Abstract
Description
【0001】
ここで、図2または図3に示すように、DUTをDAC10eまたはADC2f(つまり、図1のDAC10dの出力をADC2dに入力するシステム構成)とすることもできる。
【0015】
【0028】
最後に、上記のパラメータR(n),S(n),T(n),U(n),V(n),W(n)の導出方法について簡単に説明する。

Here, C is an arbitrary constant and corresponds to a DC component. Then, this input signal is supplied to the analog / digital converter. For example, in the case of the ADSL application, n = 256 is used as n in (Equation 1). Here, for the sake of simplicity, as shown in the following (Equation 2), two frequency components ω 1 And ω 2 Is considered (n = 2).
(Equation 2)
Here, when the analog-to-digital converter has nonlinearity, the output from the analog-to-digital converter is ω 1 , Ω 2 Not only the signal component of 1 + Qω 2 (P, q = 0, ± 1, ± 2, ± 3 ...). These are commonly referred to as intermodulation distortion (IMD). Among them, 2ω 1 −ω 2 , 2ω 2 −ω 1 The evaluation of the third-order IMD component is particularly important in the characteristic evaluation of the analog-to-digital converter. Because, ω 1 ≒ ω 2 In the case of, as shown in FIG. 1 −ω 2 , 2ω 2 −ω 1 Is the main signal component ω 1 , Ω 2 Because it appears relatively near (ie, near the signal band). Such ω 1 ≒ ω 2 In the case of (1), it is necessary to evaluate the IMD component with high accuracy.
[0003]
Further, in the evaluation of the ADSL analog-to-digital converter, it is necessary to evaluate the noise power ratio (NPR) as shown in FIG. This NPR is caused by intermodulation distortion (IMD) sneaking into an empty channel when a signal having an empty channel is input between active channels having the same amplitude. As described above, in the analog-to-digital converter for communication, it is necessary to analyze and evaluate the frequency domain such as IMD and NPR.
[0004]
Conventionally, in order to execute such an analysis evaluation in the frequency domain, a fast Fourier transform method (hereinafter, referred to as “FFT method”) and a single tone curve fitting method are applied as typical evaluation algorithms. There are methods extended to handle a plurality of frequency components. Here, a method in which the single tone curve fitting method is extended will be described. In this method, first, focusing only on a certain frequency component, curve fitting is performed using a sine wave having this specific frequency component. Next, curve fitting is performed again on a new signal obtained by subtracting the obtained component from the original signal (or the original signal) using a single frequency sine wave of another frequency. By repeating this, an analysis result corresponding to a plurality of frequency components is finally obtained. In this method, since a sine wave signal of a single frequency is used, there is no need to provide a window function. In addition, since a high-precision sine wave can be easily generated electrically, the SNR evaluation and the harmonic distortion evaluation can be performed with high accuracy for low to high frequency inputs. However, in this analysis method, there is no mathematically perfect orthogonality between the frequency component used first and the frequency component used in the subsequent analysis. May occur.
[0005]
Next, the FFT method will be described. The FFT method is widely recognized as an evaluation algorithm for evaluating the characteristics of analog-to-digital converters using a single sine wave signal, and is useful for multi-tone testing including multiple sine wave signals. (In the case where a plurality of sine-wave signals of different frequency components are mixed), it is a powerful candidate as an evaluation algorithm.
[0006]
However, the FFT method has the following disadvantages. First, consider the case where the sampling clock of the input signal and the analog-to-digital converter is synchronized as shown in FIG. 2 (that is, the case of coherent sampling). Where ω s Is the sampling frequency, and N is the number of input data. 1 And ω 2 But both are ω s If it is an integer multiple of / N, the FFT method can be used directly for evaluating IMD. However, it is difficult to satisfy this condition because there are a plurality of input frequency components. In particular, when n is large in (Equation 1), it is practically difficult to satisfy this condition. If this condition is not satisfied, it is necessary to apply a window function to the output data of the analog-to-digital converter before the FFT, since the FFT is assumed to be a repeated signal of N data. However, when the FFT is performed by applying a window function, the signal angular frequency ω 1 And ω 2 A power spectrum skirt as shown in FIG. This gives ω 1 And ω 2 And the most important frequency component, the third-order IMD component 2ω 1 −ω 2 And 2ω 2 −ω 1 Hides in the skirt. Therefore, in such a case, it is difficult to perform an accurate IMD evaluation.
