Description
DESCRIZIONE DESCRIPTION
del brevetto per invenzione industriale dal titolo: of the patent for industrial invention entitled:
The present invention relates to a device for treating animals which can be inserted in an ear tag for marking, and to an ear tag for marking animals, in particular farm animals, provided with such a device.
There is a well-known need to identify individual heads of farm animals, which is also imposed in certain cases by specific regulations on the subject.
For example, the European Union has established a system for the identification and registration of sheep and goats, and has imposed mandatory electronic tagging for these animals. The system provides that all newborns are identified within a time limit (six months from birth and in any case before the animal leaves the farm where it was born), through the application of two distinct traceability: an electronic identifier in the form of a ruminal bolus or electronic ear tag, and a â € œconventionalâ € identifier in the form of an ear tag or tattoo (the latter inapplicable to animals subject to intra-community trade). In the case of animals intended to be slaughtered before the age of twelve months and not intended for intra-community trade or for export to third countries, it will be possible to use the so-called simplified identification, through the application of a single ear tag affixed to the left ear and showing at least the identification code of the company of birth.
Clearly, even where the marking is not required by law, or is provided for with different requirements or methods, a system of identification and registration of the individual items is in any case certainly desirable.
In general, the marking of the garments is carried out through the affixing of ear tags, which are placed in the ear lobes by perforating them.
In fact, the most common ear tags include an element (typically, a plate) in polymeric material, on which identification data of the animal are affixed (through appropriate indications and wordings) and / or equipped with an electronic device that contains such data, and a fastening system to apply the element to the animal's ear, usually by means of a pin or nail that crosses the animal's earlobe and is fixed to a counterpart placed on the other side of the earlobe.
The application of this type of ear tags therefore involves a perforation of the ear lobe of the animal, which produces a deep skin lesion, similar to a trauma wound, with the loss of blood fluids and configuration of a typical situation for the € ™ onset of dermal myiasis.
These parasitic diseases are responsible, especially in the case of sheep and goats (those for which marking is currently mandatory), for serious health problems and huge economic losses; the pathogenic potential that they are capable of expressing is in relation to the onset of secondary infections and the real difficulty of treating them. The pathology is essentially due to the larvae of some insects which are deposited by the adult females directly on the wounds and which feed on the living tissues of the animal, or are subsequently deposited on tissues already in the necrosis phase.
The traumatic action, caused by the larvae on the skin, results in a serious alteration of the tissues and debilitation of the animal which frequently evolves with the loss of the head or the voluntary elimination of the head due to an impact on productivity and welfare of affected animals.
Sarcophagidae), Lucilia sericata, Cochliomya hominivorax (Fam. Calliphoridae). The etiological agents as already mentioned are insects that belong to different families of brachycera dipterans capable of affecting the skin and subcutaneous tissue, body cavities and even internal organs, on which the larvae feed on secretions and necrosed or living tissues . Sheep skin myiasis are the most frequent and due to different species of diptera, typically Wolfarthia magnifica, Crysomia ssp, Calliphora, Sarcophaga (Fam. Sarcophagidae), Lucilia sericata, Cochliomya hominivorax (Fam. Calliphoridae).
In sheep, the most important miasigenic forms are sustained by Wolfarthia magnifica, widespread mainly in southern and eastern European regions, and by Lucilia sericata, present mainly in central Europe. Other calliphorid Diptera such as L. caesar cause secondary infestations, particularly in Northern Europe. The severity of these myiasis varies considerably according to various factors such as: the composition of the parasitic fauna, the conditions of the host, the zootechnical practice and the methods of prophylaxis, as well as the climatic and geographical conditions. W. magnifica traumatic myiasis frequently evolves into a severe form. The W. magnifica species is an obligate parasite and needs the host for the development of the larvae which are unable to live on decaying tissues (carrion). The species Lucilia sericata, on the other hand, is to be considered as an optional parasite as it can use both decaying and living tissues in its biological cycle.
The obligation (and in any case the opportunity) of the marking implies a very high number of animals treated each year and consequently a high incidence of the disease with serious economic damage and suffering on the part of the animals.
Electronic marking is also often carried out by means of ear tags of the type described (provided with suitable electronic identification means), which therefore cause an open wound in the ear lobe.
