DESCRIZIONE DESCRIPTION
dell’invenzione industriale dal titolo: of the industrial invention entitled:
“Procedimento per lo stoccaggio di rifiuti tritati in discariche” "Procedure for the storage of crushed waste in landfills"
The present invention relates to a process for storing crushed waste in a landfill and to a landfill realized by means of this method.
In the waste cataloging of the Austrian standard S2100, shredded waste is a specific type of shredded waste consisting, among other things, of the material obtained from the treatment of old vehicles, collection waste and bulky waste. This type of waste is also called light crushing fraction and "Fluff ', in Switzerland it is also called" Resh. "The shredding generally takes place in hammer mills.
Depending on the material of which they are initially made, the chopped waste has a high specific calorific value, in the order of magnitude of lignite. The storage of this type of waste therefore creates problems due to the risk of self-ignition.
Despite the high calorific value and again due to its origin, it is far from easy and cheap to burn chopped waste in incineration plants, since, on the one hand, the high content of metals and plastics produces annoying effects on the other hand, during the inevitable and costly purification of the burnt gases, carried out in several stages, residues (water-soluble halides, mercury and cadmium compounds) are formed with a more complex storage than the starting ground waste.
The use of crushed waste for the recovery of metals, for example in blast furnaces or through processes similar to those of altifomes, does not bring any advantage, again due to the materials contained in them, in particular tin and copper, as these materials substantially reduce the quality of the iron obtained from it, while generating, at the same time, the non-metallic components contained in the chopped waste, strong emissions of air pollutants and this is not tolerable for ecological reasons.
The present invention now proposes a storage process by which the disadvantages described above do not occur and with which surprisingly significant benefits are obtained with the landfill activity in the context of the fight against fumes and the formation of infiltration water.
In this regard, the present invention provides that the crushed waste is placed in layers on the garbage previously stored in the landfill, that a new layer of waste to be stored is placed on the layer of crushed waste, which on this layer is placed a further layer of shredded waste, and so on.
The invention also refers to a landfill for crushed waste and other garbage, in particular residues, characterized in that the storage of the waste in the landfill is stratiform, and that the individual layers of crushed waste are separated from each other by layers of other waste, where the layers consisting of the chopped waste preferably have a thickness of 10-120 cm, preferably 20-40 cm.
Preferably placed in this way at the end of a working day, the crushed waste, based on its composition, considerably reduces the foul-smelling gaseous fluxes of the other waste, and is also able, due to its consistency, to absorb large quantities of humidity generated by rain or snow and, of course, also by night dew, accumulating it in the layer, therefore near the surface of the landfill, and then releasing it again in the form of evaporation the next day or at the end of the precipitation. In this way, a clear reduction in the quantity of landfill infiltration water is obtained.
Continuing in the structure of the landfill according to the present invention, the layers of residues and crushed waste which rest on each other in the manner of a "Doboschtorte" (layer cake) determine a considerable comparison of the quantity of infiltrating water in the drainage system of the landfill, which favors the operating cycle of the landfill itself, while the large accumulation capacity of the crushed waste, together with the fact that their stratiform location hinders the rapid formation of the liquid coming from the precipitations, allows the infiltration water to be sprayed on the layer of crushed waste which from time to time is placed higher, from where, as a result of the heat of the landfill (in principle it is nuclear landfills) evaporates in significant quantities, while only a small quantity penetrates again through the landfill again as seepage water.
In this regard, attention should be drawn to the fact that the costs alone for the disposal of infiltration water from landfills already rise, in Austrian currency, to 1000, - shillings per ton of infiltration water (equal to about DM 140 per ton of infiltration water), excluding the costs for collection, temporary storage and transfer to disposal.
It is particularly preferable that the underlying waste layer in the landfill is made up of crushed waste, since this provides a preliminary purification of the water that is filtering, favoring the reduction of the filtration water to be disposed of and the related burden.
The layer of chopped waste interposed with the other waste according to the present invention has a thickness of 10-120 cm, preferably 20-40 cm, which is measured after the layers have been deposited and compressed but before others are placed. In this way, the lower terminal sector is characterized by the ability to retain emanations and absorb moisture, while the upper terminal sector is characterized by the risk of self-combustion. Therefore, the optimal thickness of the layer, to which one tends from time to time, also depends on the nature of the underlying material of the landfill (development of fumes) and, of course, on the presence or absence in the chopped waste to be placed of a rather high or rather low of expanded plastic material and similar fractions with a large specific surface, and finally even by the expected formation of humidity.
Ne) if the layers were already covered, an expert familiar with the invention and the "history" of the current landfill will be able to establish its original thickness by obtaining it from the thickness of the current layer.
The gas-generating action of the layer constituted according to the present invention from crushed waste is based, as mentioned above, on its adsorbing qualities and on the fact that at least about 40% of the gases that are formed, which in most cases reach and exceed 50%, it comes out of the momentary "loading surface" which does not yet constitute the final upper lining of the landfill (with gas vent and the like). In this area of the landfill there is also the recently deposited garbage which, therefore, it is more responsive.
In the event that the quantity of crushed waste is small, before starting the introduction of other waste, it is of course possible to remove the layer placed the day before, essentially consisting of crushed waste, temporarily deposit it in a suitable place of the landfill and, after having placed the waste just produced, cover the chopped waste again with the chopped material that was delivered in that meantime.
This typically occurs in the evening, while the removal of the crushed waste layer can be done in the morning. If the quantity of chopped waste proves sufficient, as delivery takes place, it can be unloaded in the most suitable place of the landfill and, once the daily delivery and storage of other waste is finished, it is deposited on top of the latter and compressed and leveled with the methods usual.
As already briefly mentioned, the achievable effects according to the present invention are essentially based on that part of chopped waste that has a large relative surface, such as, for example, foam and similar material that is obtained from car seats, and bulky waste; however, the crushed waste, based on its production which takes place mostly in chamber mills, also has a large additional part of thin material that has a large specific surface.
Said wastes therefore have considerable adsorbent qualities, which by the storage according to the present invention are made useful for the first time. Furthermore, the storage according to the present invention allows to incorporate to the layer of crushed waste additional substances, as desired or necessary, such as for example coke dust, lime and the like, in specific points, therefore in specific sectors of the landfill, as said substances can be retained in the layer of crushed waste and therefore fixed in the landfill.
