Abstract
Description
【0001】

【0112】
η0=cos2(Φ)
【0113】
η+1=(4/π2)sin2(Φ)

TECHNICAL FIELD OF THE INVENTION
The present invention relates to an optical pickup provided with a phase correction element for changing a phase distribution of a passing light beam from each light source, and an optical information processing apparatus using the same.
[0002]
[Prior art]
As means for storing video information, audio information, or data processed by a computer, optical recording media such as a CD with a recording capacity of 0.65 GB and a DVD with a recording capacity of 4.7 GB are becoming widespread. In recent years, there has been an increasing demand for further improvement in recording density and increase in capacity.
[0003]
As means for increasing the recording density of such an optical recording medium, in an optical pickup for writing or reading information on or from an optical recording medium, increasing the numerical aperture (hereinafter, referred to as NA) of an objective lens, or increasing the light source By shortening the wavelength, it is effective to reduce the diameter of the beam spot collected by the objective lens and formed on the optical recording medium.
[0004]
Therefore, for example, in the “CD optical recording medium”, the numerical aperture of the objective lens is 0.50 and the wavelength of the light source is 780 nm, but the recording density is higher than that of the “CD optical recording medium”. In the “DVD optical recording medium”, the numerical aperture of the objective lens is 0.65 and the wavelength of the light source is 660 nm. As described above, it is desired that the optical recording medium be further improved in recording density and increased in capacity.
[0005]
For this purpose, it is desired that the numerical aperture of the objective lens be further larger than 0.65 or the wavelength of the light source be shorter than 660 nm. As such a large-capacity optical recording medium and an optical information processing apparatus, for example, using a light source in the blue wavelength region and an objective lens with an NA of 0.85, which are described in Non-Patent
[0006]
While new standards based on the increase in the NA or the shortening of the wavelength have been proposed in recent years, there are CDs and DVDs as conventional optical recording media at the user's disposal. It is desirable that both of these optical recording media and the optical recording media of the new standard can be handled by the same optical information processing device. The simplest way to achieve this is to mount both a conventional optical pickup and an optical pickup for a new standard. However, with this method, it is difficult to achieve size reduction and cost reduction.
[0007]
Therefore, as shown in FIG. 31, a
[0008]
By the way, in order to converge light on optical recording media of different standards of blue, DVD, and CD with one objective lens, the following problems exist. Wavelength (λ1): 407 nm, NA (λ1): 0.65, light-irradiation side substrate thickness (t1): Infinite system incidence (parallel to the objective lens) The wavelength (λ2): 660 nm, NA (λ2): 0.65, and the light irradiation side substrate thickness (t2) ): When spots are formed on a 0.6 mm DVD optical recording medium with infinite system incidence, or wavelength (λ3): 780 nm, NA (λ3): 0.50, light irradiation side substrate thickness (t3): 1. When the light is converged on a 2 mm CD optical recording medium with infinite system incidence, spherical aberration occurs due to a difference in wavelength or a difference in substrate thickness as shown in FIGS.
[0009]
Such a problem also occurs in a DVD / CD compatible optical pickup. That is, a single objective in which the wavefront of spherical aberration is minimized at infinite system incidence on a DVD optical recording medium having a wavelength (λ2): 660 nm, NA (λ2): 0.65, and substrate thickness (t2): 0.6 mm. When the light is focused on a CD-based optical recording medium having a wavelength (λ3) of 780 nm, NA (λ3) of 0.50, and a substrate thickness (t3) of 1.2 mm using a lens by infinite system incidence, the difference in wavelength is obtained. And a spherical aberration occurs due to a difference in substrate thickness.
[0010]
For example,
[0011]
As another method, DVD-based incident light having a wavelength of 660 nm with respect to the objective lens is set to an infinite system, and CD-side incident light is set to a finite system (meaning a state in which the incident light is divergent light). Means for correcting spherical aberration caused by a difference in substrate thickness and wavelength between an optical recording medium and a CD-based optical recording medium are generally known.
[0012]
Here, Non-Patent
[0013]
Further, Non-Patent Document 3 proposes a method of recording or reproducing three types of optical recording media of a blue optical recording medium / DVD optical recording medium / CD optical recording medium with one objective lens. I have. It has three semiconductor lasers having different wavelengths of 405 nm, 650 nm, and 780 nm, and a wavelength-selective phase correction element, and uses an infinite system incident light having a wavelength of 405 nm for a 0.1 mm thick blue optical recording medium. Irradiation is performed on a DVD-based optical recording medium having a thickness of 0.6 mm using finite system incident light having a wavelength of 660 nm, and a thickness of 1.2 mm is performed using finite system incident light having a wavelength of 780 nm. The wavelength selective phase plate does not change the phase distribution for light having a wavelength of 405 nm, and the phase distribution does not change for the other light having a wavelength of 660 nm or 780 nm. Is changing. In this configuration, as a method of correcting spherical aberration due to a difference in substrate thickness, a wavelength-selective phase correction element and two types of wavefront correction means for making two wavelengths of DVD / CD into a finite system are used together. .

