Abstract
Description
【0001】

TECHNICAL FIELD OF THE INVENTION
The present invention relates to a communication device that converts image data into electronic mail and transmits the image data, and more particularly to a communication device that transmits image data obtained by reading a plurality of document images as electronic mail via a computer network such as the Internet.
[0002]
[Prior art]
2. Description of the Related Art In recent years, computer communication networks for distributing e-mail via the Internet, which is a network formed by connecting local computer communication networks with communication lines, have become widespread. The computer communication network has an advantage that the error correction capability is excellent and the communication cost is low even at a long distance.
[0003]
It can be connected to the Internet and has a function of converting image data of a document normally transmitted / received by facsimile communication into an e-mail format. A facsimile machine (Internet facsimile machine) capable of transmitting and receiving electronic mail has been developed. The Internet facsimile apparatus is connected to the Internet to perform image data communication using e-mail, and is connected to a public network to perform facsimile-type image data communication with the facsimile apparatus via the public network. And
When the content to be communicated is only text information, the size of the e-mail does not matter, but information other than text, such as a photograph, is much larger than text information. Therefore, in such an Internet facsimile apparatus, the size of one e-mail from a mail server is generally limited, and does not exceed a size limit value (upper limit) set in the Internet facsimile apparatus. As described above, the read image data is processed and transmitted in page units and transmitted (for example, see

[Problems to be solved by the invention]
However, in the conventional method, the image data is simply divided evenly in page units, and there is a problem that the transmission efficiency is low. In addition, there is also a problem that there is only one way to divide the page, and the user's demand is not satisfied.
[0007]
The present invention has been made in view of such circumstances, and by dividing image data in units of pages so that the number of divisions is as small as possible, it is possible to increase transmission efficiency without exceeding the upper limit of the size of e-mail. It is an object of the present invention to provide a communication device that can perform the communication.
[0008]
Another object of the present invention is to provide a communication device that can satisfy a user's request by being able to select whether to give priority to the order of read document images or to give priority to reducing the number of divisions.
[0009]
Still another object of the present invention is to provide a communication device that can satisfy a user's request by arbitrarily setting a transmission order of a plurality of sets of e-mails obtained by dividing image data in page units.

Next, details of the operation in the second mode will be described. FIG. 4 is a flowchart showing the procedure of the processing operation, that is, the subroutine of S10 in FIG.
[0035]
First, the symbols used in the description will be described. The upper limit value (upper limit size) of the size of the e-mail to be transmitted is L, the total number of pages of the e-mail to be transmitted is N, the arbitrary page of the e-mail to be transmitted is P (1 ≦ P ≦ N), and the arbitrary page P Is SP . The total number B of combinations for selecting one or a plurality of pages from all pages is obtained by the following equation (1).
[0036]
(Equation 1)
[0037]
Also, an arbitrary combination is U Q (1 ≦ Q ≦ B), the number of pages of the arbitrary combination U Q is R Q , the size of the arbitrary combination U Q is T Q , the combination finalization flag is F P , and the transmission finalization flag is Let G Q. The relationship between such symbols is shown in Tables 1 and 2 below.
[0038]
[Table 1]
[0039]
[Table 2]
[0040]
First, the number of pages RQ and the size T Q are stored for all B combinations U Q (1 ≦ Q ≦ B) (step S31). From among all the combinations U Q of street B, the number of pages R Q is the size T Q a most searching the nearest combination U C1 without exceeding the upper limit size L of the outgoing mail (step S32). While setting the combination determination flag F P of pages belonging to the combination U C1 (step S33), and sets the transmission confirmation flag G Q combinations U C1 (step S34). Then, it is determined whether or not the combination determination flag FP is set for all pages (step S35).
[0041]
If a page combination determination flag F P is not set exists (S35: NO), the combined determination flag from the combinations U Q where F P and transmission confirmation flag G Q is not set, the number of pages R Q is size T Q a most searches for the nearest combination U CQ without exceeding the upper limit size L of the outgoing mail (step S36). While setting the combination determination flag F P of pages belonging to the combination U CQ (step S37), after setting the transmission confirmation flag G Q combinations U CQ (step S38), the operation returns to S35.
[0042]
If the combination confirmation flag FP is set for all pages (S35: YES), the pages belonging to the combination for which the transmission confirmation flag GQ is set are transmitted as one e-mail (step S39).
[0043]
Next, a specific example of the above-described division in the second mode will be described. It is assumed that the upper limit size (L) of outgoing mail is 700 Kbytes, the total number of pages (N) of outgoing mail is 4 pages, and the size of each page is as shown in Table 3 below.
[0044]
[Table 3]
[0045]
The total number of combinations of a page (B) of 4 C 4 + 4 C 3 + 4
[0046]
[Table 4]
[0047]
As can be seen from the results in Table 4, the transmission confirmation flag is set for the combination U 7 (1, 3), the combination U 13 (2), and the combination U 15 (4). Is divided into In addition, under the same conditions, when division is performed in the first mode in which the reading order of the document is prioritized, the division is performed into four mails.
[0048]
Note that the order in which the mails split on the sending side arrive at the receiving side may fluctuate depending on the transit status inside the network on the way, but the order is determined by the sending time information attached to the mail from the sending side. Side. Such a determination function may be provided on the receiving side.
[0049]
As described above, according to the present invention, the number of divisions is as small as possible when the image data is divided into pages and converted into an electronic mail so as not to exceed the upper limit of the size of the electronic mail. Since the division processing is performed on a page-by-page basis, the transmission efficiency can be improved without exceeding the upper limit value of the e-mail size.
[0050]
Further, according to the present invention, either the first mode in which priority is given to the order of read original images or the second mode in which priority is given to reducing the number of divisions can be selected. It can be adapted to the type of the original image.
[0051]
Further, according to the present invention, since the transmission order of a plurality of sets of e-mails obtained by dividing image data in page units can be set arbitrarily, the transmission order can be matched to the user's request or the type of document image. .
