As shown in the perspective view of FIG. 2A, a minute mirror M corresponding to each pixel is two-dimensionally arranged, and a mirror M 'at a predetermined address is tilted about a diagonal line, thereby obtaining a mirror M'.
A two-dimensional pattern is displayed by reflecting light incident from a certain direction on a mirror in a direction different from that of a mirror that is not tilted (see IEEE Spectrum Vol. 30,
No. 11, pp. 27-31). FIG. 5B shows a supporting and driving structure of each mirror M. Each of the mirrors M has a pair of supporting posts P set up on the silicon substrate S at one diagonal corner.
By applying a voltage to one of a pair of electrodes E provided on a substrate S on the back side of the mirror M, the diagonal line between the hinges T is axially moved by electrostatic force. Then, the surface of the mirror M is rotated.

Light 14 whose incident angle changes is incident on a transmission type volume hologram 11 composed of uniform and parallel planar interference fringes.
The light is converted into R, G, and B light sequentially using the fact that the wavelength diffracted in the D1 direction changes according to the incident angle θ of the incident light.

It can be seen that the angle of incidence on the MD1 changes according to the color conversion of about ± 2.5 °, but this change does not matter if the aperture of the projection lens 7 is large to some extent. In addition, a problem occurs when the illumination light 15 does not enter a part of the DMD 1 due to the angle variation.
What is necessary is just to make the diameter of the illumination light 15 sufficiently large. In addition, since the incident light 14 does not enter a part of the transmission type volume hologram 11 due to the reciprocating rotation of the galvanometer mirror 10, the same problem occurs.
The diameter of the galvanomirror 10 and the diameter of the parallel light 13 may be made sufficiently large. Alternatively, galvanometer mirror 10
An optical system that conjugates the two may be inserted between the transmission type volume hologram 11 and the transmission type volume hologram 11.

Is fixed, and the color of the diffracted light 15 is sequentially converted into R, G, and B in a time-division manner by changing the incident angle of the incident light 14 thereon. The transmission type volume hologram 11 may be rotated back and forth with the direction fixed. Alternatively, the direction of the incident light 14 may be made movable and the transmission-type volume hologram 11 may be reciprocally rotated synchronously.
