TECHNICAL FIELD OF THE INVENTION
The present invention relates to a two-dimensional radiation image detector or two-dimensional neutron image detection using a fluorescent substance or a scintillator as a detection medium in which the influence of radiation or neutron absorption or reflection by a detector constituent material placed in front of a detection medium is eliminated. To provide a vessel.
[0002]
2. Description of the Related Art
Conventionally, a radiation image detector or a neutron image detector having a high positional resolution used for X-ray or neutron scattering experiments using an X-ray source using synchrotron radiation or a neutron source using a nuclear reactor or accelerator Radiation and neutron image detectors combining a phosphor or a scintillator and a neutron converter with these have been used [Nucl. Instr. And Meth. A430 (1999) 311-320, Japanese Patent Application No. 10-366679, Japanese Patent Application 2000-259443, Japanese Patent Application 2001-019831]. These detectors are characterized by obtaining position information by a cross-fiber reading method, and as shown in FIG. 19, wavelength-shifting fiber bundles are arranged in a plane at right angles to the upper and lower surfaces of a phosphor sheet or a scintillator plate. The radiation incident position is determined by the coincidence method and the radiation image is acquired.
[0003]
However, these detectors absorb radiation, especially low energy X-rays, gamma-rays, beta-rays, alpha-rays, light or heavy particles, when the radiation enters, due to the wavelength-shifting fiber placed on top. This has the disadvantage that some or all of the radiation cannot be detected. In addition, when a fiber made of plastic is used as the wavelength shift fiber, if the neutron energy becomes high, hydrogen in the fiber causes reflection, so that some neutrons cannot be detected.
[0004]
In addition, as shown in FIG. 20, four scintillators are covered with a fluorescent reflecting material, and the upper and lower faces are the same as in the above example, as shown in FIG. 20 when a scintillator capable of increasing the thickness of the detector is used. A wavelength-shifting fiber bundle is arranged in a plane at right angles to the surface, and the radiation incident position is determined by a coincidence method to acquire a radiation image. In addition, as shown in FIG. 21, wavelength shift fibers are arranged on the four side surfaces of the scintillator, and the X-axis and Y-axis position signals are obtained by simultaneously measuring the opposing side surfaces. A method of determining the two-dimensional position on the X axis and the Y axis by recounting the position signal again has been used. However, these methods have a drawback in that when the number of imaging pixels is increased, it takes time and effort to manufacture.
[0005]
On the other hand, as shown in FIG. 22, as a method of improving these disadvantages, the same type of wavelength-shifting fiber bundle matching the fluorescent wavelength band emitted from the phosphor is provided on the lower surface of the neutron detection sheet in which the phosphor and the neutron converter are mixed. Are arranged at right angles on a plane, a radiation incident position is determined by a coincidence method, and a neutron image is acquired.
[0006]
In the case of this method, it is necessary to make a part of the fluorescence from the radiation or neutron imaging sheet or the scintillator which emits fluorescence when the radiation or neutron is incident reach the wavelength shift fiber arranged at the lower part, so that the wavelength set at the first is set. A special wavelength shift fiber in which the concentration of the wavelength conversion phosphor of the shift fiber is adjusted to be lower than the standard is required. Further, when transmitting the fluorescent light through the first optical fiber, the amount of the transmitted fluorescent light is reduced due to the absorption of the fiber itself in addition to the absorption of the wavelength conversion phosphor, and the utilization efficiency of the fluorescent light generated from the phosphor is deteriorated. There was a disadvantage.
[0007]
Further, as shown in FIG. 23, a neutron detection sheet in which a phosphor and a neutron converter are mixed, or a lower surface of a neutron scintillator, and a wavelength shift fiber of the same type corresponding to a fluorescence wavelength band emitted from the phosphor are used. A neutron imaging detector that opens a space orthogonal to the wavelength shift fiber in the Y direction and the wavelength shift fiber in the Y axis direction, determines the radiation incident position by the coincidence method, and obtains a neutron image has been proposed. However, there is a drawback that only a fluorescent substance or a scintillator that generates a large amount of fluorescent light can be used, because the positional resolution is deteriorated due to the above and the fluorescent light emitted from the fluorescent substance or the scintillator is used in vain.
[0008]
[Means for Solving the Problems]
For X-axis short-wavelength side fluorescence detection on the lower surface of a radiation or neutron imaging sheet, which is a sheet of phosphor that emits fluorescence when radiation or neutrons enter, or a scintillator that emits fluorescence when radiation or neutrons enter The wavelength-shifting fibers are arranged in parallel on the surface, and the wavelength-shifting fibers for long-wavelength-side fluorescence detection are arranged in parallel for the Y axis in the direction perpendicular to the surface behind the wavelength-shifting fiber for short-wavelength detection. A method for determining the two-dimensional incident position of radiation or neutrons by arranging them and performing simultaneous counting measurement of the X-axis pulse signal and the Y-axis pulse signal has been devised.
[0009]
In this way, by using two types of wavelength-shifted fiber, selecting the type of phosphor or scintillator, and utilizing the efficiently generated fluorescence, the detection efficiency or positional resolution is improved, and radiation or neutrons due to the detector constituent materials are used. A two-dimensional radiation and neutron image detector using a phosphor or a scintillator with reduced influence due to absorption or reflection of light. A standard wavelength shift fiber can be used as it is.
