Typically, a medium or large facility operates a private telecommunications network. In such a network, the PBX (Private Branch Exchange) can be connected by a dedicated private link. However, public telecommunications operators (PTOs) are increasingly providing virtual private networks (VPNs) for this purpose. Within a facility that uses a private or virtual private network, individuals generally have two telephone numbers: a "public" number that the caller uses from outside the facility (a publicly known number) and a private number. It will have a private number (a number that is not privately known) used within the network. According to a first aspect of the present invention, there is provided a method of operating a telecommunications network, comprising: a) setting, at a calling side, the value of a public / private parameter of a calling number; b) over a signaling channel. Publication of a public calling party number, a private calling party number, and a calling party number from a first network node connected to the calling party to a second network node connected to the called party And / or sending private parameters; and c) at the second node, depending on the value of the public / private parameters of the calling party number, either a publicly developed calling party number or a private calling party number. Operating a telecommunications network that includes forwarding the call forward to a called party. The public / private parameters can be set for each call by the calling party, for example, by dialing a predetermined code at the user terminal. Alternatively, this parameter can be set by the PBX system administrator at the calling site, for example, by programming a selection of public / private parameters to be used for all calls from the PBX. It will be understood that all references herein to setting public / private parameters by the caller include both possibilities. The present invention provides for the first time a system in which a user can control which of a private network number and a public network number are available to a called party. This significantly enhances the functionality of the network and has particular value for public networks used to support VPN. The invention can be used in connection with ancillary services such as, for example, Completion of Call to Busy Subscribers (CCBS). By properly setting the CLI public / private parameters, the originating caller can determine whether the call is completed using a private or public network. Similarly, public / private parameters can be used to control other services that use the CLI. As used herein, the term "node" includes both local exchanges in the core network and PBXs connected to the core network via the access network. For example, the second node may be a PBX directly connected to the called party. However, if the access network does not support including two CLI numbers in the signaling channel, for example when the access network uses DSS1 (Digital Signaling System no. 1), the second node is a local exchange, where Selects the appropriate number to send to the PBX, while removing the public / private parameters. The signaling channel may be carried in a public network using ISDN user side (ISUP) signaling. Preferably, one of the private CLI and the public CLI is encapsulated and transmitted on the signaling channel between the first node and the second node. A preferred feature of the invention is that both numbers can be transmitted throughout the network without having to significantly change the network signaling protocol. This is achieved, for example, by encapsulating one number in the data field of the transport parameter. According to a second aspect of the present invention, there is provided a method of operating a telecommunications network, comprising: a) setting a value of a public / private parameter of a called number (CdPN) at a calling side; b) a signaling channel. Above, from a first network node connected to the calling party to a second network node connected to the called party, a public called number, a private called number, and a called number. Sending (CdPN) public / private parameters; and c) in an access network connected to one or the other of the first and second networks, depending on the value of the CdPN public / private parameters: A method of operating a telecommunications network that includes routing a call using a public or private called number. In this aspect of the invention, the user can control how the call is routed. The signaling channel carries both public and private called party numbers. Therefore, public / private parameters are set to determine which parameters to use to route the call. Although the method of the second aspect can be used independently of the method of the first aspect, it is highly preferred to use the two aspects in combination. Thus, preferably, a single multi-bit parameter is sent on the signaling channel, and the different bits of the multi-bit parameter are a CLI public / private parameter flag and a CdPN public / private parameter flag, respectively. The present invention is directed to a network configured to operate in accordance with the first and / or second aspects described above, switches and signaling devices such as PBXs and local exchanges in such networks, and Also includes network signaling incorporating public / private parameters defined in. The system implementing