Abstract
Description
【0001】

TECHNICAL FIELD OF THE INVENTION
The present invention relates to an ink that can be suitably used for ink-jet recording, in which an ink, particularly an ink is ejected from an orifice according to a recording signal to perform recording on a recording medium, an ink set using the ink, an ink cartridge, a recording unit, and an image recording apparatus And an image recording method.
[0002]
[Prior art]
Conventionally, inks having various compositions have been reported and proposed for use in ink jet recording. In particular, in recent years, in order to perform good recording on plain paper generally used in offices such as copy paper, report paper, notes, and stationery, various aspects such as ink composition and ink physical properties are required. Detailed research and development has been done.
[0003]
Also, in the ink jet recording method, various methods have been proposed, in which a charged droplet is continuously generated, a part of the droplet is used for recording, and a signal is supplied to a recording head having a piezoelectric element. A method of performing recording by discharging a recording liquid in accordance with the signal, or applying heat energy corresponding to a recording signal to a recording liquid in a room of a recording head by using, for example, a heating heater. There is a method of performing recording by discharging a recording liquid. For example, as described in Japanese Patent Application Laid-Open No. 54-59936, an ink jet recording method in which ink is ejected by utilizing the bubbling phenomenon of ink due to thermal energy is used for an opening (hereinafter referred to as an "orifice") through which ink is ejected. This method is one of the mainstays of the current ink jet recording method because it is easy to achieve high integration and high density. Incidentally, the following characteristics (1) to (6) can be given as preferable characteristics of the ink used for the ink jet recording.
[0004]
When the preferred conditions of the ink used in this method are listed below,
(1) The liquid droplets are constantly and stably discharged from fine discharge ports with good frequency response, and no clogging occurs. In particular, the responsiveness of foaming to heat energy is good.
[0005]
(2) During recording suspension, stable ejection can be obtained immediately after resuming recording even if the cap is left without capping. That is, the ink in the vicinity of the discharge port is not easily dried and does not cause clogging.
[0006]
(3) A high-quality image without irregular or irregular bleeding can be obtained, especially on plain paper or cloth.
[0007]
(4) Fast fixing property (print drying property) to plain paper or cloth, and does not stain even if the printed matter is rubbed.
[0008]
(5) The storage stability is good, and the ink performance is maintained for a long time. In particular, in the case of the method using thermal energy, there is no occurrence of disconnection or deposition of foreign matter on the heating head.
[0009]
(6) Excellent safety such as toxicity and flammability.
And the like.
[0010]
In response to these demands, conventional ink formulations include, for example, inks generally containing a high-boiling organic solvent such as glycol for the purpose of preventing drying and clogging. When printing on plain paper with a high density, the ink does not easily penetrate into the paper and the drying performance of the recording part is poor, so if you touch the recorded material with your hand, the ink may get on your hand or the characters may be rubbed and stained And so on.
[0011]
Therefore, in order to enhance the permeability of the ink into the paper, Japanese Patent Application Laid-Open No. 55-29546 proposes a method of adding a large amount of a surfactant to the ink. In this case, very much bleeding occurs depending on the paper, or when the ink is filled in the ink jet head, depending on the structure of the head, the ink recedes from the orifice surface, and the ink is not discharged, or the ink is not discharged. However, there were problems such as that the entire orifice surface was wet and ink was not ejected.
[0012]
JP-A-56-57862 also proposes a method of making the pH of the ink strongly alkaline. However, in this case, it is dangerous if the ink is touched by hand, and a certain size There are drawbacks such as bleeding on paper using the agent, for example, neutral paper, etc., and poor drying properties.
[0013]
In addition to the above, although various improvements have been attempted so far, there has been no known ink which sufficiently solves all the above-mentioned problems of bleeding, drying, and clogging. At present, the design of inks that further have the ability to respond well to frequency is important, but an extremely difficult task.
[0014]
[Problems to be solved by the invention]
Accordingly, an object of the present invention is to provide a frequency response, particularly a foaming response to heat energy due to frequency, and to use uncoated paper commonly used in offices such as copy paper, report paper, notebooks, and stationery, so-called It is an object of the present invention to provide an ink and an ink jet recording method which solve the slow drying of an ink on a recorded matter when recording on plain paper, and to provide an apparatus using such an ink.
[0015]
Another object of the present invention is to provide an ink that is highly safe for use in offices and homes.
[0016]
It is a further object of the present invention to provide an ink which hardly causes clogging in nozzles of an ink jet recording head and which has excellent reliability, and a device using such an ink.
[0017]
[Means for Solving the Problems]
The above object is achieved by the present invention described below.
[0018]
That is, the present invention is an ink containing a recording agent and a liquid medium for dissolving or dispersing the recording agent, which contains the compound represented by the general formula [1].
[0019]
Further, the present invention is an ink jet recording method in which the above ink is used in an ink jet recording method in which an ink droplet is applied from an orifice according to a recording signal to perform recording on a recording material.
