Abstract

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a chip collector for a tip dresser which has simple structure, can be miniaturized, and is excellent in versatility. SOLUTION: A dresser body 6a is sidewise installed, a chip capturing case 12A is fitted to the tip thereof, chips generated when shaping electrode tips are captured within a case, and discharged into a chip collection vessel 13 from a chip outlet 12g opened in a lower part of the case. A pair of electrode tips facing each other held by a tip of a welding gun are advanced horizontally from the direction of an arrow. Tip insertion surfaces 12a and 12b with a tip insertion port 12c for permitting the insertion of the electrode tips of the chip capturing case 12A opened therein are formed in a wedge shape expanding in the direction from a front end position to a rear end position with respect to the advancing direction of the welding gun, and thus, the electrode tips can be smoothly led to the tip insertion port 12c without expanding the space between the electrode tips than required.

2. Description of the Related Art Conventionally, an electrode tip used for spot welding or the like is worn (deformed or worn) when the welding operation is repeated. If the welding work is performed with the worn electrode tip, the desired welding quality cannot be obtained. Therefore, the electrode tip is periodically shaped (dressing) to maintain the welding quality.

For example, in Japanese Utility Model Publication No. 3-18067, by mounting a cover body on the dresser body, an air introduction path and an air discharge path are provided between the cover body and the upper and lower surfaces of the dresser body. The compressed air after forming and driving the shaped body held in the holder is guided to the holder through the air introduction path, and the compressed air that has passed through the holder is also guided through the air discharge path to the end portion of the cover body. There is disclosed a technique of collecting chips generated in chip polishing or grinding into a chip collection container by guiding the chips to a chip collection container connected to the chip.

In this case, since the dresser body 6a is supported with the table surfaces 6c and 6d standing upright, the chips generated when shaping the electrode tips 4 and 5 are the table surfaces 6c and 6d. From the gap formed by the inner peripheral surface of the chip capturing case 12B, the chips are dropped downward, and the dropped chips are converged along the chip guide surface 12f formed in the lower part of the chip capturing case 12B. The chips are then collected from the chip discharge port 12g and accumulated in the chip collection container 13 installed below the chip discharge port 12g.

As described above, according to this embodiment, the table surfaces 6c and 6d of the dresser body 6a are erected, and the periphery of the holder portion 6b holding the shaping body 7 is covered with the chip capturing case 12B. Therefore, the cutting chips generated when shaping the electrode tips 4 and 5 can be dropped and collected from both table surfaces 6c and 6d sides of the dresser body 6a. The structure of 11 is simplified, and it is possible to realize lightweight and compactness.

Further, since the chip insertion surfaces 12a and 12b of the chip catching case 12B are formed in a wedge shape that expands from the front end position toward the rear end position with respect to the approaching direction of the welding gun 1, both gun arms 2 and 3 are formed. Since it is possible to smoothly guide the electrode tips 4 and 5 held in the tip to the tip insertion opening 12c without unnecessarily widening them, workability is improved.
Therefore, for example, even with an X-type welding gun in which the distance between the pair of electrode tips 4 and 5 cannot be increased too much, the electrode tips 4 and 5 can be smoothly guided to the tip insertion opening 12c.