[0010]
On the other hand, for the radiation or neutron imaging sheet in which the phosphor is formed into a sheet, two types of phosphors are used so as to match the absorption wavelength bands of the wavelength shift fiber for short-wavelength fluorescence detection and the wavelength shift fiber for long-wavelength fluorescence detection. And by adjusting the mixture ratio, the fluorescence can be used efficiently. In addition, for the scintillator, by using in combination with a wavelength shift plate, two types of fluorescence, fluorescence from the scintillator and fluorescence shifted in wavelength, are used, and by adjusting the ratio of wavelength shift, efficient position detection can be achieved. A two-dimensional radiation and neutron image detector that can be used. Hereinafter, the present invention will be described based on examples.

(Example 1)
First Embodiment FIG. 1 shows the structure of a two-dimensional radiation image detector according to the present invention as a first embodiment. In this embodiment, alpha rays are detected as radiation, and ZnS: Ag which is commonly used as a phosphor for an alpha ray detection medium is used. On the lower surface of a phosphor sheet in which ZnS: Ag is formed into a sheet having a thickness of 0.2 mm, as shown in FIG. 1, a wavelength shift fiber for short wavelength and a wavelength shift fiber for long wavelength are arranged in parallel and arranged at right angles. I do.
[0012]
The center of the fluorescence wavelength of ZnS: Ag is 450 nm, and emits fluorescence of a wide wavelength from 360 nm to 540 nm, and the fluorescence lifetime is 200 ns.
As the wavelength-shifted fiber for short wavelength, BCF-92 manufactured by US Bicron, which is sensitive to fluorescence from 350 nm to 440 nm and converts the wavelength to fluorescence of 490 nm, is used. Further, as the wavelength shift fiber for long wavelength, Y-8 manufactured by Kuraray Co., Ltd., which is sensitive to fluorescence from 400 nm to 520 nm and converts the wavelength to fluorescence of 520 nm, is used. Regarding the thickness of the wavelength shift fiber, a square fiber having a length of 0.5 mm is used because the thickness of the phosphor sheet is 0.2 mm. The arranged wavelength shift fibers are connected one by one to the photodetector.
[0013]
Here, in this embodiment, a process in which the fluorescent light emitted from the phosphor is detected by two types of wavelength shift fibers will be described with reference to FIG. First, as shown in FIG. 2A, fluorescence of a wide wavelength range from 360 nm to 540 nm is generated from ZnS: Ag. This fluorescence is detected by a short wavelength shift fiber BCF-92 placed immediately below the phosphor. The absorption wavelength characteristic of BCF-92 is from 350 nm to 440 nm as shown in FIG. 2- (b), and the absorbed short wavelength fluorescence of ZnS: Ag has a peak at 440 nm as shown in FIG. 2- (c). And has a wavelength characteristic from 370 nm to 460 nm. On the other hand, the transmission wavelength characteristic of BCF-92 gradually increases from 420 nm as shown in FIG. 2D, and becomes constant at about 0.27 above 470 nm. Therefore, the fluorescence transmitted through the BCF-92 has a distribution as shown in FIG. As shown in FIG. 2F, the absorption characteristic of the wavelength-shifted fiber for long wavelength Y-8 arranged orthogonally below the BCF-92 has a peak at 460 nm and has a wavelength characteristic from 430 nm to 500 nm. The fluorescence finally absorbed by the long wavelength wavelength shifting fiber Y-8 has characteristics as shown in FIG.
[0014]
The amounts of fluorescence detected by the short wavelength shift fiber BCF-92 and the long wavelength shift fiber Y-8 are 32.8 and 16.1 as relative values, respectively, and are detected by the long wavelength shift fiber. In this embodiment, the fluorescence is about one half that of the short wavelength wavelength shifting fiber.
[0015]
As a photodetector for detecting fluorescence wavelength-shifted from the short-wavelength wavelength-shifting fiber BCF-92 and the long-wavelength wavelength-shifting fiber Y-8, H6568 manufactured by Hamamatsu Photonics, which is a 16-channel photomultiplier tube, is used. Can be. Each photoelectric signal output from the photomultiplier tube is amplified by a high-speed signal amplifier, and then converted into a digital pulse signal by a wave height discriminator to become an X-axis pulse signal and a Y-axis pulse signal. The two-dimensional incident position of the radiation is determined by performing the coincidence measurement of the X-axis pulse signal and the Y-axis pulse signal using a two coincidence circuit. The coincidence time (coincidence time) is 200 ns, which is the fluorescence lifetime of ZnS: Ag.

Third Embodiment FIG. 3 shows the structure of a two-dimensional neutron image detector according to the present invention as a second embodiment. In this embodiment, the phosphor Y is used as a neutron detection medium.2SiO5: Ce3+And neutron converter Li2 10B4O7Is used, and a neutron imaging sheet having a thickness of 0.4 mm manufactured by mixing is used. On the lower surface of the neutron imaging sheet, as shown in FIG. 3, a wavelength shift fiber for short wavelength and a wavelength shift fiber for long wavelength are arranged in parallel and arranged at right angles.
[0017]
Y2SiO5: Ce3+Has a fluorescence wavelength centered at 420 nm, generates fluorescence with a wide wavelength range from 370 nm to 600 nm, and has a fluorescence lifetime of about 40 ns.
As the wavelength shift fiber for short wavelength, BCF-99-33 manufactured by Bicron, which is sensitive to fluorescence from 320 nm to 420 nm and converts the wavelength to 450 nm fluorescence, is used. Further, as the wavelength shift fiber for long wavelength, Y-8 manufactured by Kuraray Co., Ltd., which is sensitive to fluorescence from 400 nm to 520 nm and converts the wavelength to fluorescence of 520 nm, is used. Since the thickness of the neutron detection medium is 0.4 mm, the thickness of the wavelength shift fiber is almost the same, and a square fiber having a length of 0.5 mm is used. The arranged wavelength shift fibers are connected one by one to the photodetector.
