【従来の技術】
従来、LAN等のネットワーク上に存在するプリンタのファームウェアをアップデートする場合、ネットワーク上のコンピュータから管理者等が手作業にっよて、各プリンタについて1台1台アップデートを実施していた。

【発明が解決しようとする課題】
ところで、上記のように、プリンタのファームウェアをアップデートする際に、管理者等がコンピュータ上から手作業によって各プリンタについてアップデートすることは手間がかかり煩雑であった。
また、ファームウェアの更新が行われても、その結果を管理者等が知ることができず、また、ファームウェアが更新中であることが分からないために、誤って電源を切断してしまい、プリンタの使用が不能になる等の問題もあった。
さらには、ファームウェアが更新されても、更新されたファームウェアにバグ等があるような場合にはプリンタが使用不能になる可能性があった。

本発明の目的は、上記の問題点に鑑み、プリンタのファームウェアをアップデートする際に、自動的に複数のファームウェアをまとめてアップデートすることを可能にし、また、ファームウェアの更新状況を表示することによって誤操作を防止し、さらには旧バージョンのファームウェアを手動で適用できるようにして、更新されたファームウェアにバグ等があるような場合でも、プリンタの使用を可能にしたプリンタ監視システム、プリンタ監視方法、プリンタ監視プログラム、記録媒体を提供することにある。

【課題を解決するための手段】
本発明は、上記の課題を解決するために、次のような手段を採用した。
第1の手段は、ウェブサイトからプリンタファームウェアの最新のバージョン情報を取得する最新ファームウェアバージョン取得手段と、ウェブサイトから前記最新ファームウェアバージョンにおける最新のプリンタファームウェアを取得しダウンロードする最新ファームウェアダウンロード手段と、ダウンロードされた前記最新のプリンタファームウェアを蓄積するファームウェア蓄積手段と、LAN上に存在するプリンタアドレスを列挙するプリンタアドレス列挙手段と、列挙されたプリンタアドレスをキーとしてプリンタに搭載されているファームウェアのバージョン情報を取得するプリンタファームウェアバージョン取得手段と、最新ファームウェアバージョンがプリンタファームウェアバージョンより高バージョンのときは、最新ファームウェアに更新するファームウェア更新手段とからなることを特徴とするプリンタ監視システムである。

本発明の一実施形態を図1ないし図4を用いて説明する。
図1は、本発明のプリンタ監視システムに係る機器構成の一例を示す図である。
同図において、1は本発明のプリンタ監視システムが導入されたパーソナルコンピュータ(以下、PCという)、2はその他のクライアントPC、3,4はそれぞれプリンタ、5はルータ、6はLANであり、各PC1,2、プリンタ3,4、およびルータ5はLAN6を介して接続され、さらにLAN6はルータ5を介してインターネット(WAN)に接続されている。

請求項1および請求項4に記載の発明によれば、複数のプリンタのファームウェアをまとめて自動的にアップデートすることができるので、管理上の手間を軽減することができる。