[0015]
[Problems to be solved by the invention]
However, with the method described in Non-Patent Document 3, sufficient wavefront performance cannot be obtained when the DVD-based optical recording medium / CD-based optical recording medium is interchangeable. In general, a marshall criterion: 0.07 λrms may be used as a reference value as a diffraction-limited spherical aberration, but in an optical pickup, a thickness error of an optical recording medium, a tilt error of an optical recording medium, an optical recording medium and an objective There are various error factors such as a defocus error due to a positional deviation from the lens. Considering the probable accumulation of aberration degradation due to these errors, spherical aberration (center Is desirably 0.03λrms or less.
[0016]
On the other hand, in the description of Non-Patent Document 3, the spherical aberration (median value) of the DVD-based optical recording medium is about 0.05λrms. This is because it is impossible to minimize the spherical aberration of both the DVD system and the CD system with one phase correction element. That is, it is inevitable to design a medium aiming at an intermediate value of the phase correction element condition that minimizes the spherical aberration of the DVD system and the CD system, and as a result, the spherical aberration cannot be sufficiently suppressed.
[0017]
Further, in the description of Non-Patent Document 3, the DVD-based optical path and the CD-based optical path are arranged in a finite system. However, if the finite system is used, there is a problem that the spherical aberration is deteriorated due to the tracking operation of the objective lens. .
[0018]
The present invention is directed to solving the above-mentioned problems of the prior art, and its object is to provide three types of optical recording media: a blue optical recording medium, a DVD optical recording medium, and a CD optical recording medium. Realize a configuration that can be irradiated with one objective lens, and in particular, sufficiently suppress the spherical aberration in each of the blue / DVD / CD optical systems (specifically, the residual spherical aberration of 0.030λrms at the designed median value) Below).
[0019]
[Means for Solving the Problems]
In order to achieve this object, an optical pickup according to
[0020]
Also, in the optical pickup according to the second or third aspect, in the optical pickup according to the first aspect, a phase correction element is provided for a wavelength of light emitted from the light source: λ1, λ2, λ3 (λ1 <λ2 <λ3). A phase difference that is an integral multiple of 2π is given to the wavelengths λ1 and λ3, and the wavelength λ3 is set to an approximately integral multiple of the wavelength λ1. The ratio: nd and the Abbe number of the d-line: νd satisfy the following conditions “1.50 <nd <1.66 and 55 <νd <85”, and depend on the glass type and phase pattern of the phase correction element. Generated spherical aberration can be corrected by the spherical aberration of the opposite polarity.
[0021]
An optical pickup according to a fourth aspect of the invention is an optical pickup that performs at least one of recording, reproducing, and erasing of information on an optical recording medium, and has a wavelength of λ1, λ2, λ3 (λ1 ≦ λ2 ≦ λ3), an objective lens for condensing the light emitted from each light source on the optical recording medium, and a numerical aperture: NA1, NA2, NA3 (NA1 ≧ NA2 ≧ NA3). An aperture limiting means for switching, and a phase correction element for changing the phase distribution of the passing light beam, wherein the phase correction element changes the phase distribution only in a region having a numerical aperture of approximately NA2 to NA3, In this case, the configuration that gives a phase difference of 2π makes it possible to correct the generated spherical aberration by the spherical aberration of the opposite polarity by the phase pattern of the phase correction element.
[0022]
Further, in the optical pickup according to the fifth and sixth aspects, in the optical pickup according to the first to fourth aspects, the phase correction element has a concentric circular shape in a plane orthogonal to the optical axis and a two-stage cross-sectional shape in the optical axis direction. A phase correction element having a rectangular phase pattern and a phase pattern having a concentric circular shape in a plane perpendicular to the optical axis and a step shape having a cross-sectional shape in the optical axis direction having three or more steps. By using the glass type and the phase pattern described above, the spherical aberration occurring in the remaining one wavelength (λ2) can be corrected by the spherical aberration of the opposite polarity.
[0023]
Further, in the optical pickup according to the seventh to twelfth aspects, in the optical pickup according to the first to sixth aspects, when the objective lens is turned on at least one of three wavelengths of the light emitted from the light source, the finite system incident light is emitted. In addition, among the three wavelengths: λ1, λ2, λ3 (λ1 ≦ λ2 ≦ λ3), when the light source of the wavelength: λ2 and the wavelength: λ3 is turned on, it is used in a finite system, and further, the light is emitted from the light source. Aperture limiting means for switching the numerical aperture according to the operating wavelength of the light to be emitted, the aperture limiting means being integrated with the phase correction element, further comprising a polarizing element for changing the polarization state, and the polarizing element Being integrated with the correction element, and having a flange portion on the phase correction element, the flange portion supporting the objective lens, or the phase correction element being integrated with the objective lens. By the movable structure, the light of one wavelength (λ3) or the light of two wavelengths (λ2, λ3) can be used as a finite system incidence, and the generated spherical aberration can be corrected by the spherical aberration of the opposite polarity, and the aperture limiting means and the polarizing element are phase corrected. The element, the phase correction element and the flange portion, and the objective lens can be made smaller through the flange portion, and the spot on the optical recording medium can be reduced by suppressing aberration deterioration.
[0024]
An optical information processing apparatus according to a fourteenth aspect uses the optical pickup according to any one of the first to thirteenth aspects to perform at least one of recording, reproducing, and erasing of information on an optical recording medium. It can be carried out.

