Description
【0001】

By adopting such a configuration, first, the data transfer source server that intends to transfer the data to be backed up to another server to perform the backup is backed up to a server that can be a data transfer destination which is another server on the network. Inquires about whether Then, the data transfer destination server that has received the inquiry determines whether or not backup processing is possible in consideration of processing scheduled on the server in the future. For example, if there is no scheduled processing in the future, or if it is determined that the load is light and the backup processing can be performed, a response to permit the backup is sent. Perform for the data transfer source server. Then, the data to be backed up is transferred from the data transfer source server to the data transfer destination server via the network, and the backup process is executed.
[0015]
Therefore, whether or not backup processing is possible is determined between the computers connected via the network, and then the backup processing is executed. Therefore, even if a network failure or the like occurs between the computers that manage them, , A backup process can be performed. In addition, the possibility of backup processing is determined in consideration of future processing of the data transfer destination server, so that problems such as excessive backup time due to insufficient processing capacity during backup processing can be foreseen and avoided in advance. And the reliability of the backup process can be improved.
[0016]
Further, the backup availability response function of the data transfer destination server determines whether the backup process is completed within a predetermined time allowed for the backup, and sends a backup availability response to the data transfer source server. It is desirable to have such a configuration. With this, in consideration of future processing of the data transfer destination server, it is determined in advance whether or not the backup processing is completed within the set time, and if it is determined that the backup processing is completed within the time, the backup processing is performed. Is performed, the excess of the backup processing time can be effectively suppressed, and the reliability of the backup processing can be improved.
[0017]
Further, it is desirable that the job management data include data relating to processing executed on a daily basis. This allows the data transfer destination server to judge whether backup is possible or not, taking into account the daily processing that is always performed, so that it is possible to improve the reliability of the judgment and to more effectively prevent failures such as excess backup processing time. Can be suppressed.
[0018]
Further, the job management data includes resource status data relating to the use status of each device in the data transfer destination server, which is used in a process scheduled in the future, for example, the usage rate of the operation device of the data transfer destination server. It is desirable to include data related to data and input / output load on the storage device of the data transfer destination server, and data related to the network usage rate of the data transfer destination server. This allows the data transfer destination server to consider the use of resources indispensable for backup processing, such as information on the CPU usage rate, network usage rate, and input / output load on storage devices, which are expected in future processing. Therefore, the reliability of the determination as to whether or not backup is possible is further improved.
[0019]
In addition, the data transfer destination server stores resource status data at the time of backup relating to the use status of each device in the server when executing only the backup processing. The configuration may be such that whether to permit backup is determined based on the resource status data and the backup resource status data.
[0020]
This allows the data transfer destination server to take into account data such as the usage rate of resources used for processing scheduled in advance and data used for backup processing, such as the usage rate of resources. It is possible to more reliably and easily determine whether or not the backup process can be performed while performing the performed process.
[0021]
In addition, the network includes a management server that manages the backup status of the data transfer source server and the data transfer destination server, and the management server stores backup management data that manages backup processing of the data transfer source server, and performs data transfer. The source server acquires the backup management data from the management server, executes the backup process based on the data, and manages a predetermined self backup status corresponding to the backup management data in the data transfer source server. Storing the self-backup management data, and activating the backup availability inquiry function and the backup execution function to execute the backup processing based on the self-backup management data when the backup management data cannot be obtained from the management server; It may be configured to say.
[0022]
By doing so, usually, the data transfer source server performs the backup process based on the backup management data from the management server, thereby facilitating the management and operation of the data backup system by the system administrator. Since the data transfer source server stores its own backup management data, when the backup management data cannot be obtained from the management server, the data transfer source server stores the backup management data based on the self backup management data. To make a backup. Therefore, even when a network failure or the like occurs between the data transfer source server and the management server, the backup process can be continuously performed, and the reliability of data can be improved.
[0023]
Further, a configuration may be adopted in which a plurality of data transfer destination servers are connected to the network, and the data transfer source server activates the backup availability inquiry function for the plurality of data transfer destination servers. As a result, the data transfer source server can select a backup destination from a plurality of data transfer destination servers, suppress that a backup destination cannot be found and cannot execute a backup, and improve the reliability of backup processing. it can.
[0024]
Further, according to the present invention, a data backup system comprising: a data transfer source server storing backup target data; and a data transfer destination server storing backup target data transferred from the data transfer source server via a network. In the above, the data transfer source server inquires of the data transfer destination server whether or not the data to be backed up can be accepted, and a data transfer destination server in response to a response from the data transfer destination server to this inquiry A backup execution function of transferring data to be backed up to the server and executing a data backup process, wherein the data transfer destination server is data relating to a routinely executed process scheduled in the server in the future, and Each device in the server In addition to storing resource status data regarding the usage status and backup resource status data regarding the usage status of each device in the server when the data transfer destination server executes only the backup process, an inquiry from the data transfer source server is performed. A backup availability response function that determines whether or not to allow backup based on job management data and responds to the backup availability response function, based on the resource status data and the backup resource status data, In consideration of the usage status of each device of the data transfer destination data, it is determined whether or not the backup process is completed within a predetermined time allowed for the backup, and a response to the data transfer source server as to whether the backup is possible is made. Is also adopted. Even in this case, the operation is performed in the same manner as described above, and in particular, it is possible to foresee in advance and avoid a failure such as an excessive backup time due to a shortage of processing capacity during backup.
[0025]
Further, according to the present invention, in the data backup method, the data transfer source server storing the backup target data transfers and stores the backup target data from the server to the data transfer destination server via the network. Inquires whether the data to be backed up can be accepted by the data transfer destination server, and determines whether the data transfer destination server permits the backup in response to the inquiry from the data transfer source server. And a backup execution step of performing a data backup process by transferring data to be backed up to the data transfer destination server in response to the response from the data transfer destination server, and The backup availability response process Performs determination of backup availability based on job management data is data relating to the process being upcoming at the server stored in the data transfer destination server, also provides a data backup method of. Even in this case, the same operation and effect as described above can be exhibited, and the above-described object can be achieved.