[0018]
Here, in this embodiment, a process in which the fluorescence emitted from the phosphor is detected by the two wavelength shift fibers will be described with reference to FIG. First, Y2SiO5: Ce3+As shown in FIG. 4A, fluorescence having a wide wavelength range from 360 nm to 540 nm is generated. This fluorescence is detected by a short wavelength shift fiber BCF-99-33 placed immediately below the phosphor. The absorption wavelength characteristic of BCF-99-33 is from 320 nm to 420 nm as shown in FIG.2SiO5: Ce3+The short wavelength side fluorescence has a peak at 400 nm as shown in FIG. 4C, and has a wavelength characteristic from 370 nm to 420 nm. On the other hand, the transmission wavelength characteristic of BCF-99-33 gradually increases from 400 nm as shown in FIG. 4D, and becomes constant at about 0.28 above 420 nm. Therefore, the fluorescence transmitted through BCF-99-33 has a distribution as shown in FIG. As shown in FIG. 4F, the absorption characteristic of the wavelength-shifted fiber for long wavelength Y-8 arranged orthogonally below the BCF-99-33 has a peak at 460 nm and a wavelength characteristic from 400 nm to 500 nm. Have. The fluorescence finally absorbed by the long-wavelength wavelength-shifting fiber Y-8 has characteristics as shown in FIG.
[0019]
The amounts of fluorescence detected by the short wavelength shift fiber BCF-92 and the long wavelength shift fiber Y-8 are 61.7 and 30.5, respectively, as relative values, and are detected by the long wavelength shift fiber. In this embodiment, the fluorescent light is about one half that of the short wavelength wavelength shifting fiber. In addition, it can be seen that the relative value is 1.5 to 2 times better than the phosphor ZnS: Ag of Example 1.
[0020]
The two-dimensional incidence position of the neutron is determined by performing the coincidence measurement of the X-axis pulse signal and the Y-axis pulse signal using a two coincidence circuit. The coincidence counting time (coincidence time) is Y2SiO5: Ce3+70 ns, which is about twice the fluorescence lifetime of
[0021]
Four square fibers BCF-99-33 each having a length of 0.5 mm are arranged in parallel, Y-8 is orthogonally arranged behind them, and the phosphor Y is disposed on the upper surface of the orthogonal part.2SiO5: Ce3+And neutron converter Li2 10B4O7For a neutron image detector on which a neutron imaging sheet having a thickness of 0.4 mm produced by mixing the above was arranged, a positional resolution confirmation test was performed using cold neutrons generated from a nuclear reactor. A cold neutron beam with an energy of 5 meV generated from a nuclear reactor is opened in a cadmium (Cd) layer having a thickness of 0.5 mm, and a hole having a diameter of 1 mm is formed therein. The diameter of the collimated cold neutron beam is 1 mm. This neutron beam was irradiated to the right corner of the neutron image detector, and the neutron image was measured. FIG. 5 shows the measurement results. From this result, the position resolution of the detector was determined to be 0.7 mm in the X-axis direction and 1.0 mm in the Y direction. It was confirmed that the fluorescence was more dispersed in the Y-axis disposed behind the wavelength-shifting fiber than in the X-axis direction in which the wavelength-shifting fiber was disposed immediately below, so that the resolution was slightly worse in the Y-axis. The position resolution in the X-axis direction corresponds to the approximate thickness of the wavelength shift fiber, and it has been confirmed that a neutron image can be detected with high position resolution. When the neutron energy was 5 meV, the detection efficiency for a 0.5 mm × 0.5 mm pixel was 13.3%.

In this embodiment, beta rays are detected as radiation, and a plastic scintillator commonly used as a phosphor for a beta ray detection medium is used. The thickness of the plastic scintillator is 1 mm, and p-Terphenyl is used as a short-wavelength phosphor as an organic phosphor, and POPOP is mixed with a plastic material as a long-wavelength phosphor as a plastic scintillator. On the lower surface of this plastic scintillator, as shown in FIG. 6, a wavelength shift fiber for short wavelength and a wavelength shift fiber for long wavelength are arranged in parallel and arranged at right angles.
[0023]
The center of the fluorescence wavelength of p-Terphenyl is 370 nm and generates fluorescence of a wavelength from 340 nm to 440 nm, and the center of the fluorescence wavelength of POPOP is 460 nm and generates the fluorescence of 420 nm to 550 nm. The fluorescence lifetime of the two organic phosphors is very short, less than 10 ns. In this embodiment, a plastic scintillator in which p-Terphenyl and POPO are mixed in the same amount will be described.
[0024]
As the wavelength shift fiber for short wavelength, BCF-99-33 manufactured by Bicron, which is sensitive to fluorescence from 320 nm to 420 nm and converts the wavelength to 450 nm fluorescence, is used. Further, as the wavelength shift fiber for long wavelength, Y-8 manufactured by Kuraray Co., Ltd., which is sensitive to fluorescence from 400 nm to 520 nm and converts the wavelength to fluorescence of 520 nm, is used. The arranged wavelength shift fibers are connected one by one to the photodetector.
[0025]
Regarding the thickness of the wavelength shift fiber, a square fiber having a length of 0.5 mm is used. The arranged wavelength shift fibers are connected one by one to the photodetector.