Here, the objective lens 108 is designed such that the wavefront of spherical aberration is minimized by infinite system incidence with respect to "a blue optical recording medium having a wavelength of 407 nm, NA of 0.65, and a light-irradiation side substrate of 0.6 mm". Have been.
[0032]
The optical recording media 109a, 109b, and 109c are optical recording media having different substrate thicknesses and operating wavelengths, respectively. The optical recording medium 109a is a blue optical recording medium having a substrate thickness of 0.6 mm, and the optical recording medium 109b is a substrate thickness. The optical recording medium 109c is a DVD optical recording medium having a thickness of 0.6 mm, and the optical recording medium 109c is a CD optical recording medium having a substrate thickness of 1.2 mm. During recording or reproduction, only one of the optical recording media is set on a rotating mechanism (not shown) and rotated at high speed.
[0033]
First, a description will be given of a case of recording, reproducing, or erasing the “blue optical recording medium having a wavelength of 407 nm, NA of 0.65, and a light-irradiation side substrate of 0.6 mm” in the optical pickup configured as described above. Divergent linearly polarized light emitted from the semiconductor laser 101 having a wavelength of 407 nm is converted into substantially parallel light by the coupling lens 102, passes through the polarization beam splitter 103, dichroic prisms 203 and 303, and is deflected by 90 degrees by the prism 104. The light passes through the

Next, a case of recording, reproducing, or erasing a “DVD-based optical recording medium having a wavelength of 660 nm, an NA of 0.65, and a substrate thickness of 0.6 mm on the light irradiation side” will be described. In recent years, a hologram unit in which a light receiving / emitting element is installed in one can and a light beam is separated using a hologram has been generally used for a DVD pickup. As shown in FIG. 2, the hologram unit 201 is configured by integrating the semiconductor laser 201a, the hologram 201b, and the light receiving element 201c. The light of 660 nm emitted from the semiconductor laser 201a of the hologram unit 201 passes through the hologram 201b and is converted into parallel light by the coupling lens 202. The dichroic prism 203 that transmits light of wavelength 407nm and reflects light of wavelength 660nm. [0036]
The light reflected from the optical recording medium 109b is deflected by the prism 104, reflected by the dichroic prism 203, is converged by the coupling lens 202, and is converged by the hologram 201b into the same can as the semiconductor laser 201a as shown in FIG. The light is diffracted in a certain light receiving element 201c and received by the light receiving element 201c. An aberration signal, an information signal, and a servo signal are detected from the light receiving element 201c.
[0037]
Subsequently, the case of recording, reproducing, or erasing a “CD-based optical recording medium with a working wavelength of 780 nm, NA of 0.50, and a light-irradiation-side substrate thickness of 1.2 mm” will be described. A hologram unit is generally used for a CD pickup as well as a DVD pickup in which a light emitting / receiving element is placed in one can and a light beam is separated using a hologram. Similarly to the hologram unit 201 shown in FIG. 1, a