[0020]
According to the present invention, there is provided a recording unit including an ink containing section containing ink and a head section for ejecting the ink as ink droplets, wherein the above ink is used as the ink.
[0021]
According to the present invention, there is provided an ink cartridge provided in an ink containing section containing ink, wherein the above ink is used as ink.
[0022]
According to the present invention, there is provided an ink jet recording apparatus including a recording unit having an ink containing section for containing ink and a head section for discharging the ink as ink droplets, wherein the ink is used as the ink. It is a recording device.
[0023]
The present invention relates to an ink jet recording apparatus including a recording head for discharging ink droplets, an ink cartridge having an ink containing section containing ink, and an ink supply section for supplying ink from the ink cartridge to the recording head. An ink jet recording apparatus using the above ink as the ink.
[0024]
BEST MODE FOR CARRYING OUT THE INVENTION
The present inventors are suitable for recording in which ink is ejected from nozzles, particularly in recording in which ink is ejected by the bubbling phenomenon of ink due to thermal energy, and improve the drying property and permeability of ink on paper or cloth. Furthermore, as a result of intensive studies on a highly reliable ink composition that is unlikely to cause clogging in the nozzles of the ink jet recording head, the ink containing the compound represented by the general formula [1] together with water as a liquid medium has a problem in terms of bleeding and permeability. The present invention has been found to be particularly well-balanced and has particularly good anti-clogging properties, and has led to the present invention.
[0025]
According to the findings of the present inventors, as a conventional anti-clogging agent, polyethylene glycols, glycerin and the like are used, and in particular, glycerin can be prevented from being clogged by adding a relatively small amount. It is a particularly preferable anti-clogging agent because it does not easily cause ink bleeding on paper. However, since the wettability to the sizing agent present in the paper is poor, some papers have a disadvantage that the ink has poor drying properties and permeability on the paper surface.
[0026]
On the other hand, the compound represented by the general formula [1] used in the present invention has the same clogging prevention effect as glycerin, and has a very good balance of ink permeability. The reason is considered to be that the compound has a low vapor pressure and is excellent in dissolving or dispersing the dye, so that the effect of preventing clogging can be obtained. Further, it is thought that the ink has a sulfur atom in the molecule, so that the wettability to paper or paper sizing agent is good, and as a result, the permeability of ink on paper or cloth is remarkably improved.
[0027]
On the other hand, the responsiveness to frequency becomes particularly good when the content of the compound represented by the general formula [1] in the ink is 0.1 to 30% by weight and water is also contained in 50 to 95% by weight. This is presumably because the physical properties of the ink mixed in the above ratio and the wettability to each member inside the nozzle are optimal for a recording method for discharging the ink.
[0028]
Next, each component of the ink of the present invention will be described.
[0029]
Examples of the compound represented by the general formula that is used in the present invention and mainly characterizes the present invention include the following formulas.
[Outside 2]
[0030]
The addition of the compound represented by the general formula [1] to the ink is used alone or in a mixed system, and varies depending on the coloring matter used and other liquid medium components used in combination, but is about 0.1 to 30% by weight. Is preferably 0.5 to 25% by weight, more preferably 1 to 20% by weight.
[0031]
When the content is less than 0.1% by weight, the effect of preventing clogging is not recognized. On the other hand, if the content exceeds 30% by weight, a problem arises in terms of permeability.
[0032]
Examples of the pigment constituting the ink of the present invention include direct dyes, acid dyes, food dyes, basic dyes, reactive dyes, disperse dyes, building dyes, soluble building dyes, reactive disperse dyes, oil dyes, and various pigments.
[0033]
The content of these dyes is determined depending on the type of the liquid medium component, the characteristics required for the ink, and the like. When the compound represented by the general formula [1] is used, the total amount of the ink is generally It is a ratio occupying about 0.2 to 25%, preferably 0.5 to 20%, more preferably 1 to 15% by weight.
[0034]
The proportion of water in the ink of the present invention is 50 to 95% by weight, preferably 55 to 95% by weight, and more preferably 60 to 95% by weight. When the amount of water is less than 50% by weight, the organic solvent is large and the paper curls, so that the print quality of plain paper is significantly deteriorated. When the amount of water exceeds 95% by weight, the discharge stability from the nozzle orifice may be significantly deteriorated.