the present invention will now be described by way of example in more detail with reference to the accompanying drawings. FIG. 1 is a diagram showing a network for implementing the present invention. FIG. 2 is a diagram illustrating the format of public / private parameters sent on a signaling channel in the network of FIG. FIG. 3 is a diagram illustrating the QSIG protocol stack. FIG. 4 is a diagram showing a format of the APP transfer parameter. FIG. 5 is a flowchart of a call. FIG. 6 shows a software architecture constituting the network of FIG. FIG. 7 shows a platform constituting the network of FIG. FIG. 8 shows a flowchart of the software elements of FIG. The telecommunications system includes a core network 1. Customer terminals 2a, 2b are connected to core network 1 by local exchanges LE1, LE2 and access networks 3, 4. The access network to the first local exchange LE1 supports the Q Interface Signaling Protocol (QSIG) signaling channel between the local exchange LE1 and the PBX 5. In particular, the channel uses the ISO version of QSIG known as PSS1 (Private Signaling System no. 1). The access network to the second local exchange LE2 is a DSS1 (Digital Signaling System no.1) signal augmented by an application transport parameter APP, as described in more detail below. Support protocol. PBX 6 is connected to a second local exchange LE2 via an access network. Within the core network, signaling is carried using an ISUP (ISDN user side) signaling channel. ISUP signaling incorporates APP parameters, which are used to include the features of the local access signaling channel and send them transparently over the network. In this manner, a virtual private network VPN is configured using the core network. The virtual private network VPN incorporates two PBXs and has its own private numbering scheme. Further, the PBX and the customer terminal connected to the PBX have a public telephone number. It will be appreciated that the above signaling protocol has been described by way of example only and that alternative signaling methods may be used. In use, when a calling party at a first terminal TE1 wishes to call a called party with a second terminal TE2 connected to a second PBX, the first PBX goes to the local exchange LE1. Open the QSIG signaling channel. It establishes and progresses the call using the conventional QSIG protocol, except that the public / private parameters are sent to the local exchange LE1. FIG. 3 shows a stack of a conventional QSIG protocol. Since the signaling interface is defined with reference to a logical reference point, a protocol stack can be configured for different physical interfaces including both copper and fiber optics. FIG. 2 shows the format of the public / private parameters contained in layer 3a of this protocol stack. The data sent on the signaling channel to the local exchange LE2 may for example include the private number of the called party. Furthermore, the first PBX inserts PPP parameters into the signaling stream. As shown, this is an 8-bit parameter. In this example, bit 2 sets this value to indicate that the calling party has chosen to set up a route in the private CdPN (called party number). At the local exchange, the private CdPN received from the PBX is converted to a corresponding public number. It is carried openly in ISUP signaling and is used to route calls through the core network. Private numbers, and PPP parameters are not used in the core network, but are sent throughout the network using APP parameters in ISUP signaling. FIG. 4 shows a format of the APP parameter. This parameter represents an addition to the ISUP, which can be used to carry QSIG information elements (IEs) and other application specific data. Use the Application Context Identifier field to identify the nature of the encapsulated data. In this case, the data is PPP parameters and private CdPN. The data itself is then sent in parameter bytes 4a to 4n. This data is delivered transparently from the ISUP channel to the destination local exchange LE2 through the core network. The use of the PPP parameters and associated data at the destination local exchange LE2 depends on the signaling channel's ability to link the local exchange to the destination PBX. For example, the access network can use normal DS S1 signaling. This supports the routing of private numbers, but only supports a limited range of additional network functions, and in particular cannot accommodate PPP parameters. Thus, in this case, the destination local exchange will be responsible for removing the PPP parameters and sending the selected CdPN, ie private CdPN, to the PABX via the DSS1 signaling channel. The destination exchange selects the appropriate one of the calling party's private and public CLI (Calling Line Identifier) and sends it to the PBX as the CLI. Which public and private CLI selection is valid is determined by the PPP parameters of bits 3 and 4 written by the destination PBX. In the example shown in FIG. 1, the signaling channel is improved in the local access network of the destination local exchange to support the transmission of PPP and related data. The signaling protocol is modified by adding the APP transport parameters described above for using the ISUP signaling channel in the core network. In the context of the present invention, an important property of the modified DSS1 protocol is that it allows the transmission of PPP parameters and associated