The light reflected from the optical recording medium 109c is deflected by the prism 104, reflected by the dichroic prism 303, converted into convergent light by the coupling lens 302, diffracted in the direction of the light receiving element 301c, and received by the light receiving element 301c. An aberration signal, an information signal, and a servo signal are detected from the light receiving element 301c.

When the light of wavelength 660 nm is incident on the single objective lens 108 having the wavelength of 407 nm and the wavefront of the spherical aberration is minimized in an infinite system to form a spot on the DVD-based optical recording medium 109b, or the light of wavelength 780 nm is infinitely changed. When a spot is formed on the CD-based optical recording medium 109c by being made incident by a system, spherical aberration occurs due to a difference in wavelength or a difference in substrate thickness, as shown in FIGS. FIG. 5 shows spherical aberration at a wavelength of 407 nm. In the first embodiment, the

(Equation 1)
δ (λ) = 2π (n−1) h / λ
Since it is given by (Equation 1), it is only necessary to select a substrate material in which δ (407 nm) and δ (780 nm) are an integral multiple of 2π and a height h. For example, when h: 4.02 μm and BaCD5 manufactured by HOYA as a substrate material, n: 1.604949, δ (407 nm): 12.0π (= 2.0π × 6), λ for λ: 407 nm : 660 nm, n: 1.586051, δ (660 nm): 7.1π (= 1.1 π), λ: 780 nm, n: 1.582509, δ (780 nm): 6.0 π (= 2.0π × 3).
[0046]
FIG. 7 shows a glass map of HOYA. Glass types that meet the conditions of (Equation 2) and (Equation 3) marked with circles in FIG. 7 are shown in, for example, (Table 1). If one of the glass types shown is selected, the phase difference error at a wavelength of 407 nm and a wavelength of 780 nm is within 0.002π, and the wavelengths of 407 nm and 780 nm can be set as dead zones.

Using such a material, + 1st-order diffraction is performed on light having a wavelength of 660 nm, and spherical aberration generated when light emitted from the objective lens 108 passes through a DVD-based optical recording medium 109b having a thickness of 0.6 mm; What is necessary is just to form a pitch shape that cancels out the sum of the spherical aberrations of the optical system including the objective lens 108 and the

A resin material having good moldability and transferability that satisfies the range shown in FIG. 7 may be used. In this case, it is formed by injection molding using a mold having a pattern of concentric interference fringes.
[0052]
Further, as can be seen from the glass map of FIG. 7 and the condition of (Equation 1), selection of a glass type that is an integral multiple of 2π at the wavelengths of 407 nm and 660 nm or an integer multiple of 2π at the wavelengths of 660 nm and 780 nm. There are many types of glass whose wavelength ratio is 2π at two wavelengths when the wavelength ratio of 407 nm and the wavelength of 780 nm are selected to be integer times (close to twice).
[0053]
Further, as another example of the first embodiment, light having a wavelength of 660 nm is incident in an infinite system on a single objective lens 108 having a minimum wavefront aberration at a wavelength of 400 nm to form a spot on a DVD-based optical recording medium 109b. When the light having a wavelength of 780 nm is incident in an infinite system to form a spot on the CD-based optical recording medium 109c, spherical aberration occurs due to a difference in wavelength or a difference in substrate thickness. In order to generate spherical aberration having a polarity opposite to that of the DVD system generated as shown in FIG. 3, the DVD system optical path is configured as a finite system and a