[0026]
Here, in this embodiment, a process in which fluorescence emitted from two kinds of phosphors in the plastic scintillator is detected by two kinds of wavelength shift fibers will be described with reference to FIG. First, as shown in FIG. 7A, fluorescent light having a wide wavelength range from 350 nm to 540 nm is generated from the plastic scintillator. This fluorescence is detected by a short wavelength shift fiber BCF-99-33 placed immediately below the phosphor. The absorption wavelength characteristic of BCF-99-33 is from 320 nm to 420 nm as shown in FIG. 7- (b), and the absorbed short-wavelength fluorescence of the plastic scintillator peaks at 400 nm as shown in FIG. 7- (c). And has a wavelength characteristic from 370 nm to 420 nm. On the other hand, the transmission wavelength characteristic of BCF-99-33 gradually increases from 400 nm as shown in FIG. 7D, and becomes constant at about 0.28 above 420 nm. Therefore, the fluorescence transmitted through BCF-99-33 has a distribution as shown in FIG. As shown in FIG. 7- (f), the absorption characteristic of the long-wavelength wavelength-shifted fiber Y-8 arranged orthogonally below the BCF-99-33 has a peak at 460 nm and a wavelength characteristic from 400 nm to 500 nm. Have. The fluorescence finally absorbed by the long-wavelength wavelength-shifting fiber Y-8 has characteristics as shown in FIG.
[0027]
The amounts of fluorescence detected by the wavelength shift fiber for short wavelength BCF-99-33 and the wavelength shift fiber for long wavelength Y-8 are 65.2 and 18.4 as relative values, respectively. In this example, the detected fluorescence was found to be about one third of the wavelength shift fiber for short wavelength.
[0028]
As a photodetector for detecting the fluorescence wavelength-shifted from the wavelength shift fiber BCF-99-33 for short wavelength and the wavelength shift fiber Y-8 for long wavelength, H6568 manufactured by Hamamatsu Photonics which is a 16-channel photomultiplier tube is used. Can be used. As the coincidence time (coincidence time), the fluorescence lifetime of the plastic scintillator is 10 ns.
[0029]
In this embodiment, beta rays are detected because of plastic scintillator. However, protons recoiled by high-energy neutrons can be efficiently measured, so that high-energy neutron imaging can be supported.
[0030]
For gamma rays, gamma ray imaging with improved sensitivity is also possible by mixing fine powder such as tin (Sn) having a large atomic number into the plastic scintillator.
[0031]
(Example 4)
Fourth Embodiment FIG. 8 shows the structure of a two-dimensional neutron image detector according to the present invention as a fourth embodiment. In this embodiment, the plastic scintillator commonly used as the phosphor for the beta ray detection medium described in the third embodiment is used. The thickness of the plastic scintillator is 1 mm, the organic phosphor is p-Terphenyl as a short-wavelength-side phosphor, the POPOP is a long-wavelength-side phosphor, and boron 10 (as a neutron converter).10The fine powder of B) is mixed with a 5% by weight plastic material to obtain a plastic scintillator. On the lower surface of this plastic scintillator, as shown in FIG. 8, a short-wavelength wavelength shift fiber and a long-wavelength wavelength shift fiber are arranged in parallel and arranged at right angles.
[0032]
In this plastic scintillator, the neutron is boron 10 (10By neutron capture reaction captured in B)4He and7Li is released, and the radiation generates fluorescence. The other embodiments and the signal generation process in the detector are the same as those in the third embodiment.

(Example 5)
FIG. 9 shows the structure of a two-dimensional radiation image detector according to the present invention as a fifth embodiment. In the present embodiment, gamma rays are detected as radiation, and YAP (YAlO) which is often used as a scintillator for gamma ray detection is used.3) Use a scintillator. The thickness of the YAP scintillator is 2 mm. As shown in FIG. 9, a wavelength shift plate is provided on the lower surface of the scintillator to shift a part of the emitted fluorescent light into fluorescent light having a longer wavelength. The short wavelength side fluorescence before the wavelength shift and the long wavelength fluorescence after the wavelength shift are emitted from the lower portion of the wavelength shift plate, and the short wavelength shift fiber and the long wavelength shift fiber are arranged in parallel in the order of Place at right angles.
[0034]
The center of the fluorescence wavelength of the YAP scintillator is 370 nm, and emits fluorescence with a wavelength from 320 nm to 420 nm, and the fluorescence lifetime is about 40 ns. As the wavelength shift plate, a BC-484 manufactured by Bicron having an absorption wavelength center of 380 nm and a fluorescence wavelength of 420 nm is used. The thickness is set to 0.4 mm in consideration of the conversion efficiency.
[0035]
As the wavelength shift fiber for short wavelength, BCF-99-85 manufactured by Bicron, which has sensitivity to fluorescence from 300 nm to 380 nm and converts the wavelength to fluorescence of 400 nm, is used. Further, as the long wavelength wavelength shift fiber, BCF-91 manufactured by Bicron, which is sensitive to fluorescence from 360 nm to 460 nm and converts the wavelength to fluorescence of 490 nm, is used. Regarding the thickness of the wavelength shift fiber, a square fiber having a length of 0.5 mm is used. Since the position resolution depends on the thickness of the YAP scintillator of 2 mm, every four wavelength-shifted fibers are connected to the photodetector every four to ensure the same width of 2 mm.