data to the terminating PBX via the access network. The PPP and associated data are sent in the data fields of the APP transport parameters. The terminating PBX then reads the PPP data and sends either the public or private CLI to the called terminal, depending on the value of bits 3 and 4 in the public / private parameters. FIG. 5 shows a call flow on a signaling channel between different switches in the above example. Send a SET UP message from the source PBX to the first local exchange, generate an initial address message and send it forward. In the usual manner, once the setup procedure is completed, a circuit for a voice or data call is set up between the calling and called parties. Within the core network, it is assumed that calls between the source local exchange and the destination exchange are routed via the transition exchange TE. The shaded parameters are sent via the application transport parameters APP. It can be seen that this parameter includes the calling and called party subaddresses, as well as the PPP parameters. In this example, the APP parameters were used in the configuration message, but may be used in other contexts, for example, an ALERT, RELEASE COMPLERE, CONNECT, and DISCONNECT message. FIG. 6 shows the software architecture used to implement the invention in this example. At the source and destination local exchanges, the VPN processing module is interfaced to the signaling interface via the call control module. At the originating local exchange, additional call control procedures are added to the VPN module. These additional features include the following two functions: 1) Converting a private number into a public calling and called party number; and 2) Converting the private number into an application transport parameter (APP). Perform encapsulation. FIG. 8 is a flow chart illustrating these additional call features. In step S1, the incoming private number is read. In step S2, the incoming private number is addressed using a look-up table. The look-up table is stored locally at the exchange and maps the private number to a public numbering system used by the core network. If no corresponding public number is found in step S3, the procedure ends. Otherwise, the publication number is written in the CdPN ISUP field. In step S6, the private CdPN is written into the data field of the APP. Further, in step S7, the application context identifier of the APP is set to indicate that the parameter includes the QSIG data. The procedure ends in step S8, at which point the VPN returns to the normal call setup procedure. The transit exchange simply forwards all received information forward. An additional function of the VPN is to map the parameters received at the destination exchange to the equivalent in the output DSSI_APP channel. When the APP parameter is not used in the DSSI_APP channel, it is necessary to discard the private encapsulated parameter received by the destination exchange. The encapsulation mechanism described above can carry two private calling number or other PBX specific information. For example, the APP parameter may also carry a specific reason (CAUSE) value indicating the reason (cause) of releasing the call. Different reason values are added to the core and the access network. Normally, when a call is released by an active network, if the corresponding reason value is not directly present in the core network, the actual reason is given to the closest reason value provided by the core network to the signaling protocol. It is necessary to map. By using the APP parameters, the true access network reason value can be sent through the network to another access network and the PBX, where it can be properly translated. FIG. 7 shows a physical architecture that supports the functions described above. A PBX or "PINX" is a device commercially available, for example, from NORTEL as the Meridian M1 PBX; local and transition exchanges include digital exchanges such as AXE10, commercially available from Ericsson, or System X from GPT Ltd, for example. Or there is Nortel's DMS-100. Within the different platforms, the different elements have the following functions: Supplementary Service Control (SS-C) prepares the process to support a particular supplementary service. The Coordination Function provides coordination for supplementary services that differ between GFT control, various SS control entities, ROSE, ACSE, DSE, and call control. The coordination function also provides a function to support the processing of unrecognized APDUs. The remote operating service element (ROSE) is responsible for encoding the auxiliary service information provided by the SS-C into the appropriate ROSE application protocol unit (APDU). The ROSE APDU is then sent to either the GFT control or DST via the binding function. A Dialog Service Element (DSE) can be used to create one or more dialogs between two PTNXs or to provision services via a coordination function, so that implicitly by a network layer connection The unrelated ROSE elements can be unambiguously related. These services allow ROSE ADPUs to be exchanged and sent to GFT control. An associated control service element (ACSE) can prepare a set of services to establish and release explicit application associations. General Function Transmission (GFT) provides connection-oriented, connectionless-oriented, and notification services to SSC, ACSE, ROSE, and DSE via coordination functions.
