従来から、スーパーマーケットやコンビニエンスストア等の店舗においては、冷蔵食品や生鮮食品等の冷蔵商品の陳列に、本体ケースの前面に商品取り出し用の開口を設け、その開口を冷気のエアカーテンで覆って庫内の陳列商品を保冷する冷蔵オープンショーケースが広く用いられている。