The “backup end time” is set with two parameters, one is the scheduled backup end time (+ 1h00m), and the other is the backup end time (+ 3h00m). In FIG. 3, “scheduled backup end time”, which is a parameter (+ 1h00m) shown above, indicates a time required for backup in a state where resources of a data transfer destination server such as a CPU and a network can be sufficiently used. "1 hour" is set. The “backup end time”, which is a parameter (+ 3h00m) shown later, indicates the time from the start time to the end of the backup, for example, “3 hours” is set. Although “time” is actually substituted as a parameter as described above, in particular, regarding “backup end time”, the “data transfer destination server, which is the inquiry destination from the data transfer source server, It is added to the "time" and used as the upper limit "time" at which the backup must be completed. [0051]
For example, the CPU usage rate is obtained by a “sar” command for a UNIX machine. Since the sar command is known, a detailed description thereof will be omitted, but a specific example is shown below. For example, FIG. 4A shows an output result in a case where a command “sar 35” is input and measurement is performed three times at 5-second intervals. “% Usr” shown in this figure indicates the CPU usage rate of the application used by the user, and “% sys” indicates the CPU usage rate of the operating system. “% Wio” indicates the CPU usage rate by I / O, and “% idle” indicates the unused rate. These are combined and expressed as “Average” as an average value. By the way, in the example shown in FIG. 4A, since the job is not working, the usage rate is almost 0%, and the average unused rate is 99%.
[0052]
The network usage rate is measured using a “netstat” command in a UNIX machine. Further, DISK I / O is measured by the "-d" option of the "sar" command described above, and represents the load in percentage. In the case of a Windows machine (Windows: registered trademark), the CPU utilization, network utilization, and DISK I / O are measured using a performance monitor. However, the present invention is not limited to the usage rate and load of each of the resources and the measurement as described above. Further, the resource status data stored as the periodic

Subsequently, at the time of inquiring whether backup is possible or not, it is checked whether a network failure has occurred with the data transfer destination server 20 (step S13). If a network failure occurs (YES in step S13) or if the inquiry cannot be made for other reasons, an inquiry is made to the next backup destination candidate server (YES in step S19, step S21). Return to step S12). This will be described later.

