Abstract

PATENT DESCRIPTION for INDUSTRIAL UTILITY MODEL

By title:

"DEVICE WITH ROTATING DRUM, HYDRAULICALLY OPERATED, FOR THE AUTOMATIC WASHING OF EDIBLE VEGETABLES, ESPECIALLY VEGETABLES IN SALAD LEAVES".

Among the different types of work that are carried out in the kitchen, one that requires time and utmost care, even if sometimes it does not achieve the desired results, is the perfect washing of vegetable leaves intended to be part of salads.

The object of the invention is to provide a device, for the automatic washing of vegetables, which can be hydraulically operated by the water coming from a tap.

The device consists of a pair of concentric cylinders in one of which, the internal one with a perforated shell, equipped with helical blades protruding from the shell, the vegetables to be washed are introduced; this cylinder, mounted rotatably in the fixed external cylinder, is hit by the jet of water introduced into the external cylinder. The external cylinder being provided with a drain for the washing water and a support support. The water introduced into the outer cylinder invests the mantle of the inner cylinder so that it penetrates into the same and acts on the helical blades which act as turbine blades; there is a drain for the washing water.

The invention is described below with the aid of the attached perspective drawings, in which:

- fig. 1 shows an embodiment of the device with the skirts of the two cylinders partially split;

- fig. 2 is an exploded view illustrating the component parts of the device;

- fig. 3, similar to FIG. 2, illustrates a variant relating to the skirt of the two cylinders.

With reference to fig. 1 the device, indicated by -A- as a whole, comprises an external cylinder 1, with a horizontal axis, with an entire shell except for a limited discharge area 2, consisting of a grid or a plurality of holes or slits, which lead to a discharge channel 3, Ί. With -3- is indicated a support base that can take any form other than the one represented. In the cylinder 1 there is rotatably mounted, integral with the shaft 8, a second cylinder 5 with a perforated skirt 6 provided with helical blades 7. The bottom 9 is integral with the cylinder 5 while the opposite bottom 9a is removable. The bottoms 10, 11 of the cylinder 1 are both removable, applied on the opposite bases by screwing or, more simply, by means of bayonet fittings. The end 3a of the shaft 8, protruding centrally from the bottom 11, has a polygonal section able to engage in the eye of a crank 13.

As shown in FIG. 3, both the cylinder 1 and the cylinder 5 are preferably provided with large doors la, 5a, removable or hinged with respect to the shell of the corresponding cylinder, provided with snap means for closing and retaining in the closing seat.

The bottom 11 is provided with a tubular union 12 which can be joined to the end of a branch of conduit in a flexible tube which is connected with the opposite end to a tap of drinking water.

The operation of the device is as follows

- the material to be washed, such as vegetables, particularly leaves for salads, is introduced into the cylinder 5. If the device does not have the doors 1a and 5a, access to the cylinder 5 is obtained by removing the bottoms 11 and 9a. Once the cylinder 5 has been filled, the removed bottoms are re-applied in their seat; then the water tap connected to the filler 12 is opened; the water that invades the inside of both cylinders, thanks to the helical blades 7, forces the cylinder 5 into rotation, like a turbine, with its content which is constantly hit by new jets of water that is gradually discharged through grid 2 and channel 3, 4.

The duration of the washing operation is variable; in any case, given the revolution movement imposed on the contents of the cylinder 5 and the continuous supply of clean water, a few minutes are sufficient to obtain a complete washing of the contents.

Once the washing operation has been completed, the crank 13 is engaged on the end Sa of the shaft 8 through which a rapid rotation is imposed on the cylinder 5, anethias in the two opposite directions, in order to centrifuge the residual water of the contents which, at the end of the operation, it is extracted from the almost dry cylinder 5.

The advantages deriving from the use of the device in question are many and evident, in fact: - an integral washing of parts and herd of the vegetable products in leaves is achieved;

- the device does not require any electrical connection and therefore its use does not involve any danger for the operator;

its use does not affect the consumption of electricity;

- its hydraulic operation does not require any particular precautions;

- the cost of washing water is negligible, particularly if compared to the perfect washing which removes all traces of soil or other foreign bodies, particularly from leaves and / or groups of leaves still connected to each other.

The scope of the patent is not limited by the example described and represented but includes any other equivalent solution capable of achieving the results described with the use of similar means.

Claims (1)

CLAIMS 1) - Device with rotating drum, hydraulically operated, for the automatic washing of edible vegetables, particularly vegetables in salad leaves, characterized by the fact that it comprises a pair of concentric cylinders, of which the external one (1) has a support base {4 , B) and removable bottoms (10,11); the internal drum (5) having a perforated shell, longitudinally crossed by an integral shaft (8), rotatable within and with respect to the first (1), a removable bottom (11) is provided with a union (12) which can be connected to a socket 'water; the internal drum (5) having a removable bottom (9a) for introducing the materials to be washed into the drum; the skirt of said revolving drum (5) being provided with projecting helical blades (7) hit by the jet of water which imposes a rotational movement on the drum about its own axis. 2) - Device according to rev. 1), characterized in that both shells of the two cylinders (1,5) are provided with opening doors (la, 5a) in order to carry out the loading-unloading of the rotating cylinder (5) without removing the caps (9a, 11). 3) - Device according to rev. 1, characterized in that the end (3a) of the central shaft (3) integral with the cylinder (5) protrudes from the bottom (11); a crank (13) can be engaged on said end (8a) in order to manually impart rapid and repeated angular movements to the cylinder (5) in order to centrifuge the residual water. 4) - Device according to the preceding claims as described and represented and for the specified purposes.
