【0047】
Vx=Vref−Vdr
ΔV=Vh−Vx=Vdr×(D/2n)
Vx={Vref−Vh×(2n/D)}/{1−(2n/D))
となる。
【0048】

TECHNICAL FIELD OF THE INVENTION
The present invention relates to a remaining battery capacity detection method for a secondary battery and a portable terminal device using the same.
[0002]
[Prior art]
In recent years, portable terminal devices such as portable telephones, portable information terminals, and notebook personal computers have become widespread. In these portable terminal devices, a secondary battery which is a rechargeable battery such as a lithium ion battery is an essential component.
[0003]
Conventionally, the current voltage level of a secondary battery mounted on a portable terminal device is converted into a digital value, which is converted into a continuous standby time, a continuous talk time, and a packet communication volume in an arithmetic unit, and these are further converted into three levels. There is known a technique of converting the level into a level and displaying the converted level (see Patent Document 1).
[0004]
Further, the full charge voltage of the secondary battery varies depending on the type of battery, and the relationship between each voltage level and the remaining battery level also varies. Moreover, the graph showing the relationship between the voltage level and the remaining battery level is generally not linear.
[0005]
There is also known a technique for estimating a charging completion time required until a secondary battery is fully charged (see Patent Document 2).

[Problems to be solved by the invention]
In order to convert the current voltage level of the secondary battery to a digital value, an analog-to-digital (A / D) converter that converts an analog voltage to a corresponding digital value is generally used. The A / D converter generally has a measurable input voltage range (dynamic range) from a ground level (0 V) to a predetermined reference voltage (Vref).
[0008]
On the other hand, in a secondary battery such as a lithium ion battery, the full charge voltage is +4.25 V, the discharge end voltage is +3.45 V, and the difference is 0.8 V. Even if the dynamic range of the A / D converter is 4.25 V, the range (0.8 V) used for actual measurement is less than 20% of the full range. Therefore, a high-resolution A / D converter is required in order to finely measure the voltage level of the battery (for example, in units of several tens of minutes to one hour in standby time conversion) within the range actually used. . This causes an increase in equipment cost.
[0009]
Considering the non-linearity of the relationship between the output voltage of the secondary battery and the remaining battery capacity, further higher resolution is required. The same applies to the case where the same remaining battery capacity detection device wants to handle secondary batteries having different full charge voltages. In the latter case, it is possible to use a plurality of secondary batteries of the same model of the portable terminal device having different full charge voltages, or to use the same remaining battery detection circuit for different models. Conceivable.
[0010]
The present invention has been made in such a background, and an object thereof is to provide an A / D converter having a relatively low resolution when measuring the output voltage of a secondary battery for detecting the remaining battery capacity of the secondary battery. It is an object of the present invention to provide a method for detecting the remaining battery capacity of a secondary battery, which can perform highly accurate detection even when using the method, and a portable terminal device using the same.
[0011]
[Means for Solving the Problems]
A first remaining battery capacity detection method according to the present invention is a remaining battery capacity detection method for detecting a remaining battery capacity of a secondary battery, wherein a predetermined value of the secondary battery is provided to a GND terminal of an A / D converter. Applying a discharge end voltage VL and applying an output voltage Vx of the secondary battery to an analog voltage input terminal; and VL to Vx with respect to a range from the discharge end voltage VL to a reference voltage Vref of the A / D converter. Obtaining from the A / D converter a digital output value D as a ratio of the voltage ΔV to the digital output value according to the relationship between the digital output value and the remaining battery capacity previously determined for the secondary battery. Determining a remaining battery capacity corresponding to D. In this method, the range from the discharge end voltage VL to the reference voltage Vref of the A / D converter is set as a dynamic range, and the ratio of the voltage ΔV from VL to Vx within this range is obtained as an n-bit digital output value D. Therefore, if the number of bits of the A / D converter is n, a resolution of n bits can be obtained in a narrow range from VL to Vref.
[0012]
A second remaining battery capacity detection method according to the present invention is a remaining battery capacity detection method for detecting a remaining battery capacity of a secondary battery, wherein the output voltage Vx of the secondary battery is connected to a GND terminal of the A / D converter. And applying a predetermined full charge voltage Vh of the secondary battery to the analog voltage input terminal; and Vx to Vh for a range from the output voltage Vx to the reference voltage Vref of the A / D converter. Obtaining from the A / D converter a digital output value D as a ratio of the voltage ΔV to the digital output value according to the relationship between the digital output value and the remaining battery capacity previously determined for the secondary battery. Determining a remaining battery capacity corresponding to D. In this case, the range from the output voltage Vx of the secondary battery to the reference voltage Vref of the A / D converter is defined as a dynamic range, and the ratio of the voltage ΔV from Vx to Vh within this range is defined as an n-bit digital output value D. Get as. Thus, assuming that the number of bits of the A / D converter is n, a resolution of n bits can be obtained in a narrow range from Vx to Vref.
[0013]
In any of the above methods, a step of obtaining the value of the output voltage Vx from the digital output value D may be further provided, and the remaining battery capacity may be obtained based on the output voltage Vx.
[0014]

