47th Electronic Components and Technology Conference 1997 pp.620-625(文献2)には、WDM機能を有する光導波路基板と光電変換素子をレセプタクル型パッケージに納めた光伝送モジュールが記載されている。光導波路はマッハツェンダ型光結合器を有し、1.3μmと1.55μmの光の合分波を実現している。光電変換素子はそれぞれ別の基板に実装され、光導波路基板と光電変換素子を実装した基板をセラミックパッケージ内で位置決め固定することにより光導波路と光電変換素子を光接続している。光ファイバは素線の片端にフェルールを取りつけたフェルール付き光ファイバ構造とし、素線部分をファイバホルダで光導波路基板に取り付け、フェルールをブロックで保持固定している。ブロックによるフェルール保持部が第2の光ファイバとの着脱を可能としている。また、水分、酸素等による光電変換素子の腐食及び光結合部への結露を防ぐために、セラミックパッケージに蓋を被せ、接着固定して光結合部の気密封止を実現している。セラミックパッケージから伸びたフラットリードをリフローハンダ付けすることにより、プリント配線基板への実装を可能としている。