[0007]
Next, in the case of an incoherent sampling analog-to-digital converter evaluation test as shown in FIG. 9 (when the sampling clock between the input signal and the analog-to-digital converter is not synchronized) or as shown in FIG. Consider the case of evaluating an analog-to-digital converter incorporated in a simple system. In particular, in FIG. 10, since the sampling clock of the analog-to-digital converter uses the
[0008]
As described above, an IMD evaluation technique for an analog-to-digital converter characteristic evaluation test has not been completed yet. This is due to the lack of a suitable algorithm for evaluating IMD.
[0009]
[Problems to be solved by the invention]
The present invention has been made in view of such circumstances, and has as its object to provide an appropriate evaluation algorithm for evaluating the above-described IMD.
[0010]
[Means for Solving the Problems]
The present invention provides a two-tone (or multi-tone) curve fitting algorithm that extends the conventional sine curve fitting algorithm using a single sine wave to solve the above problem.
Specifically, a step of inputting a test signal in which a plurality of sine waves of different frequencies output from a signal generator are mixed to a device under test, and outputting from the device under test in response to the test signal Storing the signal in a memory, and analyzing the signal stored in the memory by a processor to derive a component indicating the characteristic of the device under test, wherein the signal stored in the memory and the signal In order to minimize the function to which the least-squares criterion is applied to the difference from the test signal, the function to which the least-squares criterion is applied is partially differentiated with respect to each of the components. Determining by said processor the value of said component such that the function is less than or equal to a desired threshold value ε. Here, an aspect in which the component includes at least one of an amplitude, a phase, and a constant portion of the test signal input to the device under test, or the device under test includes an amplifier, a digital / analog A converter, an analog-to-digital converter, a digital-to-analog converter with a built-in clock generator, or an analog-to-digital converter with a built-in clock generator, or the clock generator and the signal generator. When the device is not synchronized, the component is the angular frequency of the test signal input to the device under test, or the angular frequency of the test signal input to the device under test And a sampling frequency for sampling the test signal output from the device under test. It is preferably Dale manner.
Further, a computer program for causing a computer to execute any of the above methods is also provided.
[0011]
Here, “device under test (DUT)” means, for example, a semiconductor device, a semiconductor element, or an apparatus including these. The “test signal” input to the device under test may be an analog signal or a digital signal. This is because, for example, by using a digital-to-analog converter or an analog-to-digital converter, a test signal corresponding to the device under test can be selected. In the case where the device under test accepts an analog input, the test signal can be input directly through an analog-to-digital converter if the test signal is digital, and can be input directly if the test signal is analog. Similarly, depending on whether the output of the device under test is analog or digital, a digital-to-analog converter or an analog-to-digital converter for connecting to a subsequent measurement device can be used as required.
[0012]
In addition, the “signal generator” here refers to a device that can simultaneously or separately generate test signals in which a plurality of sine waves having different frequencies are mixed. Further, "out of synchronization" means that the timing of inputting a test signal from the signal generator to the device under test does not match the timing of extracting an output signal from the device under test in response to the test signal. Or difficult to match. For example, a system incorporating a clock circuit different from the clock circuit of the test system and an analog-to-digital converter operated by the different clock circuit is used as a device under test to input a test signal from a signal generator. This is the case.

BEST MODE FOR CARRYING OUT THE INVENTION
FIGS. 1 to 5 show a system configuration for evaluating characteristics of a device under test (hereinafter, referred to as “DUT”) of the present invention. Here, the system configuration shown in FIGS. 1 to 3 corresponds to a case where the input frequency is known (a case where the input frequency is coherent). The system configurations shown in FIGS. 4 and 5 correspond to a case where the input frequency is unknown (a case where the input frequency is incoherent).

[0016]
Next, the evaluation method of the present invention when the above-described system configuration is used will be described. Here, the case of the system configuration shown in FIG. 3 (the case where the DUT is the ADC 2f) will be described. It is also assumed that the exact ratio between the input frequency and the sampling frequency is known. First, the multitone signal V shown in the following (Equation 3) in (T) is input to the ADC 2f.
[Equation 3]
Let y (k) be the time 2πk / ω for this input s Assume that the output data of the ADC at (k = 0, 1, 2,..., N−1) (that is, the k-th) ADC. Where ω s Is the sampling angular frequency, ω l / Ω s Are known (l = 1, 2, 3, 3,..., N). Also, the output of an ideal ADC is assumed as in the following (Equation 4).
(Equation 4)
Where a l , B l , C are constants and N samples (y (0), y (1),..., Y () of the output data y (k) of the ADC according to the following least-squares criterion of (Equation 5). N-1)) from a 1 , A 2 ,. . . , A n , B 1 , B 2 ,. . . , B n , C are optimally estimated.