[0035]
Although the essential components of the ink of the present invention are as described above, other common organic solvents used in conventionally known inks can also be used in combination. Specifically, for example, methyl alcohol, ethyl alcohol, n-propyl alcohol, C1-C5 alkyl alcohols such as isopropyl alcohol, n-butyl alcohol, sec-butyl alcohol, tert-butyl alcohol, isobutyl alcohol and n-pentanol; amides such as dimethylformamide and dimethylacetamide; Ketones or keto alcohols such as acetone alcohol; ethers such as tetrahydrofuran and dioxane; diethylene glycol, triethylene glycol, tetraethylene glycol, dipropylene glycol, tripropylene glycol, polyethylene glycol Oxyethylene or oxypropylene addition polymers such as ethylene glycol, polypropylene glycol and the like; alkylenes having an alkylene group of 2 to 6 carbon atoms such as ethylene glycol, propylene glycol, trimethylene glycol, butylene glycol, pentanediol and hexylene glycol Glycols; glycerin, trimethylolethane, trimethylolpropane, triols such as 1,2,6-hexanetriol; thiodiglycol; bishydroxyethylsulfone; ethylene glycol monomethyl (or ethyl, butyl) ether, diethylene glycol monomethyl (or Lower alkyl glycol ethers such as ethyl, butyl) ether and triethylene glycol monomethyl (or ethyl, butyl) ether; triethylene glycol Lower dialkyl glycol ethers such as dimethyl (or ethyl) ether and tetraethylene glycol dimethyl (or ethyl) ether; alkanolamines such as monoethanolamine, diethanolamine, and triethanolamine; sulfolane, N-methyl-2-pyrrolidone, -Pyrrolidone and 1,3-dimethyl-2-imidazolidinone.
[0036]
The content of the water-soluble organic solvent is generally in the range of 1 to 49%, preferably 2 to 40% by weight based on the total weight of the ink.
[0037]
When the above-mentioned media are used in combination, they can be used alone or in a mixture. The most preferred medium composition is a polyvalent solvent such as at least one water-soluble high-boiling organic solvent such as diethylene glycol, triethylene glycol, glycerin and thiodiglycol. It contains alcohol.
[0038]
In addition, various dispersants, surfactants, viscosity modifiers, surface tension modifiers, fluorescent brighteners, and the like can be added as necessary.
[0039]
For example, viscosity modifiers such as polyvinyl alcohol, celluloses, and water-soluble resins; various surfactants such as cation, anion or nonionic; surface tension regulators such as diethanolamine and triethanolamine; Fungicides and the like can be mentioned.
[0040]
Furthermore, the ink of the present invention solves the bleeding of the ink and the drying and penetrating properties of the recorded matter when recorded on plain paper. It is desirable that the viscosity is adjusted to 60 dyn / cm and the viscosity to 15 cP or less, preferably 10 cP or less, more preferably 5 cP or less.
[0041]
The ink of the present invention is particularly preferably used for an ink jet recording method for performing recording by discharging droplets, but it goes without saying that it can also be used for general writing instruments.
[0042]
Examples of a method and apparatus suitable for performing recording using the ink of the present invention include, for example, a method and apparatus for applying thermal energy corresponding to a recording signal to ink in a chamber of a recording head and generating droplets by the thermal energy. Is mentioned.

In FIG. 4, reference numeral 61 denotes a blade serving as a wiping member, one end of which is held by a blade holding member and serves as a fixed end, forming a cantilever. The blade 61 is disposed at a position adjacent to the recording area of the recording head, and in this example, is held in a form protruding into the movement path of the recording head. Reference numeral 62 denotes a cap, which is disposed at a home position adjacent to the blade 61 and has a configuration in which the cap moves in a direction perpendicular to the direction in which the print head moves and comes into contact with the discharge port surface to perform capping. Further, 63 is an absorber provided adjacent to the blade 61 and, like the blade 61, is held in a form protruding into the movement path of the recording head. The blade 61, the cap 62, and the absorber 63 constitute an ejection recovery unit 64, and the blade 61 and the absorber 63 remove water, dust, and the like from the ink ejection port surface. Reference numeral 65 denotes a recording head which has ejection energy generating means and performs recording by ejecting ink to a recording material facing an ejection port surface provided with ejection ports, and 66 denotes a mounting of the recording head 65 and movement of the recording head 65. Is a carriage for performing the following. The carriage 66 is slidably engaged with the guide shaft 67, and a part of the carriage 66 is connected to a belt 69 driven by a motor 68 (not shown). As a result, the carriage 66 can move along the guide shaft 67, and the recording head 65 can move the recording area and the area adjacent thereto.
[0051]
[0052]
In the above configuration, when the recording head 65 returns to the home position at the end of recording or the like, the cap 62 of the head recovery unit 64 is retracted from the moving path of the recording head 65, but the blade 61 protrudes into the moving path. As a result, the ejection port surface of the recording head 65 is wiped. When capping is performed with the cap 62 in contact with the ejection surface of the recording head 65, the cap 62 moves so as to protrude into the movement path of the recording head.
[0053]
When the recording head 65 moves from the home position to the recording start position, the cap 62 and the blade 61 are at the same position as the position at the time of wiping described above. As a result, the ejection port surface of the recording head 65 is also wiped during this movement.
[0054]
The above-described movement of the print head to the home position is performed not only at the end of printing or at the time of ejection recovery, but also at a predetermined interval to the home position adjacent to the printing area while the printing head moves through the printing area for printing. Then, the wiping is performed along with this movement.