[0036]
Here, in this embodiment, YAP (YAlO32) The center wavelength of 370 nm fluorescence emitted from the YAP scintillator itself emitted from the wavelength shift plate BC-484 arranged on the lower surface of the scintillator, and the center wavelength of 420 nm fluorescence obtained by shifting a part of this fluorescence by the wavelength shift plate. The process of detection by the two wavelength shift fibers will be described with reference to FIG. First, as shown in FIG. 10A, the YAP scintillator emits fluorescence having a narrow wavelength from 320 nm to 420 nm. A part of the fluorescent light is converted by the wavelength shift plate BC-484 arranged on the lower surface, and becomes a fluorescent light in which fluorescent lights of almost the same intensity are combined as shown in FIG.
[0037]
This fluorescence is detected by a short wavelength wavelength shift fiber BCF-99-85 placed immediately below the phosphor. The absorption wavelength characteristic of BCF-99-85 is from 300 nm to 380 nm as shown in FIG. 10- (c), and the short-wavelength-side fluorescence mainly absorbed has a peak at 370 nm as shown in FIG. 10- (d). And has a wavelength characteristic from 320 nm to 420 nm. On the other hand, the transmission wavelength characteristic of BCF-99-85 gradually increases from 380 nm as shown in FIG. 10E, and becomes constant at about 0.28 above 420 nm. Therefore, the fluorescence transmitted through BCF-99-85 has a distribution as shown in FIG. As shown in FIG. 10- (g), the absorption characteristic of the long-wavelength wavelength-shifted fiber BCF-91 arranged orthogonally below the BCF-99-85 has a peak at 420 nm and a wavelength characteristic from 360 nm to 460 nm. Have. The fluorescence finally absorbed by the wavelength-shifted fiber for long wavelength BCF-91 has characteristics as shown in FIG.
[0038]
The amounts of fluorescence detected by the wavelength-shifting fiber for short wavelength BCF-99-85 and the wavelength-shifting fiber for long wavelength BCF-91 are 64.5 and 41.4 as relative values, respectively. It was found that the detected fluorescence was almost two thirds of the wavelength shift fiber for short wavelength in this embodiment.
[0039]
As a photodetector for detecting the fluorescence wavelength-shifted from the short-wavelength wavelength shift fiber BCF-99-85 and the long-wavelength wavelength shift fiber BCF-91, H6568 manufactured by Hamamatsu Photonics which is a 16-channel photomultiplier tube is used. Can be used. Each photoelectric signal output from the photomultiplier is amplified by a high-speed signal amplifier, and then converted into a digital pulse signal by a wave height discriminator to become an X-axis pulse signal and a Y-axis pulse signal. The two-dimensional incidence position of the gamma ray is determined by performing the coincidence measurement of the X-axis pulse signal and the Y-axis pulse signal using a two coincidence circuit. The coincidence time (coincidence time) is set to 70 ns, which is about twice the fluorescence lifetime of the YAP scintillator.
[0040]
(Example 6)
As Embodiment 6, FIG. 11 shows the structure of a two-dimensional neutron image detector according to the present invention. In this embodiment, the phosphor is YAP (YAlO).3) Powder and boron as neutron converter10Lithium tetraborate (Li2 10B4O7), and a neutron imaging sheet having a thickness of 0.2 mm prepared by mixing the two is used. As shown in FIG. 11, a wavelength shift plate is provided on the lower surface of the neutron imaging sheet to shift a part of the emitted fluorescent light to make the fluorescent light longer in wavelength.
[0041]
The center of the fluorescence wavelength of YAP is 370 nm, and emits fluorescence with a wavelength from 320 nm to 420 nm, and the fluorescence lifetime is about 40 ns. As the wavelength shift plate, a BC-484 manufactured by Bicron having an absorption wavelength center of 380 nm and a fluorescence wavelength of 420 nm is used. The thickness is 0.4 mm from the conversion efficiency. As the wavelength shift fiber for short wavelength, BCF-99-85 manufactured by Bicron, which has sensitivity to fluorescence from 300 nm to 380 nm and converts the wavelength to fluorescence of 400 nm, is used. As the wavelength-shifted fiber for long wavelength, BCF-91 manufactured by Bicron, which has sensitivity to fluorescence from 360 nm to 460 nm and converts the wavelength to fluorescence of 490 nm, is used. Regarding the thickness of the wavelength shift fiber, a square fiber having a length of 0.5 mm is used. Since the position resolution is the thickness of the neutron imaging sheet and the thickness of the wavelength shift plate, and 0.6 mm in the present embodiment, each of the arranged wavelength shift fibers is connected to a photodetector.
[0042]
The center wavelength 370 nm fluorescence emitted from the YAP itself coming out of the wavelength shift plate BC-484 disposed on the lower surface of the neutron imaging sheet and the center wavelength 420 nm fluorescence obtained by shifting a part of this fluorescence by the wavelength shift plate are 2 The process of detection by the two wavelength shift fibers is the same as in the fifth embodiment.
[0043]
(Example 7)
Embodiment 7 As Embodiment 7, an example in which the present invention is applied to a two-dimensional radiation image detector using ZnS: Ag which is commonly used as a phosphor for an alpha ray detection medium described in
[0044]
On the lower surface of a phosphor sheet in which ZnS: Ag is formed into a sheet having a thickness of 0.2 mm, as shown in FIG. 12, a wavelength shift fiber for short wavelength and a wavelength shift fiber for long wavelength are arranged in parallel and arranged at right angles. Thus, a two-dimensional radiation image detector is obtained.