(Equation 5)
[0017]
Next, consider solving the problem given by (Equation 5). Here, from (Equation 4) and (Equation 5), P e Is as follows (Equation 6).
(Equation 6)
Then, as shown in the following (Equation 7), P e Is partially differentiated by each parameter, and each is set to zero.
(Equation 7)
From these, a multi-tone curve fitting algorithm shown in the following (Equation 8) is obtained.
(Equation 8)
Here, x, y, and F are defined as shown in the following (Equation 9) to (Equation 11), and each parameter is defined as shown in (Equation 12) to (Equation 19).

[0018]
From the above equation (8), it is possible to obtain the intermodulation distortion (IMD) and the signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) for a multitone input when the input frequency is known. In order to explain the method of obtaining the intermodulation distortion using the above (Equation 8), a three-tone input (n = 3, and the input angular frequency is ω as shown in the following (Equation 20)) 1 , Ω 2 , Ω 3 Numerical simulation was performed on the output model of the ADC in the case of). Specifically, in (Equation 4), the ADC output model as shown in (Equation 20) below
(Equation 20)
Using A 1 , A 2 , Θ 1 , Θ 2 , C are estimated. Next, a residual e (k) between the actual output y (k) and the optimum estimated output m (k) is considered as shown in (Equation 21).
(Equation 21)
[0019]
The residual e (k) includes intermodulation distortion and noise components in addition to the signal components. From the residual e (k), the intermodulation distortion component 2ω 1 −ω 2 , 2ω 2 −ω 1 , 2ω 1 −ω 3 , 2ω 3 −ω 1 , 2ω 2 −ω 3 , 2ω 3 −ω 2 Is used to estimate the model m (k) ′ shown in the following (Equation 22).
(Equation 22)
Similarly, consider the following least-squares criterion shown in (Equation 23).
(Equation 23)
Using the same algorithm as (Equation 8), D 1 , D 2 ,. . . , D 6 , Φ 1 , Φ 2 ,. . . , Φ 6 Can be optimally estimated. Table 1 shows the results of this numerical simulation. Here, N = 8192, ω 1 / Ω s = 0.09, ω 2 / Ω s = 0.1006, ω 3 / Ω s = 0.1084. From this table, it can be seen that each signal component and intermodulation distortion (IMD) are estimated with high accuracy using the evaluation method (or algorithm) shown in (Equation 8) of the present invention.
[Table 1]
[0020]
Then, a 1 , B 1 , A 2 , B 2 ,. . . , A n , B n , C, using the estimated value of SNR. ADC signal power P s And noise power P n Is given as the following (Equation 24).
[Equation 24]
From these, the SNR is obtained as in the following (Equation 25).
(Equation 25)
[0021]
Next, a method of evaluating an ADC in an incoherent case will be considered. In this case, the exact ratio between the input frequency and the known sampling frequency is unknown, and it is necessary to estimate the value of this ratio.
[0022]
Angular frequency ω 1 And ω 2 Time 2πk / ω for a two-tone input of s It is assumed that there are samples of the output data y (k) of N ADCs (k = 0, 1, 2,..., N−1). Where ω s Is the sampling angular frequency, ω 1 / Ω s , Ω 2 / Ω s Is unknown. An ideal ADC output is assumed as in the following (Equation 26).
(Equation 26)
Where A 1 , A 2 , Θ 1 , Θ 2 , C are constants, and A is obtained from N samples of the output data y (k) of the ADC according to the least-squares criterion as shown in the following (Equation 27). 1 , A 2 , Θ 1 , Θ 2 , Ω 1 , Ω 2 , C are optimally estimated.
[Equation 27]
[0023]
Here, considering specifically solving (Equation 27), from (Equation 26) and (Equation 27), P e Is expressed as shown in the following (Equation 28).
[Equation 28]
Then, in the above (Equation 28), P e Is partially differentiated by each parameter. Then, as shown in (Equation 29), the right-hand side of the value obtained by partial differentiation of each parameter is set to zero.
(Equation 29)
Since these are nonlinear algebraic equations, it is difficult to obtain a solution analytically. For that purpose, for example, it is necessary to numerically obtain a solution using a computer. Then, unknown parameters are repeatedly set, and calculation is repeatedly performed until a final target value is known.
