Abstract

Il procedimento consiste nel trattamento generalizzato dei rifiuti tossici e nocivi in bagno di ferro fuso, dove esistono le condizioni chimico-fisiche che adatte (bassissimo potenziale ossigeno) e la temperatura ( 2.000 C) sia per la pirolisi riducente dei composti organici molto stabili, sia per la riduzione d'ossidi metallici con energia libera di formazione sufficientemente elevata. Il reattore per il trattamento primario e' riscaldato per induzione elettromagnetica ed alimentato con ossidanti, scorificanti e con sostanze contenenti carbonio. Esso può operare sotto vuoto moderato per il trattamento di rifiuti contenenti piombo. A valle del reattore gli alogeni catturati con la calce sotto forma di cloruro (alogenuri) di calcio i metalli sono eliminati per condensazione. Si produce gas a medio potere calorifico utilizzabile per produrre energia elettrica. I metalli in eccesso e la scoria vengono eliminati in continuo. Non sussistono inquinanti nel gas e nella scoria prodotta.
