image database as a new series of images, all the image processing tools (tool) applied to the MRI images of the normal series can be applied to this image. Therefore, by using such a tool, an image with higher medical utility can be obtained.
