Abstract

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a two-step press-fitting connector of low cost and superior user workability, which can not only prevent buckling troubles of a terminal, if it has a header connector to be mounted on a board mainly for a switchboard, a transmission equipment or the like is fitted in a shroud. SOLUTION: The connector is structured, first with a base body 10 of a metal terminal 8 and its tapered tip part 9, and secondly, with a shroud 2 equipped with insertion holes 4, consisting of broad guide holes 5 of a tapered shape and metal terminal holding parts 6 of size smaller than those of the base bodies 10 arrayed in parallel. Thirdly, after the metal terminals 8, protruding toward a board side of the header connectors 7, are inserted stably to a fixed depth into the insertion holes 4 consisting of the broad guide holes 5 of a tapered shape and the metal terminal holding parts 6 smaller in size than the base bodies 10, and they are press fitted with a press-fitting head jig, so that the base bodies 10 of the metal terminals are held by and fitted with the metal terminal holding parts 6.

BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION 1. Field of the Invention The present invention relates to a header connector mainly mounted on a board of an exchange or a transmission device, which is fitted to a shroud (an insulator such as a wall provided for protecting and guiding a contact). The present invention relates to a two-stage press-fit connector which not only prevents terminal buckling accidents but also is inexpensive, has good workability for users, has a stable holding force, and has excellent long-term reliability.

The problem to be solved for each of these methods is that the first two-piece method has a high component cost. There was a problem that the work was troublesome twice. Further, in the second straight terminal method, the terminal is not sufficiently looked into at the time of temporary insertion, so that the position of the press-fit head is hard to come out, and the terminal buckles. In addition, there is a problem that the shroud tends to come off. The last taper terminal method has a disadvantage that the position of the shroud is not stable because the shroud is gradually tightened when the shroud is temporarily inserted, and the shroud interferes with the press-fitting head jig to easily break the connector.

According to the present invention, as a result of diligent studies to solve these problems, firstly, the metal terminal 8 protruding toward the substrate side of the header connector 7 is formed by the base portion of the metal terminal. Secondly, the shroud 2 which is the mating partner is provided with a tapered wide guide hole 5 and a metal terminal base 10 smaller than and parallel to the shroud 2. Thirdly, the metal terminal 8 protruding toward the substrate side of the header connector 7 including the base portion 10 of the metal terminal and the tip portion 9 made thinner than the metal terminal holding portion 6 is provided. The insertion is made to a certain depth in an insertion hole 8 formed of a tapered wide guide hole 5 formed in the shroud 2 and a metal terminal holding portion 6 which is smaller than the dimensions of the base portion 10 of the metal terminal and is formed in parallel. After that, insert the press-fit head jig 12 The two-stage press-fit type connector in which the base portion 10 of the metal terminal is held by the metal terminal holding portion 6 to be fitted by being inserted.

FIG. 1A is a cross-sectional view of a two-stage press-fit connector 1 of the present invention as viewed from the side. A metal terminal 8 comprising a base portion 10 of a metal terminal and a tip portion 9 which is thinner than the base portion 10 is formed by a shroud. 2 is an explanatory view showing a stepwise state until the press-fitting is completed by being press-fitted into the insertion hole 4 formed by the tapered wide guide hole 5 and the metal terminal holding portion 6 provided in FIG. FIG. 2 is an exploded perspective view of the two-stage press-fit connector 1 of FIG. As is clear from the figure, first, the metal terminal 8 protruding toward the substrate side of the header connector 7 has a structure including a base portion 10 of the metal terminal and a tip portion 9 which is thinner than the base portion. Next, a structure in which a shroud 2 which is a mating partner is provided with an insertion hole 8 formed of a tapered wide guide hole 5 and a metal terminal holding portion 6 which is smaller than the dimensions of the base portion 10 of the metal terminal and is provided in parallel. It is. Finally, the metal terminal 8 protruding toward the substrate side of the header connector 7 comprising the base part 10 of the metal terminal and the tip part 9 made thinner than the base part 10 is formed into a tapered wide guide hole 5 formed in the shroud 2.
After inserting the metal terminal into the insertion hole 8 having a size smaller than that of the base portion 10 of the metal terminal and being parallel to the metal terminal holding portion 6 and stabilizing the insertion hole 8, the press-fit head jig 12 is inserted. This is a two-stage press-fit type connector in which the base portion 10 of the metal terminal is held by the metal terminal holding portion 6 and fitted by press-fitting.
A typical PBT (polybutylene terephthalate) resin or LCP (liquid crystal polymer) resin was used as an insulator of the shroud 2, and a typical copper alloy (treatment: partial gold plating) was used as a metal terminal. Next, as the first stage of the press-fitting state of the present invention, the shroud 2 is manually inserted into the header connector 7 inserted into the board 11 from above. In the second stage, the press-fitting head jig 12 is inserted with the shroud 2 inserted to a certain depth and stabilized.
And press-fit. As the third stage, the press-fitting is completed. In this case, since the press-fitting uses only the non-contact surface of the terminal, the contact surface is not damaged. Further, since the base portion 10 of the metal terminal is slightly larger in size than the metal terminal holding portion 6, it is held by the metal terminal holding portion 6, and a stable holding force can be obtained. Fig. 1 (c)
FIG. 2 is a cross-sectional view from the side when the two-stage press-fit connector 1 of the present invention is fitted to the receptacle connector 15, and is an explanatory view showing an actual mounting state. As is clear from the figure, two receptacle connectors 15 are mounted on the two-stage press-fit connector 1 of the present invention.

[0007] Because of the above structure, the second aspect of the present invention.
A reliability test (thermal shock test, temperature and humidity cycle test, high-temperature creep, terminal holding force) was performed on the step-fit connector 1 and the conventional product.
The results were as good or better.