However, the wavefront aberration of the DVD optical path cannot be sufficiently suppressed only by the finite system configuration. Therefore, in another example of the first embodiment, the wavefront aberration of the optical path of the DVD system is suppressed by providing a finite system configuration and including a phase correction element. The
[0056]
The
[0057]
(Equation 4)
δ (λ) = 2π (n−1) h / λ
Here, a substrate material whose δ (400 nm) is an integral multiple of 2π and a depth h may be selected. For example, when h = 1.5758 μm and HOYA FCD1 as a substrate material, n = 1.507672 for λ = 400 nm, δ (400 nm) = 4π (= 2.0π × 2), and λ = 660 nm N = 1.495051, δ (660 nm) = 2.36π (= 0.36π), n = 1.492821 for λ = 780 nm, δ (780 nm) = 1.99π. Under such conditions, a phase is added to the light having the wavelength of 660 nm, and the spherical aberration generated when the light emitted from the objective lens 108 passes through the DVD-based optical recording medium 109b having a thickness of 0.6 mm and the objective lens 108 It is only necessary to form a staircase shape that cancels the sum of spherical aberrations of the optical system including the
[0058]
Next, a CD optical path for performing wavefront correction by finite system incidence will be described. The CD optical system employs a finite system. The finite system means that the light beam incident on the objective lens is in a divergent state or a convergent state. In general, changing the divergence state of the light beam incident on the objective lens is equivalent to changing the spherical aberration, so that a divergence state capable of reducing the spherical aberration may be selected.
[0059]
As shown in FIG. 10, when the object distance (corresponding to the distance between the light source and the objective lens) of the CD optical system composed of the finite system is changed, the wavefront of the spherical aberration is suppressed. The wavefront aberration is 0.03 λrms or less, and the wavefront correction can be sufficiently performed only with the finite configuration for the CD optical path. According to FIG. 10, wavefront degradation is minimized near the object distance of 53 mm. FIG. 10 illustrates the case where no parts are present between the objective lens and the light source. However, in actuality, a coupling lens for shortening the optical path length as shown in FIG. 1 is provided between the objective lens and the light source. 302 are arranged.
[0060]
Further, when light having the same light beam diameter and a wavelength of 660 nm is incident on an objective lens having the best wavefront at a wavelength of 407 nm in an infinite system, the refractive power is reduced and the numerical aperture is reduced. For this reason, in the first embodiment, light with a wavelength 660 nm is incident with a light beam diameter φ2 that is larger than the incident light beam diameter φ1 with a wavelength of 407 nm. FIG. 11A shows the relationship between the effective diameter and the wavelength of NA 0.65 in an objective lens having the characteristics described in (Table 2) described below. Here, for simplicity, the optical system is an infinite system.
[0061]
From FIG. 11A, it can be seen that the luminous flux diameter φ2 needs to be about 4.02 mm at the time of recording and reproduction of a DVD-based optical recording medium using a wavelength of 660 nm. In a finite system configuration, particularly a divergent system, a larger beam diameter is required. In another example of the first embodiment, φ2 is about 4.05 nm.
[0062]
The relationship between the luminous flux diameters φ1 and φ2 also differs depending on the glass type of the objective lens. FIG. 11B is an objective lens having the same φ1, focal length, and numerical aperture as the objective lens of FIG. 11A, and φ2 / φ1 when the glass type is changed, and the refractive index at the d-line of the glass type used. This shows the relationship of nd, and an appropriate φ2 may be selected according to the glass type of the objective lens.
[0063]
On the other hand, the optimum NA for recording and reproducing information on and from a CD optical recording medium is about 0.50. When the optimum effective diameter φ3 is estimated by the same method as in FIG. It can be seen that the distance should be about 2 mm.
[0064]
An aperture limiting element is used as a means for switching the light beam diameter in accordance with the lighting light source as described above. The aperture limiting element may be any element that switches the beam diameter using any one of the optical characteristics of reflection, diffraction, and absorption according to the wavelength band or the polarization direction.
[0065]
As the aperture limiting element of the first embodiment, means for switching the beam diameter by reflection as shown in FIG. 12 may be used according to the wavelength of the beam emitted from the light source. Specifically, a dielectric optical multilayer film having wavelength selectivity is used. The light transmission characteristic of the