Since the thickness of the phosphor sheet is 0.4 mm, the thickness of the wavelength shifting fiber is set to be substantially the same, and a square fiber having a length of 0.5 mm is used. The arranged wavelength shift fibers are connected one by one to the photodetector.
[0045]
As a photodetector for detecting fluorescence, H6568 manufactured by Hamamatsu Photonics, which is a 16-channel photomultiplier tube, can be used. In the present embodiment, a high-speed signal amplifier with a variable amplification degree function capable of changing the amplification degree is used as a high-speed signal amplifier for amplifying each photoelectric signal output from the photomultiplier tube. By lowering the amplification of the high-speed signal amplifier with the variable amplification function for the X-axis and increasing the amplification of the high-speed signal amplifier with the variable amplification function for the Y-axis, the signal is output from the wave height discriminators connected after these amplifiers. The amount of the digital pulse signal can be adjusted to be almost the same.
The two-dimensional incident position of the radiation is determined by performing the coincidence measurement of the X-axis pulse signal and the Y-axis pulse signal using a two coincidence circuit. By doing so, the detection sensitivity in the X-axis direction and the detection sensitivity in the Y-axis direction can be made the same, and as a result, the position resolution characteristics can be improved. The signal coincidence time (coincidence time) is 200 ns, which is the fluorescence lifetime of ZnS: Ag.
[0046]
In the present embodiment, the amount of fluorescence was made almost the same by changing the amplification degree of the short wavelength side and long wavelength side signal high-speed signal amplifiers. However, the bias voltage of the photomultiplier tube was adjusted and the peak voltage of the signal pulse was changed to the high-speed signal amplifier. The same effect can be obtained by making the same as the example of the change of the amplification degree of the above. Further, the same effect can be obtained by adjusting the wave height setting level of the short wavelength side and long wavelength side wave height discriminators.
[0047]
(Example 8)
In the eighth embodiment, the fluorescent light emitted from the short-wavelength-side fluorescence wavelength-shifted fiber is converted and emitted by the photodetector. In this example, the mixing ratio of the phosphor emitting short-wavelength fluorescence and the phosphor emitting long-wavelength fluorescence is changed to make the amount of the fluorescence signal output by detecting the fluorescence emitted by the photodetector approximately the same. A case where the present invention is applied to a plastic scintillator commonly used as a phosphor for a beta ray detection medium described in
[0048]
The thickness of the plastic scintillator is 1 mm, p-Terpheyl is used as the organic phosphor, and POPOP is used as the short-wavelength phosphor, and the long-wavelength phosphor is used as a plastic scintillator. In this embodiment, a plastic scintillator in which 25% of p-terphenyl and 75% of POPOP are mixed is manufactured.
[0049]
First, as shown in FIG. 13A, fluorescence having a wide wavelength range from 360 nm to 540 nm is generated from the plastic scintillator. Fluorescence of a wide wavelength range from 360 nm to 540 nm is generated. This fluorescence is detected by a short wavelength shift fiber BCF-99-33 placed immediately below the phosphor. The absorption wavelength characteristic of BCF-99-33 is from 320 nm to 420 nm as shown in FIG. 13- (b), and the absorbed short-wavelength fluorescence of the plastic scintillator peaks at 400 nm as shown in FIG. 13- (c). And has a wavelength characteristic from 370 nm to 420 nm. On the other hand, the transmission wavelength characteristic of BCF-99-33 gradually increases from 400 nm as shown in FIG. 13D, and becomes constant at about 0.28 above 420 nm. Therefore, the fluorescence transmitted through BCF-99-33 has a distribution as shown in FIG. As shown in FIG. 13- (f), the absorption characteristic of the wavelength-shifted fiber for long wavelength Y-8 arranged orthogonally below the BCF-99-33 has a peak at 460 nm and a wavelength characteristic from 400 nm to 500 nm. Have. The fluorescence finally absorbed by the long wavelength shift fiber Y-8 has characteristics as shown in FIG. 13- (g).
[0050]
The amounts of fluorescence detected by the short wavelength shift fiber BCF-99-33 and the long wavelength shift fiber Y-8 are 27.3 and 26.4 as relative values, respectively. It can be seen that the fluorescence detected by the wavelength shifting fiber for wavelength is almost the same as that of the wavelength shifting fiber for short wavelength.
[0051]
By making the light amounts in the X-axis direction and the Y-axis direction substantially the same as in this embodiment, the detection sensitivity in the X-axis direction and the Y-axis direction can be made the same, and as a result, the position resolution characteristics can be improved. Can be achieved.

As a ninth embodiment, a YAP (YAlO) often used as a gamma ray detecting scintillator described in the fifth embodiment is used.3An example of application to a scintillator will be described with reference to FIG.
[0053]
In the present embodiment, the fluorescence wave height signal output from the short-wavelength-side fluorescence wavelength-shifted fiber after being converted and emitted by the photodetector and emitted from the long-wavelength fluorescence wavelength-shifted fiber after being converted by the photodetector. The thickness of the wavelength shift plate is changed so that the amount of the fluorescent signal output by detecting the fluorescent light by the photodetector is substantially the same. From the thickness of the wavelength shift plate of 0.4 mm described in the fifth embodiment to 0.8 mm in the present embodiment.
[0054]
First, as shown in FIG. 14A, fluorescence having a narrow wavelength from 320 nm to 420 nm is generated from the YAP scintillator. A part of the fluorescent light is converted by the wavelength shift plate BC-484 arranged on the lower surface, and becomes a fluorescent light in which fluorescent lights of almost the same intensity are combined as shown in FIG.