Means for storing a relationship between the digital output value D as a ratio of the voltage ΔV up to Vx and the remaining battery capacity, and means for obtaining a remaining battery capacity corresponding to the digital output value D according to the relationship. Features.
[0015]

An A / D converter that receives the full charge voltage Vh at a voltage input terminal, and Vx to Vh with respect to a range from an output voltage Vx to a reference voltage Vref of the A / D converter, which is obtained in advance for the secondary battery. Means for storing the relationship between the digital output value D as the ratio of the voltage ΔV and the remaining battery capacity, and means for calculating the remaining battery capacity corresponding to the digital output value D according to this relationship. I do.
[0017]
This portable terminal device is a device corresponding to the second remaining battery capacity detection method, and its operation is the same as the method.
[0018]
A third portable terminal device incorporating a secondary battery according to the present invention includes means for generating a predetermined discharge end voltage VL of the secondary battery, and means for generating a predetermined full charge voltage Vh of the secondary battery. An A / D converter for converting an analog voltage to a digital output value D, and applying a predetermined discharge end voltage VL of the secondary battery to a GND terminal of the A / D converter and an analog voltage input terminal. A first connection state in which the output voltage Vx of the secondary battery is applied, an output voltage Vx of the secondary battery applied to a GND terminal of the A / D converter, and the secondary battery applied to an analog voltage input terminal. Switching means for applying a predetermined full charge voltage Vh, and VL corresponding to a range from the end-of-discharge voltage VL to the reference voltage Vref of the A / D converter, which is obtained in advance for the secondary battery. First storage means for storing a relationship between a digital output value D as a ratio of a voltage ΔV up to Vx and a remaining battery capacity, and the A / D converter based on an output voltage Vx obtained in advance for the secondary battery Second storage means for storing the relationship between the digital output value D as the ratio of the voltage ΔV from Vx to Vh to the range up to the reference voltage Vref and the remaining battery capacity, and the first or second connection state Means for calculating a remaining battery capacity corresponding to the digital output value D in accordance with the relationship stored in the first or second storage means.
[0019]

[0021]
Any of the devices may include means for determining the battery type of the secondary battery, and means for switching the value of the full charge voltage Vh according to the determined battery type. This makes it possible to obtain the digital output value D in a dynamic range suitable for each type of battery.

Means for checking the validity of the secondary battery may be further provided. This is to check the validity of the secondary battery by checking whether the output voltage Vx suitable for the type is obtained after the battery type of the secondary battery is determined.
[0023]
In any of the apparatuses, the apparatus may further include means for detecting a temperature around the secondary battery, and means for correcting the remaining battery capacity according to the detected temperature. Since the remaining battery capacity of the secondary battery is fluctuated by a change in temperature, a more accurate remaining battery capacity can be obtained by correcting the remaining battery capacity according to the detected temperature.
[0024]

FIG. 6 is a graph showing an example of the relationship between the output voltage Vx and the remaining battery capacity Bc of one type of secondary battery, for example, a lithium ion battery. As described above, if the full charge voltage is + 4.25V and the discharge end voltage is + 3.45V, the difference is 0.8V. Within this differential voltage range, relative voltage measurement or absolute voltage measurement is performed to effectively use the dynamic range of the A /

To obtain the same accuracy in the conventional absolute voltage measurement, a dynamic range of about 5.3 (= 4.25 / 0.8) times is required (ie, the number of bits of the A / D converter is increased by at least 3 bits). Each data table described above can be provided for each required battery type. If the user can selectively use a plurality of battery types in the same portable terminal, a table corresponding to each battery type is prepared.

The corrected remaining battery capacity thus obtained may be reported to the user itself, but it is desirable to convert the remaining battery capacity into a usable time that is easy for the user to report. At this time, the available time may vary depending on the usage status of the mobile terminal. For example, in the case where the telephone is in a standby state and in the telephone call state, the latter has a shorter usable time. Other usage conditions vary depending on the functions of the mobile terminal, but may include Web use, music reproduction, and the like.
