Description
【0001】
γ1=F6/(L・W)=F7/(L・W)=γ2 (N/m2)=(Pa)

【0056】

BEST MODE FOR CARRYING OUT THE INVENTION
Hereinafter, an embodiment of a fixing device according to the present invention will be described. FIG. 1 is an explanatory diagram showing a state in which forces are balanced in the fixing device of the present invention. In FIG. 1,

Therefore, if the tension applied to the belt at the point P2 is F2, F2 <F1.
Further, between points P2 and P3, the tension F2 further decreases due to the kinetic frictional force of the belt and the belt tension member. Therefore, if the tension applied to the belt at point P3 is F3, F3 <F2. FIG. 2 is a schematic diagram showing the tension at each point on the

Here, when the length L (m) of the seam portion and the width of the belt (the width of the adhesive layer) are W (m),
γ1 = F6 / (L · W) = F7 / (L · W) = γ2 (N / m 2 ) = (Pa)
Holds. Therefore, it is shown that the shearing force γ1 (γ2) decreases in inverse proportion to the length L of the seam portion. The tension F6 and the reaction force F7 are equal to the tension F2 shown in FIG.
[0018]
Then, assuming that the distance between the points P1 and P2 in FIG. 1 is Lh (m), the tension F6 and the reaction force F7 become the tension F3 shown in FIG. 2 when L = Lh. From FIG. 2, since F3 <F2 holds, the shear force γ1 (γ2) also decreases. Thereafter, when L> Lh, the shear force is saturated. FIG. 5 is an explanatory diagram showing the relationship between the length L of the seam portion and the shearing force γ1 (γ2). From FIG. 5, it is possible to minimize the shearing force γ1 (γ2) applied to the

That is, in the fixing belt of the present invention, the length of the seam portion is set to the point P1 of the driving tension member (belt tension member 1) 52 abutting on the heating member (pressure contact member) 54 and the tension member (belt tension member). The distance between the points P2 of the member 2) is not less than Lh.

[0023]
Therefore, by setting the length L of the seam portion to be equal to or longer than the distance Lh between the points P1 and P2, it is possible to minimize the shearing force γ1 (γ2) applied to the adhesive layer of the fixing belt. In all cases where the entire seam portion is between points P1 and P2 and where a part of the seam portion is between points P1 and P2, the shear force γ1 (γ2 ) Can be minimized. Therefore, damage to the fixing belt can be prevented, and the life can be prolonged.

Next, the relationship between the width of the seam portion of the fixing belt and the durability will be described. Continuous printing was performed with the image forming apparatus shown in FIG. 7 while changing the width of the seam portion, and the durability was evaluated. The printed image is an A4 size full color character image. The durability was evaluated by stopping the image forming apparatus after every 500 sheets of continuous printing, opening the lid of the apparatus, and visually inspecting the belt intermediate transfer member for damage such as peeling, floating, cracking, and tearing. did. Then, the total number of sheets passed at the time when those damages occurred was defined as the number of life printed sheets. Table 1 shows the results of the evaluation of the width of the seam portion and the number of printed sheets with a lifetime.
[0051]
[Table 1]
[0052]
According to Table 1, although there are some measurement variations, the shearing force applied to the seam portion can be reduced by making the seam width longer than the length of 8.6 mm of the points P1 and P2 in FIG. In addition, the number of life prints can be increased.
[0053]
The adhesive strength of the resin melt-bonded portion or the adhesive or the like at the seam portion of the fixing belt decreases as the temperature increases. Therefore, a fixing belt used at a high temperature needs to lower the pulling force of the fixing belt more than a belt photoreceptor or a belt intermediate transfer body used at a room temperature. In the present invention, since the pulling force of the fixing belt can be reduced as described above, the use of the fixing device of the present invention further enhances the effect of preventing damage to the fixing belt.
[0054]
In addition, by using an epoxy resin, a urea resin, or a thermosetting resin to which these are added, a high adhesive strength can be maintained even at a high temperature. By using such an adhesive in the fixing device having the configuration of the present invention, a fixing belt having a longer life can be realized.
