I vari elementi della copertura scorrono, uno sopra l’altro, sugli orizzontamenti fissi. Perché l’intera copertura possa sostenere le sollecitazioni dal basso verso l’alto, i vari elementi devono essere fissati agli orizzontamenti fissi su cui scorrono in modo che possano scorrere ma non sollevarsi. L’elemento più basso, quello estremo quando la copertura è aperta, è fissato direttamente agli orizzontamenti su cui scorre almeno alle due estremità della sua larghezza, lungo l’asse di ciascun orizzontamento in qualunque posizione si trovi. Gli altri elementi vengono fissati invece agli orizzontamenti su cui scorrono, in ciascun punto situato pressoché sull’intersezione del bordo della loro lunghezza, (dalla parte in cui vengono impacchettati quando la copertura è chiusa), con l’asse degli orizzontamenti fissi, e vengono fissati al loro elemento inferiore lungo il bordo opposto od anche in altro punto, in modo che possano scorrere su quest’ultimo per tutta la sua larghezza mantenendo almeno la parte della loro facciata inferiore scoperta, fissata nei suoi quattro punti estremi, ( direttamente in due punti, indirettamente negli altri due punti), agli orizzontamenti fissi.