If there is no trouble in the communication and the data
[0065]
Then, when a response indicating whether or not backup is possible is received from the data transfer destination server 20 (Yes in step S14), it is determined from the content of the response data whether or not backup is possible (step S15). If the notification indicates that the backup is possible (YES at step S15), the backup process is executed by the backup execution function (step S16, backup execution step). That is, the backup target data 11b is transferred to the data
[0066]
On the other hand, when the notification that the backup is impossible is received from the data transfer destination server 20 (No in Step S15), and when the backup process is not successful (No in Step S17), the process proceeds to Step S19. Proceed to check if there is another backup destination server. In this step S19, it is checked whether or not there is a backup destination server of the next value (for example, “2”) with respect to the current value of “i” (for example, “1”) in the self-backup management data. If there is a server (Yes at step S19), 1 is added to the value of “i” (step S21), and whether or not the server having the new value of “i” (server of the backup destination 2) can be backed up or not is determined. (Step S12). In this way, the above process is repeated until a server that can be backed up is found and the backup process is completed.

And the backup resource status data such as the CPU usage rate during the backup processing per unit time (step S44). Then, the value of each usage rate is added, and it is checked whether or not the sum is less than 100% (step S45). For example, it is determined whether or not the sum of the average CPU usage rate in a regular job for 5 seconds from the backup start time and the CPU usage rate used for backup processing per 5 seconds does not exceed 100%. Similarly, the network usage rate is checked, and the DISK I / O is also checked. If all the values are less than 100% (Yes in step S45), 5 seconds are added as the backup available time (step S46). On the other hand, if any of them exceeds 100% (No in step S45), normal backup processing cannot be realized during that time, and there is no addition to the backup available time.
[0073]
Then, the above processing (steps S44 to S47) is checked for the next 5 seconds, and further checked for the next 5 seconds. Then, the process is repeated until the above-mentioned backup end time (for example, 12:00). In this manner, from the backup start time to the end time, how long each device (resource) such as the CPU of the data

On the other hand, if the calculated backup available time is shorter than the preset backup end scheduled time (negative determination in step S48), it is determined that backup is not possible (step S50). Then, the
[0076]
Here, a specific example of determination as to whether or not backup is possible will be described. In this example, similarly to the above, the backup start time is “9:00”, the scheduled backup time is “1 hour”, and the backup end time is “3 hours”, that is, the time at which the backup process must be ended. This means "12:00".

