TECHNICAL FIELD OF THE INVENTION
An object of the present invention is to easily set a unique number of a recording apparatus.
[0002]
[Prior art]
Peripheral devices, such as recording devices, write predetermined numbers, characters, etc., in a non-volatile memory provided on an internal substrate at the time of assembly or inspection at a factory, read them out with a program, and code them as necessary. It was done by becoming.
[0003]
[Problems to be solved by the invention]
However, in the conventional example, it is relatively easy to perform the process in one specific process in a factory. In order to write the unique number of each unit in the nonvolatile memory, considerable equipment and labor were required.
[0004]
In addition, when a control board on which a nonvolatile memory is mounted is replaced due to a failure or the like, there is a problem that it is difficult to set unique numbers that do not overlap.
[0005]
[Means for Solving the Problems]
In the present invention, a means for setting a unique number and a means for reading and recognizing the recording apparatus are provided in order to solve the above problem, thereby providing a means for easily setting an individual unique number. is there.
[0006]
BEST MODE FOR CARRYING OUT THE INVENTION
(Embodiment 1)
In the recording apparatus, as an interface with a host computer, there are interfaces such as so-called Centronics, USB, and IEEE1394 conforming to IEEE1284.
[0007]
In recent years, when a recording apparatus is used, a method of connecting to a network directly or via a host computer has been increasing.
[0008]
In this case, for example, when a plurality of recording devices of the same model are used on a network, it is very convenient if each recording device has a unique number to specify which recording device.
[0009]
In particular, a unique number is actively assigned to a USB interface or an interface such as IEEE1394.
[0010]
It is an object of the present invention to easily set the unique number.
[0011]
FIG. 1 is a view showing a carriage unit of a serial printing type recording apparatus according to the present invention, wherein 1 is a carriage unit on which a recording head (not shown) is mounted and scans left and right, and 2 is a reflection type mounted on the carriage unit 1. The optical sensor 3 is a label sheet for designating a unique number, has a bar code printed thereon, and is attached to the exterior of the main body so as to face the optical sensor 2.
[0012]
FIG. 2 is an enlarged view showing that the label sheet 3 is a bar code.
[0013]
FIG. 3 is an enlarged view of an example in which the label sheet 3 is a dot matrix type number.
[0014]
FIG. 4 is an enlarged view of an example in which the label sheet 3 is a mark indicating the molding date and time often seen in a mold member or the like, and the date and time are indicated by the position of a clock hand.
[0015]
In addition, in the present embodiment, a label or the like on which a product serial number is generally written is often affixed to the exterior of the recording apparatus. Therefore, the label sheet is affixed to the exterior.
[0016]
In brief, the procedure of the process according to the present embodiment is as follows. When the power of the recording apparatus is turned on, the label is read by the sensor 2 while scanning the carriage left and right.
[0017]
In the example shown in FIG. 2, when a bar code is used and a unique number is directly entered, it is recognized and stored in a storage device in a processing unit inside the recording device.
[0018]
(3) For example, when an inquiry about the recording apparatus unique number is made from a host computer connected to the USB interface, the unique number stored in the procedure 2 is returned.
[0019]
In the above description, examples of three types of label sheets have been given. However, for example, when a unique number is set by molding or the like, the unevenness of the surface, the presence or absence of gloss, etc. , Etc.
[0020]
In the above description, what is read is the number (step 2). However, in the case of the unevenness of the molding surface or the presence or absence of gloss, the procedure for converting the number into a number after reading the reflection is described. May be required (needed between steps 2 and 3).
[0021]
In the description, the optical type is described, but it is needless to say that a magnetic type or an electrical type may be used.
[0022]
In the case where the setting and recognition means is mounted on a carriage as in the embodiment, reading can be performed by a print paper width sensor, a scanner unit, or the like.
[0023]
-A part of the linear encoder used for driving the carriage is changed to a "specific pattern" in the form of a bar code.
[0024]
The attachment and formation of the label sheet and the like do not need to be an exterior as in the example, but may be a control board, specific components, or the like.
[0025]
(Embodiment 2)
The recording device is bundled with individual documents such as a "warranty card" and a "user registration postcard" such as a document having a serial number for each product.
[0026]
For example, the readable unique number setting means as in the above embodiment is printed on an individual document for each product such as a "warranty card" or "user registration postcard", and this is printed on a recording device by a factory inspection process or by a user. The printer is set, and the unique number is recognized by reading with a reflection type sensor mounted on the carriage of the printing apparatus, and the nonvolatile storage means inside the printing apparatus (for example, EE-PROM, FLASHMEMORY, RAM backed by a battery, etc.) ), It is possible to set a unique number.
[0027]
In particular, in a recording device in which a scanner device can be incorporated, the present invention can be implemented without requiring any special means.
[0028]
【The invention's effect】
According to the present invention, since the recording device has the unique number setting means and the recognizing means, the unique number can be easily set without duplication, so that factory equipment and production cost can be reduced. A unique number can be set in the recording device.
[0029]
Further, in the present invention, even in the case where the data is stored in the non-volatile memory, it is not necessary to use factory equipment.
