Take off angle:45°

BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION
Field of the invention
The present invention relates to a photocatalyst that exhibits photocatalytic activity upon irradiation with visible light and a method for producing the same.
[0002]
Background art
It is known that photocatalysts such as titanium oxide exhibit excellent photocatalytic activities such as oxidative decomposition activity or hydrophilicity when irradiated with ultraviolet rays. Applications utilizing such properties include self-purifying materials, anti-fogging materials, and the generation of hydrogen by water splitting.
[0003]
On the other hand, sunlight and light from indoor lighting (for example, a fluorescent lamp) contain visible light at a much higher light intensity, though containing ultraviolet light. Therefore, it is desired to improve the photocatalytic activity by using sunlight and indoor illumination light with higher efficiency by causing visible light to be absorbed by the photocatalyst to express the photocatalytic activity. As a technique relating to photocatalytic activity by visible light, for example, the following is known.
[0004]
It is known that titanium oxide having oxygen deficiency obtains NOx oxidation activity under irradiation of visible light of at least 400 to 600 nm (for example, see Japanese Patent No. 3252136 (Patent Document 1)). The introduction of the oxygen vacancy is performed by subjecting titanium dioxide to a rare gas element plasma treatment.
[0005]
It is also known that, in a titanium oxide crystal, a photocatalytic activity by visible light is obtained by substituting a part of an oxygen site with a nitrogen atom and substituting a part of a titanium site with a metal element such as vanadium. (For example, refer to JP-A-2001-205104 (Patent Document 2)).
[0006]
Further, it is known that a photocatalyst composed of an oxynitride containing a transition metal such as lanthanum can provide photocatalytic activity by visible light (for example, JP-A-2002-66333 (Patent Document 3)). In addition, calcium-added oxynitride Ca0.25La0.75TiO2.25N0.75Is also known to exhibit water-decomposition performance by irradiation with visible light (see Kazunari Domen et al., "The Chemical Society of Japan, 2001 Annual Meeting (Spring) Proceedings", p. 365 (Non-Patent Document 1)).

DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE INVENTION
photocatalyst
The photocatalyst of the present invention has the formula (I): MII 1-xMIII xTiO3-yNzAnd a crystal having a perovskite structure represented by Where MIIIs a divalent metal and MIIIIs a trivalent or higher metal. The perovskite structure is ABO3And the structure is shown in FIG. In the cube shown in FIG. 1, the center of the cube is the A site, the vertex of the cube is the B site, and the center of each side is the O site. The photocatalyst of the present invention has a divalent metal M at the A site in the perovskite structure shown in FIG.IIAnd trivalent metal MIIIAnd has Ti at the B site and oxygen and nitrogen atoms at the O site. Trivalent metal M occupying 1 mole of A siteIII(Ie, x in formula (I)) is greater than 0 and less than 0.2. The O site may include not only a site having a nitrogen atom instead of an oxygen atom but also a vacant site in which an oxygen atom is simply missing (hereinafter, this site is referred to as an oxygen defect). Therefore, the molar ratio of the site having no oxygen atom to 3 moles of the O site (ie, y in the formula (I)) is the same as the molar ratio of the nitrogen atom to 3 moles of the O site (ie, z in the formula (I)). Is not always the case, and if there is an oxygen vacancy, it becomes larger by that amount. That is, y has a value of z or more. Note that the coefficient y can take a value greater than 0 and less than 3. The photocatalyst of the present invention having such a crystal structure can exhibit unexpectedly high photocatalytic activity by irradiation with visible light.
[0014]
The reason why such photocatalytic activity by visible light can be obtained is not clear, but is presumed as follows. However, the following theory is only expected and the present invention is not limited to this theory. First, the photocatalyst of the present invention has titanium at the B site, oxygen at the O site, and a divalent metal M at the A site.IITo form an oxide crystal having a perovskite structure. This perovskite-type oxide crystal has a high reducing power and oxidizing power due to electrons and holes, functions as a photocatalyst, and has a photocatalytic activity even when a certain element is doped in the crystal. It is thought that can be held. In the photocatalyst of the present invention, nitrogen is doped into a part of the O site having this crystal structure. As a result, the band structure of the photocatalyst changes, and the photocatalyst can absorb visible light on the longer wavelength side than ultraviolet light. Furthermore, in the photocatalyst of the present invention, trivalent or higher metal MIIIDoping significantly improves the photocatalytic activity by visible light. This unexpectedly high photocatalytic activity due to visible light can be attributed to the trivalent or higher metal M in the crystal.IIIIt is considered that oxygen doping that causes a decrease in photocatalytic activity was substantially eliminated or significantly reduced by the doping of. It is considered that the oxygen vacancies are mainly formed by excessive lack of oxygen from the O site when nitrogen is doped into the O site.
[0015]
Sr based on strontium titanate1-xLaxTiO3-yNzThe perovskite type crystal having the following composition will be described more specifically. First, the band structure of strontium titanate is shown in FIG. The band structure of strontium titanate, like titanium oxide, has a conduction band of 3d orbitals of titanium and a valence band of 2p orbitals of oxygen. The band gap between the conduction band and the valence band, that is, the width of the forbidden band is 3.2 eV. When the O site of the strontium titanate is doped with nitrogen, as shown in FIG. 2B, the impurity level is shifted to a position where the 2p orbital of nitrogen is more negative than the valence band formed by the 2p orbital of oxygen. Alternatively, the 2p orbital of nitrogen and the 2p orbital of oxygen are mixed, and the valence band spreads in the negative potential direction. As a result, the band gap becomes narrow. The narrower band gap means that it can be excited by absorbing lower energy than titanium oxide. Therefore, strontium titanate into which a nitrogen atom has been introduced can be excited by absorbing visible light having lower energy than ultraviolet light. Here, nitrogen atoms are usually introduced into the crystal by substituting oxygen atoms with nitrogen atoms in a reducing atmosphere. At this time, 1 mol or more of oxygen atoms is added to 1 mol of introduced nitrogen. Is missing. That is, an oxygen defect in which neither an oxygen atom nor a nitrogen atom exists in a part of the O site is generated. As shown in FIG. 2B, this oxygen vacancy has a level (Ti3+). Since the level of the oxygen vacancy exists at a position deeper than the conduction band, recombination of the electron-hole pairs excited by the interband transition is caused, thereby lowering the efficiency of the photocatalyst. In the photocatalyst of the present invention, the trivalent or higher metal MIIIIs suppressed by a certain amount to suppress the generation of oxygen vacancies which cause a decrease in the activity, and as shown in FIG.3+) Is suppressed. As described above, the photocatalyst of the present invention is considered to exhibit high photocatalytic activity upon irradiation with visible light.