It is an object of the present invention to provide an ear tag for marking animals, in particular farm animals, which is free from the drawbacks of the known art highlighted here; in particular, it is an object of the invention to provide an ear tag that avoids or drastically reduces the negative results of the perforation of the ear lobe of the animal necessary for the application of the ear tag itself, being at the same time simple and economical to realize, fully effective, easy to use.
The present invention therefore relates to an ear tag for marking animals, in particular farm animals, as defined in essential terms in the attached claim 1 and, in its additional characters, in the dependent claims.
The ear tag of the invention allows to adequately treat the wound produced by the perforation required for the application of the tag itself to the animal, up to complete healing of the ear lobe, carrying out a protective and repellent function that avoids the consequences negative normally associated with perforation; the label of the invention is not only fully effective, but also very simple and inexpensive to make and easy and quick to apply.
The invention is further described in the following non-limiting examples of implementation, with reference to the attached figures in which:
– la figura 1 à ̈ una vista schematica prospettica esplosa di una etichetta auricolare in accordo al trovato; - figure 1 is an exploded perspective schematic view of an ear tag according to the invention;
- figure 2 is a sectional view, with parts out of scale, of the label in figure 1, applied to an animal.
With reference to the attached figures, an ear tag 1 for marking animals, in particular for marking farm animals, comprises a base body 2, a fastening system 3 for fixing the base body 2 to an animal by drilling a ear lobe 4 of the animal, and an active device 5 for treating the wound caused by perforation.
The base body 2, for example made of polymeric material, is shaped to receive identification data of the animal; for example, the base body 2 has a surface 6 on which to affix indications and wordings constituting the identification data of the animal, and / or is equipped with an electronic device (known and not illustrated) that contains such data.
The fastening system 3 comprises a pin 7, intended to cross the ear lobe 4 of the animal to which the label 1 is applied; the pin 7 connects two plates 11, 12 of the label 1 facing each other, arranged in use on opposite faces of the ear lobe 4 of the animal and consisting for example of respective portions of the base body 2 and of an element 13, also made of polymeric material.
The pin 7 can be inserted through the respective seats 14, 15 obtained on the plates 11, 12 to connect the base body 2 to the striker element 13, facing each other, and thus fix the label 1 to the lobe 4 headset of the animal. In the example illustrated, the pin 7 has a central portion 16, for example cylindrical, and, at respective opposite longitudinal ends, a tip 17 and a rear part 18, both radially widened with respect to the central portion 16. The seats 14, 15 and / or the tip 17 of the pin 7 are suitably elastic to allow the insertion of the tip 17 in the seats 14, 15; the seats 14, 15 have respective opposite shoulders which, when the pin 7 is inserted in the seats 14, 15, cooperate with the tip 17 and the rear part 18 of the pin 7 to prevent the pin 7 from slipping out of the seats 14, 15.
It is understood that the fixing system 3 may be different from the one described here purely by way of example.
The active device 5 comprises a support 20 conveniently shaped and sized, coupled to at least one of the plates 11, 12 and containing an active treatment composition, which contains an active ingredient (where `` active ingredient '' means a substance or mixture of substances) with biocidal and in particular bactericidal activity, or in any case with protective and / or repellent action (in particular, towards insects) for the protection of the wound caused by perforation.
Preferably (but not necessarily), the support 20 comprises two parts 21, 22, arranged on opposite sides of the ear lobe 4 of the animal and around the pin 7 and associated with respective plates 11, 12, i.e. respectively to the base body 2 and to the matching element 13; each of the two parts 21, 22 is, in use, arranged between the tissue of the animal's ear and one of the two plates 11, 12 of label 1. In this way, the support 20 is located, in use, on both sides of the animalâ € ™ s tissue and acts as an insulator between the hole produced by the pin 7 in the animalâ € ™ s ear lobe 4, similar to a wound, and the two plates 11, 12 of label 1.
The shape and size of the support 20 can be different, also depending on the type, structure and size of the animal species to which the label 1 is intended (and therefore also the shape and size of the label 1 in the as a whole).
Preferably, the support 20 (and in the case each of its parts 21, 22) is shaped in the shape of a disc and has a circumference between a few millimeters and a few centimeters and a thickness between about 200 microns and a few tens of millimeters. The thickness can also vary and is chosen according to the animal species to be treated and the amount of active ingredient that is to be anchored and conveyed.
