Description
The present invention relates to a method for locating objects in a delimited area. In particular, the present invention finds application in shopping centers or shops in general, cultural areas such as, for example, museums, libraries, archaeological areas, or even in logistic spaces such as port areas or storage warehouses.
According to what is known, in the delimited areas where objects are displayed or located, the finding of such objects is entrusted to a stationary signage system that directs a user towards the object sought.
In more advanced cases, the systems include a database in which objects and their locations are listed. The user queries the system, entering the name of the object. If the name is present in the database, the system returns the position of the object.
However, these systems also exhibit a high degree of stiffness. In fact, if the name used is not reported exactly in the database list, no result can be reproduced. This is the case, for example, where the entered name is a synonym or identifies a group of objects, and not just a specific one.
Furthermore, known systems do not offer any possibility to integrate further services to the user or to the service manager.
In this context, the technical task underlying the present invention is to propose a method for locating objects in a delimited area that overcomes the drawbacks of the aforementioned prior art.
In particular, it is an object of the present invention to provide a method for locating objects in a delimited area which allows a practical and flexible locating of objects.
The specified technical task and the specified purpose are substantially achieved by a method for locating objects in a delimited area comprising the technical characteristics set out in one or more of the appended claims.
Further characteristics and advantages of the present invention will become clearer from the indicative, and therefore non-limiting, description of a preferred but not exclusive embodiment of a method for locating objects in a delimited area, as illustrated in the accompanying figure 1 which is a schematic representation of a system for implementing the method according to the present invention.
The method for locating objects in a delimited area according to the present invention is applicable in any case in which a plurality of objects are arranged within a closed or open delimited area.
By way of example, this delimited area can be that of a shopping center or a shop in general, where the objects are produced for sale.
This area can also be a cultural area such as, for example, a library, a museum or an archaeological area. In this case the objects can be books, works of art or particular places of the archaeological site.
Furthermore, the delimited area can be a logistic space such as a port or airport area, a storage warehouse or more. In these cases, the objects to be located can be particular places in the port or airport areas (check-in counters, boarding gates, shops, ...), or specific containers and stored products.
The method provides, as a preliminary, to associate each object 1 arranged in the delimited area â € œAâ € with a corresponding position.
This position can be defined on the basis of an absolute reference system using geographic coordinates. Alternatively, the position can be defined on the basis of a relative reference system. In this case, for example, the position can be defined by the number of a particular shelf where object 1 is positioned, by the shelf level and by the distance from one end of the shelf. In a database 2, a list of objects 1 is created. In detail, the names of objects 1 are listed in this list.
In addition, the position is associated with the name of each object 1.
The method also involves the phase of identifying the object 1 to be located in order to obtain its position through the table saved in database 2.
The identification phase is carried out by a user who inserts at least one word representing the object 1 to be localized into a processing unit 3. It is also possible to enter two or more words to describe specific objects 1.
By processing unit 3 we can mean a common computer or a web server in which the database 3 is contained.
The introduction of the word or words into the processing unit 3 takes place through a terminal 4 connected to the processing unit 3. The terminal 4 can be a totem comprising means for entering data 5 and means of display 6. The insertion means 5 can be a common keyboard and the display means 6 can be a common video screen. The insertion means 5, moreover, may comprise, in place of or in addition to the keyboard, a microphone. In that case, a voice recognition system is provided. By way of example, this voice recognition system is software contained in terminal 4.
Advantageously, the insertion means 5 and the display means 6 can be integrated in a touchscreen.
Alternatively, the terminal 5 can be a multimedia mobile phone (smartphone), a portable PC or a tablet.
The connection between the terminal 4 and the processing unit 3 can be made by means of a common cable or by means of an internet connection, wireless or not.
Once the object 1 to be located is identified in the list, its position is consequently obtained and displayed, preferably through terminal 4.
The identification of the object 1 to be located takes place through the use of a semantic network 7 contained in the processing unit 3.
As an example, a semantic network is a graph that represents semantic relationships between various concepts. In other words, a semantic network represents an additional database that acts as a dictionary to interpret the words entered by the user to identify the object 1 to be located.
The processing unit 3, therefore, searches for the word entered by the user in the semantic network 7. If the interpretation of the word is univocal, the processing unit 3 tracks a name in the semantic network 7 corresponding to object 1 listed in database 2. In this way, the identification of object 1 and the detection of its position which is displayed to the user takes place.
If the interpretation of the word is not unique, the processing unit 3 finds in the semantic network 7 a plurality of names corresponding to as many objects 1 listed in the database 2. The names thus highlighted are displayed at the user through the display means 6 to allow him to make a choice in accordance with the object 1 actually to be located. This choice by the user defines the identification of object 1 and the detection of its position which is displayed to the user.
In a further case, the processing unit 3 verifies through the semantic network 7 that the word entered by the user does not uniquely identify a specific object 1, but rather a category of similar objects 1. The names of the objects 1 belonging to the category are displayed to the user so that he can make a choice.
Once one of the listed items is identified, its potion is deduced and displayed.
The tracked object or objects 1 can only be viewed by their name. Alternatively, the object or objects 1 can be displayed by means of their multimedia representations (audio, video, talking avatars) and / or three-dimensional graphic representations, possibly superimposing them on the scene framed by webcam, for example through the use of augmented reality. Advantageously, the semantic network 7 is of the self-learning neural type. In other words, the semantic network 7 integrates and refines its content every time a search is carried out and on the basis of the user's reaction and subsequent choices.
Once the object 1 is identified and located, the method can foresee the phase of calculating a path â € œPâ € from the position of the terminal 4 to the position of the object 1 located throughout the delimited area â € œAâ €. If terminal 4 is fixed, its position is obviously known a priori. If the terminal 4 is mobile, its position can be entered manually or automatically detected by using the telephone network or by means of a GPS system or other. The â € œPâ € route can be calculated with a specific criterion such as, for example, tracing the shortest route.
The path â € œPâ € is therefore also displayed to the user to facilitate reaching the searched object 1.
The method can also comprise the step of detecting the quantity and / or weight of the objects 1 through the use of sensors (not shown). This functionality is associated with a demand forecasting algorithm for the reintegration of the objects 1 themselves.
The information obtained is integrated in the database 2 in such a way as to be able to display information about the availability of the object 1 chosen to the user. This information can be managed, for example by a remote processing unit or by the terminal 4 itself, to generate alarm signals that are received in real time by an operator who can interact with the user, for example by means of a webcam, a microphone, a chat system, to improve and enrich the user's virtual search experience.
Additional information can be associated with each object 1 listed in database 2. By way of example, such additional information can be related to technical or commercial aspects. This additional information can be textual, multimedia, even 3D graphic representations, or more.
The method can also include the step of inserting in a list the names of the objects not found in the database 2. In this way, it is possible to indicate this list of objects desired by users but not available in the â € œAâ € area.
Furthermore, the method may include the step of entering the names of the objects 1 searched for and located by users in a special list.
For example, in the commercial field, these lists allow the implementation of commercial analysis to verify the level of satisfaction of the objects on display, in other words of the products on sale.
L’invenzione così descritta raggiunge lo scopo proposto. The invention thus described achieves the proposed aim.
In fact, the use of the semantic network in the interpretation of the user query makes it possible to make the location of the objects arranged in the delimited area more flexible.