Then, first, it is assumed that an inquiry is made to the server at the

[0079]
In this way, in response to the inquiry about the availability of the backup by the data transfer source server, the availability of the backup is determined in consideration of the resources used in the job scheduled in the future at the data transfer destination server. Therefore, it is possible to foresee in advance and avoid a problem such as an excessive backup time due to a lack of processing capacity during the backup process, and to improve the reliability of the backup process.
[0080]
Here, in the above configuration, the case where the
[0081]
Further, the data backup system described above is not limited to the case where the number of backup servers shown in FIG. 1 is four. More than this number may be connected on the network, or conversely, it may be realized by at least two computers, a source and a destination. However, it is preferable that the backup system includes a certain number of servers. By doing so, even if there is a server that cannot be backed up in another server, it is possible to find a server that can be backed up from another server, and it is highly likely that backup processing can be realized. The reliability can be improved.
[0082]
Further, the determination as to whether or not backup is possible by the data transfer destination server is not limited to being performed as described above. For example, when there is no job scheduled by the data transfer destination server in the future, it may be determined that the backup is possible without performing the calculation as shown in FIG. Further, a configuration may be adopted in which it is determined that backup is possible when the average value during the backup time such as the CPU usage rate of the job is lower than a preset value (for example, 50%).
[0083]
<Second embodiment>
Next, a second embodiment of the present invention will be described with reference to FIGS. FIG. 9 is a diagram illustrating the data contents of the self-backup management data according to the present embodiment. FIG. 10 is a flowchart illustrating the operation of the system according to the present embodiment.
[0084]
(Constitution)
The data backup system according to the present embodiment has almost the same components as the system according to the first embodiment, but the data transfer destination server determines whether backup is possible or not in response to an inquiry from the data transfer source server. The method of processing to be performed is different. Accordingly, the configuration is different in the following points.
[0085]
First, as shown in FIG. 9, among the backup management data stored in the management server or the self-backup management data stored in the data transfer source data, the content of the “backup end time” is different. In this embodiment, only one parameter is set, which is a value corresponding to the backup end time described above. That is, only a value indicating that the backup must be completed at least by this time is set. In this example, a value of "3 hours" is set as the backup end time (+ 3h00m), which means that the backup process is completed within 3 hours from the backup start time. In the backup destination server (data transfer destination server), which is the inquiry destination, as described above, the backup start time is used as the "time" obtained by adding "3 hours".
[0086]
In this embodiment, the data contents of the backup resource master stored in the data transfer destination server are different. That is, the backup resource master calculation function provided in the CPU of the data transfer destination server for calculating and storing such a value is different. This function measures the CPU usage rate, network usage rate, and DISK I / O when only backup is performed instead of the above-described periodic job, and calculates the above values required for the backup processing per unit time. In addition to storing as a backup resource master, a capacity that can be backed up per unit time (backup capacity) is also stored. Data on the backup capacity per unit time is stored as backup-time resource status data in the backup resource master.
[0087]
Also, the judgment on whether the data transfer destination server can back up is different. For this reason, the backup availability response function calculates the backup available time and also calculates the backup available capacity within that time, and compares this value with the capacity of the backup target data to determine whether backup is available. is there. This function will be described in detail in the operation description.
[0088]
(motion)
The operation in the present embodiment is basically the same as the first embodiment shown in FIGS. 5 to 8, but operates as shown in FIG. 10 after step S47 in FIG.
[0089]
First, it is assumed that the operation is performed up to step S47 in FIG. 8 and the backup available time of the data transfer destination server is calculated. Then, within this backup available time, the backup available capacity is calculated by multiplying the backup capacity per unit time stored in the backup resource master (step S51). Then, this capacity is compared with the capacity of the data to be backed up (step S52), and if the available capacity for backup is equal to or larger than the capacity of the data to be backed up (YES in step S52), it is determined that the backup is permitted. (Step S53). Then, the data transfer server transmits a backup permission notification to the data transfer source server as a response to the backup inquiry (Yes in step S33 in FIG. 7, step S34). On the other hand, if the available backup capacity is smaller than the capacity of the data to be backed up (negative determination in step S52), it is determined that backup is impossible (step S54). Then, the data transfer server transmits a backup refusal notice to the data transfer source server as a response to the backup inquiry (negative determination in step S33 of FIG. 7, step S36).
[0090]
Even in this case, the backup processing can be realized as in the first embodiment.
[0091]
<Third embodiment>
Hereinafter, a third embodiment of the present invention will be described. The data backup system according to the present embodiment has substantially the same configuration as that of the first and second embodiments. However, the backup availability determination function of the data
[0092]
The job management data is, for example, print data (printer job) scheduled in the data
[0093]
When the backup availability response function receives an inquiry about the availability of the backup from the data transfer
[0094]
As described above, by taking into consideration all future processing schedules of the data
[0095]
By the way, the backup availability response function by the data transfer destination server can be used to determine whether backup is possible or not for daily jobs that are determined to be performed on a daily basis in advance and interrupts that need to be executed suddenly, such as printer jobs. The job may be performed in consideration of both the job and the job. Alternatively, only the daily job may be considered as shown in the first embodiment.
[0096]
【The invention's effect】
Since the present invention is configured and functions as described above, according to this, when a data transfer source server inquires of a server that can be a data transfer destination, which is another server on the network, whether or not backup is possible, an inquiry is received. The data transfer destination server determines whether or not backup processing is possible in consideration of processing scheduled in the future on the server, and if it determines that backup processing can be performed, the backup is performed. A response to the effect is made to the data transfer source server, and then the data to be backed up is transferred from the data transfer source server to the data transfer destination server via the network, and the backup process is executed. Whether it is possible or not is determined between each computer connected on the network. The backup process can be executed even if a network failure or the like occurs between these computers and the computer that manages them, and the availability of the backup process is determined in consideration of the process scheduled for the data transfer destination server in the future. Because it is judged, failures such as excessive backup time due to lack of processing capacity during backup processing can be foreseen and avoided in advance, and the reliability of backup processing can be improved, which is an unprecedented superiority Has the effect.
