It contributes to the PTC behavior of the product and the sharp melting point of the composition, and thereby the processability.
The percentage of UHMWPE to be used in the composition depends on the desired autothermal behavior (because
The higher the amount of UHMWPE, the stronger the PTC effect it contributes to) and the workability (why
And UHMWPE are difficult to process).
In addition to the polymeric moieties, the PTC compositions of the present invention include
Including fine particle conductive filler. Fine particles where silver powder is preferred for electromagnetic interference applications
It can be a conductive filler. Filler dispersed within the polymeric portion of the PTC composition
And more particularly, dispersed within a polyolefin matrix. In its inclusion
Thus, the resulting composition is made electrically conductive. Fine particle conductive filler in PTC composition
% Is in the range from 15 to 90% by weight. Preferably, the filler is a PTC composition
In the range of 25-40% to allow for high flexibility and tensile strength.
The relative amounts of the polymeric and conductive portions of the PTC composition are determined by the desired amount of the final composition.
It is well known to vary depending on conductivity and other characteristics.
Polyolefin matrix, that is, easily processed by melt extrusion
The polymer acts as a base into which the other components of the composition are dispersed, and the PTC

May be included for stability of the product. The antioxidant is preferably a polymeric moiety
It is present in an amount of 0.5 to 4% by volume per minute.
Although the fabrication method of the present invention is simple, it is important for its function. First, the pair
The three main components of the product are Brabender or Bambari
Mixed together in a Banbury mixer. Antioxidants and flame retardants are also
Can be added to the mixture. The mixture is heated while continuing to mix, thereby
Thus, the polyolefin matrix melts and the other components
Uniformly distributed in the matrix. For example, when preparing a representative composition
HDPE melts, but UHMWPE and carbon black do not.
Distributed in PE. The heated mixture is then applied using a Brabender extruder
And extruded to form the desired shape, such as a tube, rod or sheet.
If desired, the formed material may be extruded before being exposed to a chemical crosslinker or irradiation.
Can be used to crosslink.
The polyolefin matrix is preferably significant without additional polymer

The polyolefin matrix preferably melts at up to 350 ° C., so that
Standard melt extrusion equipment can be used to prepare the composition and the components of the composition

Thus, the compositions of the present invention can also be melt processed and extruded. Volume expansion control
The high molecular weight polymer is used to determine the processability of the overall composition (more specifically, the polyolefin polymer).
