本発明は、プリンタ、プロッタ、複写機等の粉体状のトナーを用いる電子写真プロセス方式の画像形成装置に用いるトナー回収装置に関し、特に回収ボトルを横長にして用いるものに関する。

【従来の技術及び発明が解決しようとする課題】
粉体状のトナーを用いる電子写真プロセス方式の画像形成装置においては、使用したトナーを回収するための装置を備えるものが多い。この種の装置のうち、縦長に回収ボトルを配置するものにおいては、回収トナーの自然落下によって、回収ボトル内にはある程度の均一性のあるトナーの山が形成され、回収ボトルを有効に使用してトナーを蓄積する事が可能である。

一方、画像形成装置の全体レイアウトによってどうしても横長の回収ボトルを用いる場合は、回収ボトルの長手方向に十分トナーを詰めるためには、搬送コイルなどを使用して、回収ボトル奥まで回収トナーを搬送することが必要である。現在の方式の1つに、パイプなどの中に搬送コイルを挿入し、パイプ片方端部を本体側板に固定する方持ち体制で搬送を行う機構がある。

本発明の請求項1に係るトナー回収装置は、上記目的を達成するために、粉体状のトナーを用いる電子写真プロセス方式の画像形成装置に用い、転写過程で発生する残トナーを回収するトナー回収装置において、長手方向に回収トナーを搬送する回収コイルと、該回収コイルを内部に収納保持する保持部材と、上記回収コイルの長手方向に沿って配置する回収ボトルとからなり、上記保持部材が、上記画像形成装置の装置本体の所定部位に非片持ち状態で取り付けるための取り付け部を有し、上記回収ボトルが、上記保持部材の下側を受ける部位を上部に有することを特徴とする。

【発明の実施の形態】
以下、本発明の実施の形態を図面を参照して説明する。なお以下では従来と共通する部分には共通する符号を付すにとどめ重複する説明は省略する。
図1は本発明に係るトナー回収装置の一実施形態を示す分解斜視図、図2は同側面図、図3は同正面図である。図中10はコイル保持部品で、装置本体1の本体ベース2の底面に複数のビス11・・・で固定してあり、この中に搬送コイルを設けて回収トナーを回収ボトル12内へ搬送する機構となっている。図中13はガイドレールで、回収ボトル12を出し入れする際に回収ボトル12をスムーズに挿入ガイドするための皿状のものである。

図4はコイル保持部品10の斜視図(A)、底面図(B)、部分破断側面図(C)である。コイル保持部品10は、トナー落下方向(図示の例では下方)に向けて図示のように複数の細長い穴14を明けてあり、この穴14からトナーが回収ボトル12内へ落ちる仕組みになっている。穴14の数は、回収ボトル12の長さにもより、設定される満杯条件によって個数の増減を行い、最適なトナー回収が行えるようにする。なお穴14は、図6に示す変形例のようにスリット状の穴14aでもよい。ただし、コイル保持部品10内に十分に搬送コイル5が保持できる、すなわち搬送コイル5がそこから飛び出ない幅のものであることが望ましい。

図5は回収ボトル12の平面図(A)及び側面断面図(C)である。回収ボトル12は、ガイドレール13によってスムーズにガイドされ得るように平面状に形成した底面を有するとともに、上面にはコイル保持部品10と嵌着するための溝15が長溝状に形成してある。コイル保持部品10の長さ(全長あるいは穴14を設けた部分の長さ)は、この溝15の長さ以下に設定することになる。またこの溝15の底面には、図示のように穴16が明けてあり、搬送コイル5によって搬送されてきた回収トナーT(搬送方向は図2や図4(C)において矢印tで示すように図の右から左方向である)が図2で示すように回収ボトル12の内部に蓄積される。なお、溝15に設ける穴16は、図7に示すようにスリット状の穴16aであってもよい。

さらに、回収ボトル12の挿入方向先端側(搬送コイル5によるトナー搬送上流側)には、画像形成装置への出し入れ時にコイル保持部品10からのトナーの落下を防ぐためにトナー受け17を設けてある。このトナー受け17によって、回収ボトル12の出し入れの時に落下する回収トナーの7割を受け止め、画像形成装置内への飛散を防ぐことができた。

【発明の効果】
本発明に係るトナー回収装置は、以上説明してきたように、長手方向に回収トナーを搬送する回収コイルと、この回収コイルを内部に収納保持する保持部材と、回収コイルの長手方向に沿って配置する回収ボトルとからなり、回収コイルの保持部材が、画像形成装置の装置本体の所定部位に非片持ち状態で取り付けるための取り付け部を有し、回収ボトルが、そのような保持部材の下側を受ける部位を上部に有する構成としたので、回収コイルの保持部材を取り付ける際の位置出しを行わなくても正確かつ容易に取り付けることが可能になり、また長期間の使用でもその位置が変わらないので回収ボトルの出し入れをいつでもスムーズに行えるようになるという効果がある。