Further, as another aperture limiting element in the first embodiment, a means for switching the beam diameter by diffraction, such as the aperture limiting element shown in FIG. 12, according to the wavelength of the light beam emitted from the light source may be used. Specifically, a diffraction grating having wavelength selectivity may be formed. The light transmission characteristic of the
[0067]
Further, as another aperture limiting element in the first embodiment, a means for switching the beam diameter by absorption, such as the
[0068]
So far, the aperture limiting element that switches the beam diameter according to the wavelength has been described. However, the first embodiment is not limited to this, and a polarization characteristic may be used. For example, the light sources may be arranged so that the polarization directions of the light having the wavelengths of 660 nm and 780 nm are orthogonal to each other, and the aperture may be switched according to the orthogonal polarization directions.
[0069]
In the first embodiment, light having a wavelength of 407 nm can be converted from linearly polarized light to circularly polarized light, or circularly polarized light to linearly polarized light, and light having wavelengths of 660 nm and 780 nm can be converted from linearly polarized light to circularly polarized light or elliptically polarized light, or the like. A wave plate capable of performing reverse conversion is provided.
[0070]
As a configuration of this wavelength plate, a configuration of a so-called quarter-wave plate that can convert both light having a wavelength of 407 nm, light having a wavelength of 660 nm, and light having a wavelength of 780 nm from linearly polarized light to circularly polarized light or from circularly polarized light to linearly polarized light is as follows. At a certain thickness t, a wavelength plate made of a crystal in which the phase difference between the ordinary ray (refractive index no) and the extraordinary ray (refractive index ne) becomes 1/4 of the wavelength of 407 nm, 660 nm and 780 nm may be adopted. . That is, any crystal that satisfies the following (Equation 5), (Equation 6), and (Equation 7) may be used.
[0071]
(Equation 5)
Δn1 × t = {(2p + 1) / 4} × 407 (p = 0, 1,...)
Δn1; for light from a light source having a wavelength of 407 nm (no-ne)
[0072]
(Equation 6)
Δn2 × t = {(2q + 1) / 4} × 660 (q = 0, 1,...)
Δn2; for light from a light source having a wavelength of 660 nm (no-ne)
[0073]
(Equation 7)
Δn3 × t = {(2r + 1) / 4} × 780 (r = 0, 1,...)
Δn3; for light from a light source having a wavelength of 780 nm (no-ne)
Similarly, the configuration of a wave plate that converts both light having a wavelength of 407 nm and light having a wavelength of 660 nm from linearly polarized light to circularly polarized light, or from circularly polarized light to linearly polarized light, and converting light having a wavelength of 780 nm to elliptically polarized light is represented by (numerical expression). 5), (Equation 6) should be satisfied.
[0074]
Further, the configuration of the wave plate that converts light having a wavelength of 407 nm from linearly polarized light to circularly polarized light or circularly polarized light to linearly polarized light, and converts light having wavelengths of 660 nm and 780 nm to elliptically polarized light is as follows: Should be satisfied.
[0075]
When non-polarized holograms are used as the holograms 201b and 301b arranged in the DVD or CD optical path, the optical path between the forward path and the return path cannot be sufficiently separated, and the optical path from the optical recording medium cannot be sufficiently determined. About 30% of the returned light returns to the light source. Generally, such return light destabilizes the oscillation state of the semiconductor laser as a noise component. However, in the first embodiment, by arranging the wave plate having the above-described characteristics, for example, the polarization direction of the light emitted from the DVD hologram unit 201 in FIG. Can be made orthogonal. As described above, by making the polarization directions of the forward light and the backward light orthogonal to each other, it is possible to prevent the generation of noise due to the return light to the semiconductor laser 201a. The same applies to the CD system.
[0076]
Further, by disposing a wavelength plate having such characteristics, for example, for the blue optical recording medium of FIG. 1, a polarization separation optical system in which the polarization beam splitter 103 and the
[0077]
The wavelength plate is not limited to a crystal satisfying the conditions of (Equation 5) to (Equation 7). For example, a configuration in which phase difference elements of organic materials are stacked and arranged may be sandwiched between glass plates. Alternatively, an electro-optical element such as a liquid crystal element may be used.

