Abstract

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a foldable portable telephone set, which can be miniaturized and lightened in weight, capable of easily and surely detecting opening/ closing while reducing power consumption. SOLUTION: With a hinge 104 as a center, key buttons 103 are located on one side and a display 101 is located on the other side facing each other. A solar battery 102 is provided around the display device 101 and a light emitting part 302 is located on the back of the key buttons 103. While the portable telephone set 100 is closed, a voltage is generated by making light from the light emitting part 302 incident to the solar battery 102 and opening/closing of the portable telephone set 100 is detected by detecting this voltage by means of a voltage measuring part 305. While the portable telephone set 100 is opened, under sufficient lightness, the solar battery 102 can be used as an operating power source for the portable telephone set 100 or for charging the built-in battery.

2. Description of the Related Art Portable telephones are rapidly spreading because of their convenience. Various efforts have been made to further pursue the convenience of mobile phones. One of the ways to enhance such convenience is to reduce the size and weight (to reduce the size), and the other is to reduce the power consumption or extend the life of the battery. In particular, by employing a folded configuration, it is possible to make the mobile phone when not in use more compact.

In such a conventional portable telephone, a reed switch and a permanent magnet (hereinafter, simply referred to as a magnet) are used to detect opening / closing of the portable telephone. In this case, the size of the reed switch is 2 mm × 2 mm even if the smallest one currently on the market is used.
A size of x13 mm is required, and occupies a considerable proportion of the entire mobile phone. This inevitably occupies such an area on a substrate mounted at high density. This is very disadvantageous for miniaturization of mobile phones. Further, the magnet is not disposed on the substrate, but has a strong magnetic force, and is located near the microphone in an open state such as during a telephone call (or communication) with a mobile phone, thereby causing deterioration of its acoustic characteristics. In the closed communication standby state, the magnet is located near the antenna, which adversely affects the radio wave reception state.

Next, the operation of the mobile phone 100 according to the present invention will be described with reference to FIGS. As shown in FIG. 1, when the foldable mobile phone 100 is used in an open state and in a sufficiently bright place, a sufficient voltage is always obtained from the solar cell unit 102.
Is in the open state. Even when the mobile phone 100 is in the open state shown in FIG. 1, the surrounding illumination is dark or the mobile phone 100 is closed as shown in FIG. 2, so that the voltage from the solar cell unit 102 becomes equal to or less than a predetermined threshold. The case will be described. In this case, the light emitting unit 302 is driven (O
N) to make the key button 103 emit light. Here, as shown in FIG. 4, the light emitting section 302 has a light emitting (ON) time that is constant and very short, and an irregular time interval (OFF time).
Operate to repeat blinking with.

The voltage measuring section 305 turns on the light emitting section 302.
The voltage from the solar cell unit 102 is measured at both times. At this time, as shown in FIG. 2, when the foldable mobile phone 100 is closed, the light emitting unit 302 is turned on.
Only in the case of (1), a voltage value equal to or higher than the threshold value is obtained from the solar cell unit 102. On the other hand, at the time of OFF, the generated (induced) voltage of the solar cell unit 102 is equal to or lower than the threshold. As shown in FIG.
In the open state of the foldable mobile phone 100, since the surface of the solar cell unit 102 and the surface of the key button 103 do not face each other, the light emitting unit 302 is turned on unless there is external illumination light or the like on the solar cell unit 102. Since the voltage generated by the solar cell unit 102 is lower than or equal to the threshold value both at the time and at the time of OFF, the open / close detection of the mobile phone 100 becomes possible. Also,
When the generated voltage is equal to or higher than the threshold value both when the light emitting unit 302 is turned on and when the light emitting unit 302 is turned off, the folding mobile phone 100
Is in the open state and has sufficient external light,
The CPU unit 306 blinks the light emitting unit 302 (ON / OF).

On the other hand, as shown in FIG. 2, when the foldable portable telephone 100 is in a closed state for a long time, the power consumption is increased by increasing the blinking interval of the light emitting unit 302 (ie, increasing the OFF time). It is possible to suppress. As described above, when the open / close state of the foldable mobile phone 100 changes, the voltage measurement unit 305
An interrupt or the like is performed for the unit 306. When the display device 101 is operating, the voltage measurement unit 305
The measured voltage value of the solar cell unit 102 is also sent to the CPU unit 306. Therefore, the CPU unit 306 controls the display brightness and the like of the display device 101 based on the measured voltage value.

However, such embodiments are merely examples of the present invention and do not limit the present invention in any way. It can be easily understood by those skilled in the art that various modifications can be made without departing from the gist of the present invention depending on the specific use or the like. For example, adjusting the display brightness of the display device 101 and turning off the backlight.
When the voltage measurement unit 305 does not need to perform the A / D conversion, the voltage measurement unit 305 does not need to measure the voltage value of the solar cell unit 102.
It is also possible to simply compare the voltage value with a predetermined threshold value and to use this comparison result to detect opening / closing of the foldable mobile phone 100.

As described above, the portable telephone of the present invention has the following practically significant effects. First, since the open / close check of the foldable mobile phone can be executed without using a reed switch, a magnet, and the like as in the related art, the size and weight of the mobile phone can be reduced. In addition, since the solar cell unit and the voltage measuring unit or the voltage detecting unit are used for opening / closing confirmation, the solar cell unit can be used as a driving power supply for a mobile phone, and is used under a sufficient amount of light (or lighting). In this case, it is possible to extend the life of the built-in battery by switching the built-in battery (battery) or charging the battery. In addition, by measuring the voltage of the solar cell unit by the voltage measurement unit, it is possible to know the brightness around the mobile phone when the foldable mobile phone is open, so that the display brightness of the display device and the like can be known. Is adjusted to an optimal set value, the backlight is turned off, and the like, so that unnecessary power consumption can be saved.