The support 20 and in the case each part 21, 22 are suitably punched and shaped so as to have (in a central or eccentric position) a through opening or incision 23 in the shape of a circle, cross or other shape capable of allowing the passage of the pin. 7, through which the two plates 11, 12 are interlocked and anchored one to the other.
The support 20 is characterized by a density and a porosity chosen according to the technical characteristics of the label 1 and the quantity and chemical formulation of the active principle to be conveyed on the support.
Il supporto può essere realizzato con differenti tipologie di materiali, per esempio: The support can be made with different types of materials, for example:
- materiali polimerici, in particolare materiali polimerici porosi, spugnosi e/o espansi, quali resine poliuretaniche espanse sia a cellule aperte sia chiuse, polimeri polistirenici, poliesteri, gomme naturali e sintetiche, epossidi ed altro materiale polimerico di sintesi variamente conformato per le funzioni esposte; - polymeric materials, in particular porous, spongy and / or expanded polymeric materials, such as expanded polyurethane resins both with open and closed cells, polystyrene polymers, polyesters, natural and synthetic rubbers, epoxides and other synthetic polymeric material variously shaped for the functions exposed ;
- materiali cartacei a base cellulosica, costituiti da fibre cellulosiche trattate e processate secondo tecnologie cartacee ed assimilabili; - cellulosic-based paper materials, consisting of cellulosic fibers treated and processed according to paper and similar technologies;
- textile materials, both deriving from orthogonal weaving processes and by knitting and according to the preparation procedures of non-woven fabric in the form of carded, traditional needle punched and other types of interlacing (â € œspun laceâ €) including use of adhesives, â € œmelt bondingâ €, but more conveniently in the form of material produced by interlacing with water needles (â € œwater entanglementâ €).
According to a preferred embodiment, the support is made of textile fibers, advantageously belonging to the class of natural fibers and those of artificial origin. The fiber that best lends itself to the realization of the support is natural cotton due to its absorption and slow release of the product. The cotton fibers used only undergo physical treatments similar to carding and combing or both physical and chemical treatments. A mild treatment with chlorine-based products can be used for the bleaching of the product and for its sanitization where necessary. The cotton fibers should preferably not undergo chemical treatments similar to the mercerization processes which drastically reduce their porosity and the absorption capacity of liquids and therefore of solutions carrying the active principle. Mercerization and related processes can be carried out by treatments with caustic soda or ammonia in a liquid and anhydrous state. The fibers used must also preferably be free from residues of formaldehyde and other contaminants deriving from the preparation and treatment of the raw product.
The most effective product consists of a TNT (non-woven) support of pure cotton transformed into initial felt by carding and subsequently interlaced by means of a â € œwater-jetâ € system with water needles with variable pressure from 50 at 200 bar (â € œwater entangledâ €).
Il prodotto finale si presenta in forma di tessutonon-tessuto con le seguenti caratteristiche: The final product is presented in the form of non-woven fabric with the following characteristics:
- weight per square meter between about 10 and about 300 g; - mechanical resistance between about 15 and about 300 kg (breaking strength).
On the support, and in particular on the cotton support, sanitization treatments are optionally performed.
The support contains an active composition with bactericidal and, more generally, biocidal activity. Preferably, the composition contains, as an active principle with biocidal action, aluminum chloride in its various hydration forms in maximum concentrations of 100 ppm.
In any case, any substance or mixture of substances with bactericidal or more generally biocidal action can be conveyed to the support.
For example, the active composition is applied in the form of a solution and the support, for example the support made of pure cotton TNT, is subjected to soaking with this solution by immersion, impregnation, spraying by means of nozzles during the passage on a special system to rollers or conveyor belt.
The application of the active composition on the support can however be performed in different ways.
Advantageously, the chosen system should allow a homogeneous distribution of the active composition (and therefore of the active principle) on the support.
The formulation of the active composition can be modulated according to the chosen distribution and anchoring system. It may consist of a simple aqueous or hydro-alcoholic solution or in another solvent depending on the chemical characteristics of the active ingredient chosen.
