Uranium(VI) contained in an impure phosphoric acid, particularly one obtained by the wet process , is recovered by a liquid – liquid extraction process that comprises, in a first cycle, treating the impure acid with a first extractive organic, phase and regenerating the uranium with a phosphoric solution containing iron (II) ions; in a second cycle, treating the phosphoric solution after oxideation with a second extractive organic phase, washing the resulting uranium-charged organic phase by means of an iron- free aqueous phosphoric solution produced by aqueous washing of the organic phase of the first cycle before regeneration of the uranium and concentration of the resulting dilute phosphoric solution; and finally recovering uranium form the second phase.