[0055]
This fluorescence is detected by a short wavelength wavelength shift fiber BCF-99-85 placed immediately below the phosphor. The absorption wavelength characteristic of BCF-99-85 is from 300 nm to 380 nm as shown in FIG. 14- (c), and the short-wavelength-side fluorescence mainly absorbed has a peak at 370 nm as shown in FIG. 14- (d). And has a wavelength characteristic from 320 nm to 420 nm. On the other hand, the transmission wavelength characteristic of BCF-99-85 gradually increases from 380 nm as shown in FIG. 14- (e), and becomes constant at about 0.28 above 420 nm. Accordingly, the fluorescence transmitted through BCF-99-85 has a distribution as shown in FIG. As shown in FIG. 14- (g), the absorption characteristic of the wavelength-shifted fiber for long wavelength BCF-91 arranged orthogonally below the BCF-99-85 has a peak at 420 nm and a wavelength characteristic from 360 nm to 460 nm. Have. The fluorescence finally absorbed by the wavelength-shifted fiber for long wavelength BCF-91 has characteristics as shown in FIG.
[0056]
The fluorescence amounts detected by the short wavelength shift fiber BCF-99-85 and the long wavelength shift fiber BCF-91 are 46.0 and 40.2 as relative values, respectively. It can be seen that the fluorescence detected by the wavelength shift fiber for short wavelength is almost the same as that of the wavelength shift fiber for short wavelength.
[0057]
When determining the incident position on the X-axis and the incident position on the Y-axis as in the present embodiment, it is possible to improve the positional resolution of the X-axis and the Y-axis by making the amounts of fluorescence used for the determination substantially the same. Can be.
[0058]
(Example 10)
As a tenth embodiment, a two-dimensional alpha-ray image detector using ZnS: Ag commonly used as a phosphor for an alpha-ray detection medium described in the first embodiment will be described with reference to FIG.
[0059]
The fluorescence detection process using a 16-channel photomultiplier tube H6568 manufactured by Hamamatsu Photonics used as a photodetector is the same as in the first embodiment.
[0060]
Since ZnS: Ag has a very high fluorescence efficiency, when an alpha ray is incident, a plurality of wavelength-shifting fibers such as a short-wavelength-side wavelength shift fiber or a long-wavelength-side wavelength shift fiber which are arranged in parallel and close to the incident position are used. Fluorescence will be detected. In this case, it is necessary to discriminate which wavelength shift fiber the incident position is close to.
[0061]
Therefore, in the present invention, the fluorescence due to the incidence of alpha rays is wavelength-shifted by the short-wavelength-side wavelength shift fiber and the long-wavelength-side wavelength shift fiber, the fluorescence is detected by the photodetector, and the output photoelectric signal is discriminated in terms of wave height. After the digital pulse signal is converted into a digital pulse signal by the detector, two or more digital pulse signals at adjacent detection points are simultaneously counted by a coincidence circuit. In this embodiment, when two adjacent wavelength shift fibers of the short wavelength wavelength shift fiber and the long wavelength shift fiber are counted simultaneously, it is assumed that the alpha ray is incident on the center of the used signal. An example will be described.
[0062]
As shown in FIG. 15, when a digital pulse signal corresponding to each detection position on the X-axis and the Y-axis and a digital pulse signal adjacent to the digital pulse signal are subjected to coincidence measurement using two coincidence circuits and coincidence counting is performed. Is a position pulse signal in which neutrons are incident on a place corresponding to the center. Regarding the coincidence counting time, 200 ns which is the fluorescence lifetime of ZnS: Ag which is a phosphor is used.
[0063]
In this embodiment, two coincidence circuits are used for both the X and Y axes. However, the dual wavelength coincidence circuit is used only for the short wavelength side wavelength shift fiber having a large amount of fluorescence detection, that is, for the X axis, and the coincidence circuit is used for the Y axis. It is also possible to determine the position with a single line without using counting. Furthermore, when the amount of fluorescence is large, a three coincidence circuit can be used instead of a two coincidence circuit.
[0064]
(Example 11)
Embodiment 11 As Embodiment 11, an example in which the invention is applied to a plastic scintillator commonly used as a phosphor for a beta ray detection medium described in
[0065]
As an organic phosphor, p-Terphenyl is used as a short-wavelength-side phosphor, and POPOP is used as a long-wavelength-side phosphor, which is disposed below a plastic scintillator manufactured by mixing with a plastic material. A comparison is made between a circular wavelength shift fiber and a square wavelength shift fiber with respect to the amount of fluorescence transmitted through the shift fiber. In the case of the present plastic scintillator, BCF-99-33 manufactured by Bicron, which is sensitive to fluorescence from 320 nm to 420 nm and converts the wavelength to fluorescence of 450 nm, is used as the wavelength shifting fiber for short wavelength. FIG. 16 shows transmission characteristics of a circular BCF-99-33 wavelength shift fiber having a diameter of 0.5 mm and a square BCF-99-33 wavelength shift fiber having a side of 0.5 mm. Comparing the transmittance in the long wavelength band of 420 nm or more, it can be seen that the square wavelength shift fiber has 31% whereas the circular wavelength shift fiber has 6%. It can be seen that the transmission characteristics of the circular wavelength shift fiber are deteriorated by about 5 times. In the case of the present invention, in principle, the better the transmission characteristics in the long wavelength band, the better the detection performance. Therefore, it is essential to use a square wavelength shift fiber.