A specific numerical configuration and optical characteristics according to the first embodiment will be described. First, with respect to the objective lens of the blue optical system, the optical performance at a wavelength of 407 nm will be described using FIG. 15 and (Table 2). Since the

As in (Table 2), "EPD: entrance pupil diameter" represents the aperture diameter of the aperture switching element (3.9 mm), and "WL: wavelength" represents the used wavelength (400 nm).
[0090]
In another example of the first embodiment, since the phase correction element has no effect at 400 nm, the same wavefront performance as that of FIG. 5 can be realized. The RMS value of the wavefront aberration at this time is 0.002λrms. 0.030λrms required for use is sufficiently satisfied. Good spots are formed.

Actually, as shown in the configuration diagram of the optical pickup in FIG. 1, the optical path is shortened by inserting the coupling lens 302 in the optical path between the light source and the objective lens. FIG. 19A is a diagram illustrating spherical aberration of a finite incident wave at a wavelength of 660 nm without a phase correction element. The RMS value of the spherical aberration of the finite incident wave at a wavelength of 660 nm is 0.1092λrms. Therefore, the wavefront of the spherical aberration can be suppressed by using the phase correction element.
[0100]
A specific configuration of the phase correction element will be described. The pattern of the phase correction element is formed such that the height of the adjacent steps is an integral multiple of a predetermined unit height: h. Assuming that the height is h, the refractive index is n, and the wavelength of the incident light is λ, the phase difference δ (λ) of the light passing through the portion with and without the phase plate pattern is given by the condition of Expression (10). .

As described in (Table 7), an optimum wavefront can be obtained by a configuration in which the object distance is 50.15 mm. The RMS value of the spherical aberration at this time is 0.006λrms. 0.030λrms required for use is sufficiently satisfied, and a good spot can be formed.

As described in (Table 8), an optimal wavefront can be obtained with a configuration in which the object distance is 53 mm. As shown in the pickup configuration diagram of FIG. 1, the optical path is shortened by inserting the coupling lens 302 into the optical path between the light source and the objective lens.
[0110]
At this wavelength of 780 nm, the RMS value of the spherical aberration when entering a finite system without a phase correction element is 0.006λrms. 0.030λrms required for use is sufficiently satisfied, and a good spot can be formed. Also, when a phase correction element is introduced in this configuration, there is no wavefront deterioration of spherical aberration, and a good spot can be formed. This is because the pattern area of the phase correction element is formed outside the light flux diameter of the CD system.

As described above, when this phase correction element 105b is not used, when the light emitted from the objective lens 108 having a wavelength of 660 nm passes through the light irradiation side substrate having a thickness of 0.6 mm, spherical aberration remains. FIG. 3 is a characteristic diagram of spherical aberration at that time. In the second embodiment, a stepwise phase correction element 105b is used as means for suppressing the spherical aberration. Further, the numerical configuration at this wavelength of 660 nm is shown in (Table 9).

FIG. 25 is a cross-sectional view of the phase correction element 105b. The phase correction element 105b has a concentric interference fringe pattern formed on a glass substrate. The height of adjacent steps of the phase plate pattern is formed by an integral multiple of a predetermined unit height: hi. Assuming that the height is h, the refractive index is n, and the wavelength of the incident light is λ, the phase difference δ (λ) of the light passing through the portion with and without the phase plate pattern is the
[0123]
As described in the first embodiment, if the phase correction element according to the second embodiment is manufactured in the glass type range shown in FIG. 7, the light having a wavelength of 407 nm and a wavelength of 780 nm is generated when passing through the

FIG. 18B is a characteristic diagram showing spherical aberration when the phase correction element 105b shown in FIG. 25 is used. The horizontal axis shows the height from the optical axis, and the vertical axis shows the spherical aberration. The RMS value of the spherical aberration is 0.027λrms or less, and it is possible to obtain good recording and reproduction signal characteristics. As in the case of the first embodiment, good wavefront characteristics are secured even at a wavelength of 407 nm and a wavelength of 780, as shown in FIGS. 16 (b) and 21 (b).

