該複数の画像表示素子からの各色の光を合成する第2光学系と、
該第2光学系により合成された各色の光を投影する投影光学系と
を有する投射型表示装置において、
可視領域における所定の領域を通過させ、それ以外の領域を阻止することで前記各色のうちの所定の色の純度を上げる光学素子を所定の光路に対して挿脱可能に配置し、該光学素子を該所定の光路に挿入しない場合は該光学素子を該所定の光路とは異なる光路に挿入することを特徴とする投射型表示装置。
【請求項2】 該所定の光路は、該第1光学系における光路であることを特徴とする請求項1記載の投射型表示装置。
【請求項3】 該光学素子は所定の波長以上の領域を通過させそれ以外の領域を阻止するか、該可視領域において所定の波長以下の領域を通過させそれ以外の領域を阻止する光学素子であることを特徴とする請求項1又は2記載の投射型表示装置。
【請求項4】 該光学素子はエッジフイルタまたはバンドカットフイルタであることを特徴とする請求項1乃至3いずれかに記載の投射型表示装置。
【請求項5】 第1、2、3の画像表示素子と、
光源からの光を互いに色が異なる第1、2、3の色光に分離して、前記第1、2、3の色の色光を前記第1、2、3の画像表示素子のうち対応する素子に入射させる第1光学系と、
前記第1、2、3の画像表示素子からの前記第1、2、3の色光を合成する第2光学系と、
該第2光学系により合成された光を投影する投影光学系と
を有する投射型表示装置において、
可視領域における所定の波長領域の光を通過させ、それ以外の波長領域の光を阻止することによって、前記第1の色光の純度を上げる光学素子を前記第1の色光の光路に対して挿脱可能に配置し、該光学素子を前記第1の色光の光路に挿入しない場合は該光学素子を前記第2の色光の光路に挿入することを特徴とする投射型表示装置。