[0066]
(Example 12)
In the twelfth embodiment, gamma rays are detected as radiation described in the fifth embodiment, and YAP (YAlO) which is often used as a gamma ray detecting scintillator is used.3An example using a scintillator will be described with reference to FIG.
[0067]
The thickness of the YAP scintillator is 2 mm. As shown in FIG. 17, a wavelength shift plate is provided on the lower surface of the scintillator to shift a part of the emitted fluorescent light into fluorescent light having a longer wavelength. Different wavelength shifting fibers are arranged in parallel and at right angles.
[0068]
The center of the fluorescence wavelength of the YAP scintillator is 370 nm, and emits fluorescence with a wavelength from 320 nm to 420 nm, and the fluorescence lifetime is about 40 ns. As the wavelength shift plate, a BC-484 manufactured by Bicron having an absorption wavelength center of 380 nm and a fluorescence wavelength of 420 nm is used. The thickness is 0.4 mm from the conversion efficiency.
[0069]
Since the position resolution depends on the thickness of the YAP scintillator of 2 mm, every four wavelength-shifted fibers are connected to the photodetector every four to ensure the same width of 2 mm. The fluorescence detection process using a 16-channel photomultiplier tube H6568 manufactured by Hamamatsu Photonics used as a photodetector is the same as that in the fifth embodiment.
[0070]
In the present invention, a photomultiplier is arranged on the surface of the scintillator opposite to the side on which the short wavelength shift fiber and the long wavelength shift fiber are arranged, and the peak value of the radiation signal from the photomultiplier is determined. The measurement is performed together with the radiation incident position obtained by the short wavelength shift fiber and the long wavelength shift fiber. In this embodiment, a head-on type R1250 manufactured by Hamamatsu Photonics, which has a large light receiving area, is used as the photomultiplier tube. The diameter of this photomultiplier tube is 12.7 cm, and gamma ray imaging with a relatively large area as a sensitive area is possible. The pulse signal from the photomultiplier is amplified using a charge integration type preamplifier, and the amplified signal is amplified using a waveform shaping amplifier. As a preamplifier, ORTEC-113 manufactured by ORTEC in the United States can be used, and as a waveform shaping amplifier, ORTEC-671 or the like can be used.
The waveform shaping time constant of 0.25 μs is sufficient because the fluorescence lifetime of the YAP scintillator is about 40 ns. The gamma-ray pulse signal is extracted by a gate circuit that uses the neutron incident position signal obtained by the short wavelength shift fiber and the long wavelength shift fiber as the gate signal, subjected to wave height analysis by a multi-channel wave height analyzer, and incident on the gamma ray. By recording the position and the energy of the radiation in the storage device together with the position, a two-dimensional radiation image detector capable of simultaneously detecting the radiation incident position and its energy can be configured.
[0071]
(Example 13)
In Example 13, as the neutron detection medium described in Example 2, the phosphor Y2SiO5: Ce3+And neutron converter Li2 10B4O7An example in which the present invention is applied to a two-dimensional neutron image detector using a neutron imaging sheet having a thickness of 0.4 mm manufactured by mixing is described with reference to FIG.
[0072]
In this embodiment, the phosphor Y is used as a neutron detection medium.2SiO5: Ce3+And neutron converter Li2 10B4O7Is used, and a neutron imaging sheet having a thickness of 0.4 mm manufactured by mixing is used. On the upper and lower surfaces of the neutron imaging sheet, as shown in FIG. 18, a short wavelength wavelength shift fiber and a long wavelength shift fiber are arranged in parallel and arranged at right angles.
[0073]
The fluorescence detection process using a 16-channel photomultiplier tube H6568 manufactured by Hamamatsu Photonics used as a photodetector is the same as in the second embodiment.
[0074]
In the present invention, a photomultiplier tube is disposed on the surface of the neutron imaging sheet opposite to the side on which the short wavelength shift fiber and the long wavelength shift fiber are disposed, and the neutron signal wave from the photomultiplier tube is provided. The high value is measured together with the radiation incident position obtained by the wavelength shift fiber for short wavelength side detection and the wavelength shift fiber for long wavelength side. In this embodiment, a head-on type R1250 manufactured by Hamamatsu Photonics, which has a large light receiving area, is used as the photomultiplier tube. The diameter of this photomultiplier tube is 12.7 cm, and neutron imaging with a relatively large area as a sensitive area becomes possible.
[0075]
The pulse signal from the photomultiplier is amplified using a high-speed signal amplifier, and the amplified pulse signal is input to a pulse height discriminator, and only a peak value higher than a set signal level is taken out as a neutron discrimination signal. This neutron discrimination signal and the neutron incident position signal obtained by the short wavelength shift fiber and the long wavelength shift fiber are input to the coincidence circuit, and only when coincidence is performed, the neutron incident position signal is transmitted to the memory circuit. Record. The coincidence counting time (coincidence time) is Y2SiO5: Ce3+70 ns, which is about twice the fluorescence lifetime of By doing so, it is possible to eliminate the detection of the radiation that is the background.
[0076]
【The invention's effect】
In the present invention, the detection efficiency or the positional resolution is improved by using two types of wavelength-shifted fibers, selecting the type of phosphor or scintillator, and utilizing the efficiently generated fluorescent light, and the radiation generated by the detector constituent material. Alternatively, a remarkable effect peculiar to the present invention is obtained in that a two-dimensional radiation and neutron image detector using a phosphor or a scintillator with reduced influence of neutron absorption or reflection can be obtained. Also, there is an effect that a standard wavelength shift fiber can be used as it is.