[0024]
The above-described iterative algorithm derived will be described below (detailed derivation process will be described later). Where A 1 (n) , A 2 (n) , Ω 1 (n) , Ω 2 (n) , Θ 1 (n) , Θ 2 (n) To each A 1 , A 2 , Ω 1 , Ω 2 , Θ 1 , Θ 2 Is the estimated value in the n-th repetitive calculation. Estimated value A in the (n + 1) th repeated calculation 1 (n + 1) , A 2 (n + 1) , Ω 1 (n + 1) , Ω 2 (n + 1) , Θ 1 (n + 1) , Θ 2 (n + 1) Is obtained by the following (Equation 30).
[Equation 30]
Where x (N) , Y (N) , F (N) Are defined as shown in the following (Equation 31) to (Equation 33).
(Equation 31)
(Equation 32)
[Equation 33]
Also, R (N) , S (N) , T (N) , U (N) , V (N) , W (N) Is defined as shown in the following (Equation 34) to (Equation 39).

[0025]
Next, an evaluation result by a numerical simulation using the above-described characteristic evaluation method (algorithm) of the present invention will be described. Table 2 shows the results of numerical simulation of the characteristic evaluation method (algorithm) of the present invention applied to the case of a two-tone signal input signal. In Table 2, “actual value” is the value of the input actually used in the simulation, “estimated value” is the value estimated finally, and “initial value” is the initial value of the iterative process. This is the value set in. In practice, by using other methods such as the FFT method together, 1 / Ω s And ω 2 / Ω s Since the approximate values of are often known, these initial values are set relatively close to the actual values. Here, Table 2 (a) shows ω by the evaluation method using the multitone curve fitting test method of the present invention. 1 / Ω s And ω 2 / Ω s The result when components are estimated simultaneously is shown. Table 2 (b) shows a case where the conventional single tone curve fitting test method is repeatedly used, and firstly, ω 1 / Ω s Estimating the component and subtracting the estimated value from the actual output data 2 / Ω s The results when the components are estimated are shown. Comparing the results of these numerical simulations, it can be seen that the evaluation method (algorithm) of the present invention can estimate the signal components with higher accuracy than when the conventional algorithm is used. Similarly, the intermodulation distortion (IMD) component can be evaluated by estimating the intermodulation distortion from the residual obtained by subtracting the estimated value from the actual output value.
[Table 2]
[0026]
Here, the results of comparison between the method (algorithm) of the present invention and the conventional method in the case of two-tone (n = 2) are shown. However, in principle, the same method is used to multiply the general value of n. An algorithm for the tone can be determined.
[0027]
Further, the case where Gaussian noise is further added to the above-described two-tone (n = 2) was also examined in the same manner. Table 3 (a) shows the analysis result in the case of the multitone fitting algorithm using the evaluation method of the present invention, and the analysis in the case of the conventional single sine curve fitting algorithm which repeatedly applies a single sine wave. The results are shown in Table 3 (b). Compared with the conventional method, the value estimated by the evaluation method of the present invention is closer to the actual value, and thus it can be seen that the signal component and the frequency component are estimated with higher accuracy than the conventional method.
[Table 3]
[0028]
Finally, the above parameter R (N) , S (N) , T (N) , U (N) , V (N) , W (N) The method of deriving is briefly described. As shown in (Equation 44), the least square error ε is defined. Here, this ε is desirably set to 0 if possible. However, when ε is a sufficiently small value, the final estimation result has high accuracy, but the number of repetitions until the final estimation value is obtained increases, and the calculation time becomes longer. For this reason, it should be noted that the value of ε is determined by a trade-off between emphasis on shortening the calculation time and obtaining an accurate estimation result.
[Equation 44]
Then, (Equation 44) is partially differentiated by each parameter to be optimally estimated to create a seven-dimensional linear simultaneous equation as shown in (Equation 45) to (Equation 51).

Similarly, when (Expression 52) is substituted into (Expression 46) and rearranged, (Expression 54) corresponding to S is obtained. By substituting (Equation 52) for (Equation 48) and rearranging, (Equation 56) corresponding to U is obtained. 【The invention's effect】
As described above, for the test evaluation of the ADC of the communication (frequency domain) application used in the receiving unit of the mobile phone or the like, the multitone tone of the present invention is used in each case where the input frequency is known and unknown. By applying the curve fitting algorithm to coherent and incoherent cases, it is possible to obtain a more accurate estimation result than the conventional method. In particular, when the input frequency is unknown (incoherent), the evaluation method of the present invention has a plurality of evaluation methods compared to the case where the single tone curve fitting method is gradually applied to each frequency component. Is analyzed at a time, the analysis result finally obtained has high accuracy.
