第1実施形態の巻芯1は、図1のA−A線について断面をみると、図2に示すように、最内層から紙テープ2を複数枚積層させて形成される芯体3と、芯体3上に巻きつけられ外周面に粘着剤が塗布された紙テープ4からなる層5と、層5上に巻きつけられた紙テープ4の粘着剤から剥離可能な内周面を有する紙テープ6からなる層7と、層7に巻きつけられた複合素材のテープ8からなる最外層9とを備えて構成されている。例えば、巻芯の形状としては、内径が76mm、厚みが5mm、長さが1500mmである。また、紙テープ2の例として0.5mmの板紙、紙テープ4の例として0.35mmの板紙、紙テープ6の例として0.35mmの板紙あるいは0.1mmのクラフト紙、複合素材のテープ8の例としては、熱硬化性樹脂または熱可塑性樹脂を含浸あるいは塗布した紙、紙と樹脂フィルム、金属箔などを積層した複合紙が挙げられる。