The formulation of the active principle (which, remember, can be a mixture of substances) may also include the forms of suspension and dispersion in water through the use of numerous types of ionic and non-ionic surfactants. The density of the formulations can be suitably modulated by using thickeners or by resorting to small additions of acrylic or other polymeric resins. The thickeners or binders can also be used to improve the adhesion of the active principle and to anchor a desired quantity greater than that allowed by the simple aqueous solution or solvent. The thickeners allow the preparation of high viscosity formulations able to be distributed, if considered advantageous, with spreading or laminating systems. It is also possible to convey the active principle in a polymeric film of various thickness which is then anchored, for example by using adhesives, to the support.
The active ingredient is chosen for example, according to the final characteristics of the product, between:
- sostanze di origine vegetale con semplice funzione di repellente degli insetti, come estratti ed essenze tal quali di piante (ad esempio olio di anice, chiodi di garofano, olio di menta, olio di bergamotto, olio di cocco, olio di pino, catrame di betulla, olio di eucalipto, piretro, canfora, olio di geranio, olio di cannella, olio di timo, olio di citronella, olio di menta, eccetera) o sostanze da essi isolati come la canfora, così come equivalenti di sintesi di tali sostanze come, per la canfora, timolo e piretroidi; - substances of vegetable origin with a simple function of insect repellent, such as extracts and essences as they are of plants (for example anise oil, cloves, mint oil, bergamot oil, coconut oil, pine oil, tar of birch, eucalyptus oil, pyrethrum, camphor, geranium oil, cinnamon oil, thyme oil, lemongrass oil, mint oil, etc.) or substances isolated from them such as camphor, as well as synthetic equivalents of these substances as, for camphor, thymol and pyrethroids;
- repellenti di sintesi quali DEET (N,N-dietil-metatoluamide) e similari; - synthetic repellents such as DEET (N, N-diethyl-metatoluamide) and similar;
- piretroidi di sintesi e sostanze connesse ed utilizzate come sinergizzanti quali il piperonilbutossido ed affini; - synthetic pyrethroids and related substances and used as synergists such as piperonyl butoxide and similar;
- synthetic insecticides commonly used in agriculture, zootechnics and civil use for the control of warehouses and foodstuffs; among these the most common are: diazinone, Coumaphos Pirimiphos Methyl, piperonyl butoxide, beta-cyfluthrin, Zetacypermethrin, Lambdacyhalothrin, Endosulfin; insecticides with larvicidal action such as abamectin (avermectins B1a and B1b), avermectin, ivermectin, etc.
The choice of the active ingredient is made according to the destination of the device.
The simple repellents can be applied for zootechnical activities that adopt biological and integrated control systems, permethrins and pyrethroids for lactating animals.
The choice can also be targeted according to the target environment and therefore according to the infesting fauna.
According to a variant, the support 20 is constituted, instead of an element of the type described above, by a portion of the label 1 and in particular of one or both plates 11, 12. The active composition, instead of being applied on the support 20 which is then in turn applied to the label 1, it is applied directly to one or more portions of the label 1, for example to the plates 11, 12, which therefore constitute the support 20.
In this case, the active composition still contains the active ingredients indicated above, but it will be suitably formulated to be distributed directly on the polymeric material of label 1 and adhere to it.
For example, the active composition can be prepared in the form of dispersion, suspension, solution, or be based on gelatins, synthetic or natural adhesive polymers with different viscosity, elasticity and hardness inside which the active principle is dispersed. The polymers used for the active composition can consist of synthetic polymeric binders, in particular urethane, polyolefin, silicone, vinyl (including acrylics) and others capable of carrying the selected active ingredients. For dispersed or emulsion systems, traditional formulations can be used using thickeners and gelling agents and among these for example: collagen, derived cellulose (ethyl-, methyl-, hydroxypropylcellulose, etc.), alginic acids and other types of macromolecules of biological or semi-synthetic origin in able to absorb an active substance and deliver it in a semi-solid and / or viscous form. Other types of gels and dispersed systems can be formulated with synthetic polymers such as polyacrylamide derivatives. The liquid formulations can be made simply with oily and hydrophobic solutions with high permanence. All the substances formulated as above can be distributed with spray nozzles and sprays or in any other form on the external parts of label 1 and remain until complete healing of the ear lobe 4, carrying out their protective and repellent function.
Finally, it is understood that further modifications and variations may be made to the ear tag described and illustrated here, which do not depart from the scope of the attached claims.
