丸物材料であるハ゜イフ゜配管工事や、軸への部品取り付け作業は、必ず材料の回り止めが必要となる。このため1本のハ゜イフ゜レンチで回り止めを掛け、もう1本で締め付け若しくは緩めを行っている。この時回り止めに使うハ゜イフ゜レンチは、材料を持ち上げその下から口開きを上向きにして掛けなければならず、長尺物の場合は重く大変困難であった。
またせっかく掛けた回り止めのパイプレンチが横に倒れやすく、常に横倒れ防止のために、一方の手若しくは足で支えている必要があった。これによりもう1丁のパイプレンチで行なう締め付け若しくは緩める作業は、片手作業や不自然な姿勢の作業となり、力が入り難くやりづらい作業であった。
もし万一、横倒れした場合掴んでいた材料が空回りして、作業をしていたハ゜イフ゜レンチの空転により怪我を発生する危険が非常に高かった。

パイプレンチはその構造上,作動方向が一方方向であるため,締め付け作業と緩め作業は向きが相反するので,都度、2丁同時に掛け替えが必要となり大変面倒であった。
