。DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE INVENTION
Apparatus and method for multipoint DSL modem
Background of the Invention
Field of the invention
The present invention is generally applied to a case where a plurality of modems connected to one subscriber line
At the central office end of the subscriber line to allow simultaneous communication with a single modem.
Placement and method.
Related technology background
Data communication on a subscriber line is commonly called DSL (Digital Subscriber Line)
. Examples of DSL technologies include ADSL, RADSL, HDSL, and basic ISDN.
There is. Only one DSL modem works at each end of the prior art subscriber line
No workaround for multiple working DSL modems at either end
In that regard, all prior art DSL communications are point-to-point. Physical layer
Transmission is continuous, decoupled from higher layers, and independent of higher layers
are doing.
In the prior art, a dedicated line voice modem communicates with multiple remote modems.
Some support central modems: a concept called "4-wire multipoint communication"
is there. One example of such a modem is the industry standard ITU V. 27b
This is a modem that compiles with is. 4 communication channels for each remote modem
With a wire connection, the modems are generally widely dispersed geographically.
Similarly, prior art dial line voice modems communicate with multiple remote modems
Some support one central-side modem, which is called "2-wire PTSN communication"
It is a concept called. The communication and channel for each remote modem is a two-wire connection.
In general, modems are widely and geographically dispersed. The physical layer is partially double
Yes, and the data protocol is also partially duplicated.
In the case of the above prior art voice modems, both are a central modem and a remote modem.
Is not present at both ends of one subscriber loop, and the communication / channel is a 4-wire backbone.
It is important that a circuit is included.
In the case of dial line prior art, central modem transmission is controlled by the connected central side.
It is a computer and an industrial standard ITU V. 27 Described in CT105
Control the start and end of transmission using non-data control signals such as;
It is the connected remote computer that controls the communication and is controlled by the industry standard ITU V. 27
Use a non-data control signal as described in CT 105 to start and end transmission.
Control the termination. In the leased line prior art, the central transmission is continuous and the remote transmission is
Is controlled as in the case of In both cases, depending on the connected computer
For example, ITU. 27 Reception via CT109
By monitoring the end of the transmitted signal and delaying the CT 105 according to the situation, transmission
It is necessary to avoid that.
Of particular note above are prior art voice modems and communications for multiple remote users.
The communication was not on the subscriber line and was connected via a non-data interface
Including transmission protocols from multiple computers.
Another prior art is Ethernet local area network communication
Yes, where the physical channel can be a short two-wire channel, but never
It never becomes a line. Here we get the transmission directly from the upper layer data protocol,
Due to the lack of central control, signals may collide. Special upper layer data
Protocols need to cope with the deleterious consequences of collisions.
Another aspect of the prior art is the Internet Task Force (IETF) specification.
