Abstract
Apparatus for extracting hydrocarbons from hydrocarbon-bearing substrate particles comprising a retort zone (5) provided with means (10,12) for introducing fluidizing gas into the retort zone (5) and a gas outlet (14), an inlet section (6) communicating with the retort zone (5) and a particle outlet (8), wherein the inlet section (6) comprises a vertical mixing zone (24) having a lower end (25) provided with an inlet (27) for hydrocarbon-bearing substrate particles and means (29) for introducing hot particles into the mixing zone (24), and having an upper end (33) provided with an outlet (34) which communicates with the retort zone (5).
