The paper placing plate 1 is a plate on which the paper is placed, and the right end thereof can be turned up and down with the left end in the drawing as a fulcrum. The feed roller 3 is configured to be movable in the up and down direction and contacts the uppermost portion of the sheet placed on the sheet placing plate 1,
The roller is a roller that feeds only the uppermost sheet to the right by rotating in the counterclockwise direction in the drawing, and the sheet sent by the feed roller 3 is conveyed to the image forming means of the printer main body. The feed roller position detecting means 4 is a means for detecting whether or not the feed roller 3 is at a position where the sheet feeding condition is the best. For example, when the feed roller 3 is at a preferable position, a switch is turned ON and a High signal is output. May be transmitted as long as it transmits to the control means 10. The rotary lifter 5 may have any configuration as long as the paper mounting plate 1 is rotated upward. The rotary lifter 5 rotates until the feed roller position detecting means 4 detects that the feed roller 3 has reached a preferable position. Perform the action. An arc-shaped interlocking portion 5a interlocked with the operation of the rotary lifter 5 is provided. Teeth 5b are provided on the side surface of the interlocking portion 5a, and mesh with the teeth 11b of the rotating body 11. 1 and 6, the teeth 5b are indicated by dotted lines. The paper-out detecting means 2 raises the paper-mounting plate 1 as the remaining amount of the mounted paper decreases, but the paper-out detecting device 2 is provided at a position where the paper-mounting plate 1 reaches when the paper runs out, and detects the paper out. Any means may be used as long as it is a means for detecting, for example, a means for turning on the switch when pressed by the paper placing plate 1 and transmitting a High signal to the control means 10.

The rotating body 11 is formed in a disk shape, and has a side surface formed with teeth 11b and a central shaft 11 for meshing with the teeth 5b.
Rotate around c. Further, a plurality of openings 11a are provided at equal distances and at equal intervals from the central axis. In the present embodiment, the rotating body 11 is formed in a disk shape. However, even if the rotating body 11 has another shape, a plurality of openings 11a may be provided at an equal distance from the central axis and at equal intervals. 1 and 6, the tooth 11
b is indicated by a dotted line. The light emitting element 12a and the light receiving element 12b face each other with the rotating body 11
It is arranged at the position where passes. In FIG. 1, the light emitting element 12a
The light receiving element 12b is provided on the back surface of the rotating body 11 facing the light emitting element 12b. The detecting means 7 is a means for detecting the number of times that the light from the light emitting element 12a is received by the light receiving element 12b and detecting the remaining amount of paper based on the cumulative number of times of receiving the light. For example, as shown in FIG.
, The light passing through the opening 11a is received by the light receiving element 12b, which is a photoelectric conversion element, and the light receiving element
The current flowing through 2b changes, and the detection means 7 converts the current into a voltage, converts it into a pulse, and accumulates the number of times of pulse generation as the number of times of light reception. The storage means 8 is a means for storing the number of light receptions accumulated by the detection means 7 and stores the number of light receptions even when the power of the paper supply device is turned off, and adds the number of light receptions after the power is turned on to the stored number of light receptions. And memorize it.

As shown in FIG. 3, the fact that the accumulated number of times of light reception is large means that the remaining amount of the paper placed on the paper placing plate 1 is small and the inclination angle of the paper placing plate 1 is large. Conversely, the fact that the accumulated number of times of light reception is small means that the remaining amount of paper placed on the paper
Is small. Therefore, since there is a relationship between the number of times of light reception and the remaining amount of paper, the data as shown in FIG. 4 is stored in the storage unit 8 so that the detection unit 7 can detect the number of times of light reception (the number of counts in FIG. 4). It is possible to accurately and accurately detect the remaining amount of paper.

The display means for displaying the remaining amount of paper may be provided in the paper supply apparatus or in the image forming apparatus. However, the image forming apparatus equipped with or connected to the paper supply apparatus may be connected to a host computer or a personal computer in a network environment or the like. (Hereinafter, information processing device), it is preferable to use the screen of the information processing device as a display means. Conventionally, since it is impossible to confirm the remaining amount of paper in the paper supply device from the information processing device side, the user goes to the place where the image forming apparatus is placed, and displays the remaining paper amount display portion of the image forming device or the paper supply device. This was very inconvenient because the user had to check the information and directly check it by pulling out the paper tray. However, by using the screen of the information processing device as a display means, the user can easily and quickly check the remaining amount of paper on the spot. Will be able to know.

When the cumulative number of light receptions stored in the storage means 8 after the power is turned on exceeds a predetermined number, it is more preferable to delete the number of light receptions stored before the power was turned on.
Hereinafter, description will be made with reference to the flowchart shown in FIG. N
Is the cumulative number of light receptions stored in the storage means 8. X is the number of light receptions required to reach the paper-out detecting means 2 from the lowermost position of the paper mounting plate 1. L is a determination signal, which is a signal of 0 or 1.

If N "<X, return to step 3,
If N ″ ≧ X, it means that the paper placing plate 1 was moved downward because the paper placing plate 1 was pulled out of the paper supply device and the paper was added when the power was turned off. Since it is necessary to delete the received light frequency, L = 1 is set (step 8), and the process returns to step 3.

If L = 0, the cumulative number of light receptions obtained by adding the number of light receptions before power-on to the number of light receptions before power-on is set to N (step 10). If L = 1, the cumulative number of light receptions before power-on is calculated. The number of light receptions is deleted, and the number of light receptions after the power is turned on is set to N (step 11). Based on the number of light receptions, the remaining amount of paper is detected by the detecting means 7 (step 12).

It should be noted that the same processing as in the flowchart of FIG. 5 may be performed even when the paper mounting plate 1 is moved downward due to the paper mounting plate 1 being pulled out and the paper being added when the power is turned on. In this case, the number of light receptions before the sheet mounting plate 1 moves downward may be reset. Further, in the present embodiment, the case where the paper placing plate is rotated has been described. However, the same effect can be obtained even in a configuration in which the paper placing plate moves up and down as a whole.

Next, another embodiment will be described. FIG.
In this embodiment, as shown in FIG.
The configuration is the same except that a ′ has a shape that gradually becomes smaller along the rotation direction, and the detection unit 7 detects the remaining amount of paper based on the amount of light received by the light receiving unit 12b. In the present embodiment, the shape becomes smaller along the rotation direction, but may be made larger.

In the present embodiment, since the amount of light received by the light receiving section 12b changes depending on the position of the opening 11a ', the light receiving section 12b shown in FIG.
As shown in the figure, the fact that the amount of received light is small means that the remaining amount of paper placed on the paper placing plate 1 is small and the inclination angle of the paper placing plate 1 is large, and conversely, the amount of received light is large. This means that the remaining amount of paper placed on the paper placing plate 1 is large and the inclination angle of the paper placing plate 1 is small. Therefore, since there is a relationship between the amount of received light and the remaining amount of paper, the data as shown in FIG. 8 is stored in the storage unit 8 so that the detecting unit 7 detects the amount of received light (in FIG. 8, the relative photocurrent). , It is possible to accurately and accurately detect the remaining amount of paper.
