Description of the industrial model entitled: "Device with disposable cartridge for gravitational infusion for intravenous and / or oral therapy with automatically controlled flow regulation, powered by alternating or direct current."
di : Francesco Carugno , Anna Mainolfì, David Pesarin. by: Francesco Carugno, Anna Mainolfì, David Pesarin.
The purpose of this device is to automatically regulate the administration of liquids in all those cases where intravenous therapies for drip are necessary, that is, in all conditions where the patient must take intravenous liquids, such as in intensive therapy, in the post-operative hospitalization, in the administration of special drugs that require particular dosage precautions and / or in parenteral nutrition.
In current equipment, the regulation of the flow requires a continuous and vigilant manual adjustment on the part of healthcare professionals with a considerable expenditure of time and a high margin of error and consequent risks in the administration of those drugs with a narrow therapeutic window.
Esso e’ formato da due parti fondamentali: Other devices implement a forced administration of fluids by means of volumetric and / or peristaltic pumps which exclude gravity dripping. The aforementioned equipment for their operation obliges the operator to a slow and laborious preparation, with the use of extension tubes, continuous replacements (sometimes within 24 hours) of the infusion tubes due to the rapid mechanical wear due to to which they are subjected, housing and inspection doors that impose complex loading actions of the infusion tubes. In addition, the transpor tability of these devices is compromised by a considerable weight and bulk which makes maintenance rods, stands, hospital stands and dedicated supports absolutely necessary for their use. This device has some innovations that eliminate the aforementioned limits. It consists of two fundamental parts:
Description of the operation of the device. As reported in table A, the dedicated disposable cartridge is inserted into its housing seat located inside the flow meter (see table B), and guided by means of a slide from the bottom (inlet hole) upwards (hole d 'exit). Once inserted into the flow meter, the cartridge is locked in place by a special safety lock (18).
The flow meter is then programmed to infuse the volume of liquid to be administered in the unit of time using the number keys (see table B). At this point the membrane plug (19) of the container of the liquid to be infused is perforated.
By manually compressing the lower drip chamber (see table A - number 8), the cartridge and the dispensing tube are filled with liquid; at this point the system can be activated.
The upper reading chamber of the cartridge (see table A - number 4) is interposed between the light source! 11) on one side, and the photolector (12) on the other, making it possible to detect the passage of drops. The signal thus detected is filtered by a discriminator (13) and sent through the interposition of a counter! 14) and a clock (15), to the control logic unit (16) previously programmed by the health worker. Once the data has been processed, the latter sends an opening or closing impulse to the servomotor (17) which acts on the silicone tube (6) by squeezing. The greater or lesser opening of the aforesaid tube determines the regulation of the flow.