FIG. 28 is a diagram showing a schematic configuration of an optical pickup according to Embodiment 3 of the present invention. As in the first and second embodiments, this optical pickup is composed of a “blue (large capacity) optical recording medium having a working wavelength of 407 nm, NA of 0.65 and a light irradiation side substrate of 0.6 mm” and a working wavelength of 660 nm, NA0. 65, a DVD optical recording medium having a light irradiation side substrate thickness of 0.6 mm "and a CD optical recording medium having a working wavelength of 780 nm, NA of 0.50 and a light irradiation side substrate thickness of 1.2 mm. It is an optical pickup that can be erased.
[0127]
The difference between the optical pickups of the first and second embodiments is that the

FIG. 29A is a diagram showing a schematic configuration of another optical pickup according to the third embodiment. As in the first, second, and third embodiments, this optical pickup includes a “large-capacity optical recording medium having a working wavelength of 407 nm and NA of 0.65 and a light-irradiation-side substrate thickness of 0.6 mm” and a working wavelength of 660 nm and NA of 0.65. Both DVD-based optical recording medium having a light-irradiation-side substrate thickness of 0.6 mm and CD-system optical recording medium having a working wavelength of 780 nm, NA of 0.50 and a light-irradiation-side substrate thickness of 1.2 mm can be recorded, reproduced, or erased together. Optical pickup.
[0129]
The difference from the optical pickups of the first, second and third embodiments is that the light sources of DVD / CD (semiconductor lasers 201a and 301a), light receiving elements 201c and 301c, and optical path separating means (hologram 501b) are integrated into a single package. This is the point where the hologram unit 501 is used. This makes it possible to realize a three-wavelength optical system with a small optical pickup.
[0130]
As the hologram 501b, a configuration having a layer having a hologram surface for DVD and a layer having a hologram surface for CD as shown in FIG. 29B may be used.

[0134]
Further, the fourth embodiment is an optical information processing apparatus that performs multi-level recording with an information recording density multiplication degree: P1> 1.8 on an optical recording medium at a used wavelength λ: 407 nm and NA: 0.65. Is also good. Thus, for example, an optical information processing apparatus of 22 GB or more can be realized without using an objective lens with a high NA of 0.85. That is, the recording capacity of the optical recording medium is determined by the spot diameter. Compared with DVD-based optical recording media (4.7 GB), if the blue wavelength band is used, the spot diameter ratio (λ / NA) 2 , The capacity is increased to about 12 GB. By applying the multi-value recording under the above conditions, 22 GB equivalent can be obtained. As a result, it is possible to expand a margin accompanying fluctuations and the like. For example, since the depth of focus of the objective lens becomes stricter in proportion to the square of NA, the margin of the lens of NA 0.65 can be expanded 1.7 times as compared with the objective lens of NA 0.85.
[0135]
Further, in the present invention, as the optical recording medium, a recording information surface composed of a plurality of layers may be used. Needless to say, the capacity increases according to the number of layers. Further, in the present invention, spherical aberration generated due to the interlayer distance can also be corrected, and the optical recording medium may be an optical recording medium having a recording information surface on both front and back surfaces. The capacity can be doubled.
[0136]
In each of the embodiments described above, the wavelengths are limited to 407 nm, 660 nm, and 780 nm for simplicity. However, the present invention is applied to the following ranges of optical recording media specified as standards. It is possible.
[0137]
-Blue wavelength band: wavelength 397 nm to 417 nm
・ Red wavelength band: wavelength 650 nm to 670 nm
-Infrared wavelength band: wavelength 770 nm to 790 nm
Similarly, the numerical aperture: NA has been described as being limited to 0.65 and 0.50.
These too
・ NA of blue optical recording medium: 0.60 to 0.70 or 0.85
· NA of DVD-based optical recording medium: 0.60 to 0.65
· NA of CD optical recording medium: 0.45 to 0.50
Applicable to the range.
[0138]
【The invention's effect】
As described above, according to the present invention, there are provided three light sources (semiconductor lasers) having different wavelengths and a phase correction element for selecting a wavelength, and a light in a blue wavelength band for a blue optical recording medium. Using an objective lens that minimizes the spherical aberration wavefront, the phase is the deadband in the blue wavelength band and the infrared wavelength band, and the wavefront of the spherical aberration is minimum with respect to the DVD-based optical recording medium with light in the red wavelength band. The correction element is arranged in front of the objective lens, and the optical path of the CD system is set to be finite system incidence so that the wavefront of the spherical aberration is minimized with respect to the CD optical recording medium with light in the infrared wavelength band. This makes it possible to sufficiently narrow the spot for each of the blue optical recording medium, the DVD optical recording medium, and the CD optical recording medium, and achieves a high S / N ratio for any of the three generation optical recording media. Recording and playing back signals with An effect that can be.
