The roll-shaped separator for a battery manufactured as described above is used in the battery assembly process.
Although the separator sheet is continuously used while being rewound, the following problems occur when the end (winding start end) of the sheet is reached. In other words, the end is attached and fixed to the core with the adhesive tape as described above. However, if the force of fixing the adhesive tape to the core is too strong, abnormal tension will be applied to the sheet when rewound to the end. On the contrary, if the fixing force to the core is too weak, the adhesive tape will come off from the core due to the tension and the adhesive tape will be attached to the separator sheet side. As a result, they are mixed in the product separator. When the separator sheet is deformed or damaged as in the former case, there are the following problems. For example, in a lead storage battery assembling process, the separator is used after being processed into a bag shape to wrap the electrode plate. In this packaging process, the separator sheet is cut into a size suitable for packaging by a semi-automatic or automatic packaging machine, then folded and sealed on both side edges, but if the separator sheet is deformed or damaged. However, good packaging is not performed, and the electrode plates are exposed from the bag, and as a result, the electrode plates come into contact with each other during battery assembly to cause a short circuit (electrical short circuit).
On the other hand, when the adhesive tape is mixed in the product separator as in the latter case, there are the following problems. That is, since the adhesive tape is incorporated into the battery while being attached to the separator, the tape base material and the adhesive component are deteriorated and eluted by dilute sulfuric acid which is the electrolytic solution of the lead acid battery or oxygen generated when the battery is used. There is concern that performance may be adversely affected.

BEST MODE FOR CARRYING OUT THE INVENTION A roll-shaped separator for a battery of the present invention comprises a tongue piece provided on the surface of the winding core and the winding core, the starting end of a long battery separator wound around the winding core. It is characterized by being sandwiched and fixed between them. The tongue is used for winding the battery separator so as not to apply abnormal tension or the like to the rewinding terminal end (winding starting end) of the battery separator sheet during continuous rewinding in the battery assembly process. The starting end is not particularly limited as long as it has a structure capable of being sandwiched between the tongue piece and the surface of the winding core.
The tongue piece may be fixed to both ends of the winding core with an adhesive agent or the like, but it is preferable that the starting end of the tongue piece is bonded or pressure-bonded in the axial direction of the winding core surface. Moreover, the said tongue piece can also use the separator sheet piece for batteries (product sheet piece). However, in the case where the battery separator sheet has a plurality of ribs extending along the longitudinal direction on one surface thereof, the following is preferable.
Usually, in the case of such a ribbed separator sheet, it is wound around the core so that the rib surface is face up.When using the same ribbed separator sheet piece as the tongue piece, the tongue piece is Considering the frictional force between the separator sheet and the separator sheet, it is preferable that the tongue, which is a ribbed sheet, is also fixed to the surface of the core with the rib surface facing upward. In other words, when the rib surface of the tongue piece that is a ribbed sheet is fixed with the rib surface facing down, when one end of the separator sheet is inserted under the tongue piece, the rib surface of the tongue piece and the separator sheet mutually Since the ribs come into contact with each other, only the rib portions of both of them come into contact with each other, so that the contact area between the two becomes remarkably small and a good friction force cannot be obtained. Therefore, the separator sheet is likely to come off at the start of winding the separator sheet, and the workability of winding the separator sheet is deteriorated. The plurality of ribs provided on the battery separator differ depending on the type of battery in which the separator is incorporated, but generally have a width of 0.3 mm.
.About.1.5 mm, height 0.3 to 1.5 mm, and formed at intervals of about 10 mm in the width direction. The length of the tongue piece is preferably 1/10 or more of the length of the outer circumference of the winding core and less than or equal to the length of the outer circumference of the winding core. This is because when the length of the tongue is less than 1/10 of the outer circumference of the winding core, the force with which the battery separator sheet is sandwiched between the tongues becomes weak, and the battery separator sheet is wound at the start of winding. This is because the separator for use becomes easy to come off. As long as the start end of the battery separator sheet can be properly sandwiched at the start of winding, after the continuous winding is started, the sandwiching part at the start end is wound by the winding tension of the sheet. The pressure is strongly applied from the top, so the starting end does not come off easily. If the length of the tongue piece exceeds the outer circumference of the winding core, the work of sandwiching the battery separator between the tongue piece and the winding core becomes difficult, which is time-consuming, which is not preferable. The width of the tongue fixed to the surface of the winding core is not particularly limited, but when the width of the wound battery separator is 100 to 200 mm, it may be 50 mm or more and not more than the width of the separator. preferable. This is because if the width of the tongue piece is less than 50 mm, the force with which the battery separator sheet is sandwiched by the tongue pieces becomes weak, and the battery separator is likely to come off when the winding of the battery separator is started. Also, when the width of the tongue exceeds the width of the winding core, the tongue sticks out from the roll end of the rolled separator for battery after winding, which is external, storage and easy to use. Not preferable.

EXAMPLES Examples of the present invention will be described in detail below. Width 170 mm, outer diameter 276 mm, core outer circumference 8 composed of polyethylene-coated kraft paper
On the surface of a 67 mm cylindrical winding core, one end of a tongue piece having a width of 100 mm, a length of 200 mm, and a thickness of 0.25 mm made of a polyethylene porous film battery separator sheet described below was fixed with an adhesive tape, Width 150 mm, length 50 made of polyethylene porous film between tongue and core
A long battery separator sheet having a thickness of m and a thickness of 0.25 mm (composition sheet mainly consisting of polyethylene resin, inorganic powder, and paraffin oil) was sandwiched and wound to produce a battery roll-shaped separator. A battery was assembled by continuously rewinding this roll separator for batteries, but because the end of rewinding (winding end) of the separator was not directly fixed to the core, The end of the winding can be easily removed from the winding core without applying an unusual load such as tension to the end of rewinding (starting end of winding) unlike when the winding start end is directly fixed to the surface of the winding core. As a result, the battery separator could be assembled without deforming or damaging the battery separator, lowering the workability of the battery assembly and causing a battery short circuit. In addition, it is not done to fix the winding start end directly to the surface of the winding core with an adhesive tape or the like, so it is possible to accidentally mix the adhesive tape with the battery separator into the battery. It didn't happen.

As described above, according to the roll-shaped separator for a battery of the present invention, when the continuous rewinding is used in the battery assembling process, an abnormal tension or the like is generated at the rewinding end (winding start end). Since the terminal end can be removed from the winding core without applying a load, the battery separator is not deformed or damaged, the battery assembling workability is not deteriorated, and the battery is not short-circuited. Further, since the winding start end is not fixed to the core with an adhesive tape or the like, the adhesive tape is erroneously mixed in the battery while being attached to the battery separator in the battery assembling process, and battery performance is improved. There is no adverse effect.
