活性炭やゼオライトに水和性もしくは水溶性をもたせた吸着剤を農薬残留のある農作物に散布もしくは塗布することで吸着剤が農作物に付着している微細な残留農薬成分を気孔内部に吸着し、農薬化合物の化学的作用を無効化する。

平成14年11月14日、「みかん」をトップジンM水和剤(チオファネートメチル50%、日本曹達株式会社製造)6gを水2リットルに希釈した溶液(濃度約0.15%)に5秒間つけてから取りだし1kgづつ2つに分け、平成14年11月19日、竹炭フロアブル剤(竹炭20重量%)を10倍に希釈した溶液を試液A(濃度約1.8%)とし、前述のチオファネートメチルにつけたみかんをそれぞれ、水に5秒間つけたものを検体1、試液Aに5秒間つけたものを検体2とする。

残留農薬の濃度分析は平成14年11月26日に株式会社住化分析センターに依頼した。平成14年12月12日、残留農薬分析結果によると、検体1のチオファネートメチル測定値1.33mg/kg、検体2のチオファネートメチル測定値0.64mg/kgであり、検体1に比べ検体2は残留農薬濃度が約52%減少した。なお分析・試験方法はHPLC法(蛍光)である。
