Descrizione dell’invenzione avente per titolo: Description of the invention entitled:
“SISTEMA A SOFFIETTO, PARTICOLARMENTE PER ROTORI DI ELICOTTERI” "BELLOWS SYSTEM, ESPECIALLY FOR HELICOPTER ROTORS"
DESCRIZIONE DESCRIPTION
The present invention generally relates to a bellows system with improved performance. Specifically, the present invention relates to a bellows system to be applied to a rotor of a helicopter, in particular to the tail rotor.
In the following, specific reference will be made to the tail rotor of a helicopter, it being understood that the bellows according to the invention is also applicable to the main rotor.
The tail rotor is a system necessary to ensure the stability of the helicopter in flight following the torque generated by the main rotor. Rotors are systems formed by two or more blades connected to a hub keyed on a shaft rotated by the motors. In the particular case of a tail rotor, during flight, an excursion along the axis of the shaft is possible at the hub. This movement is generally not caused by the pilot but a consequence of the aerodynamic forces to which the helicopter is subjected.
By virtue of this movement, it is necessary to have a system on the rotor shaft, generally elastic, capable of absorbing the forces and oscillations of the rotor and at the same time limiting its excursion. It is also necessary to have a device that protects the kinematic part of the rotor, acting as an anti-dust, anti-rust and water protection.
For this purpose, an elastic bellows is usually arranged on the rotor shaft, integral with the shaft and therefore rotating with it, capable of compressing or extending according to the movements of the rotor and to perform said anti-dust and anti-rust tasks.
Such a bellows of the known art is generally made in a closed circular shape of fluorosilicone material and arranged at the base of the rotor blades. In this case, the assembly takes place before installing the blades, in other words by inserting the bellows on the shaft.
A problem that arises with these bellows is related to their duration. Generally, the elastic bellows have an operational life of about 5000 hours of flight, while a rotor can reach up to 20,000 hours before undertaking the necessary maintenance or replacement operations. Another problem is related to the premature rupture of the elastic bellows. In both cases, to proceed with the replacement it is necessary to disassemble the rotor, an operation that carried out in advance with respect to normal maintenance periods involves an excessive waste of time and personnel, as well as unexpected additional costs, also linked to the need to keep the helicopter "stopped". It is therefore necessary to find a solution that does not involve the disassembly of the tail rotor.
An attempt to solve this problem is represented by an “open” bellows, that is with an overlapping lip to be glued, sewn or otherwise assembled in a simple and durable way. The circumference of the bellows is slightly greater than the circumference of the shaft, in order to obtain this overlapping lip. In this case, the bellows can be arranged after the installation of the blades by wrapping the bellows around the shaft and closing the free end normally through appropriate gluing. In case of breakage or replacement, simply remove the old bellows and proceed with the assembly of the new bellows.
However, even in the case of an “open” bellows various problems arise. The performance of the gluing depends not only on the mastics, but also on the affected surface, which is relatively small, and on the ability of the operator. In addition to the aforementioned problem, the overlap generates an imbalance of masses on the bellows which influences the axial deformation of the bellows, presenting a variable traction / compression reaction in the radial direction as it is proportional to the thicknesses. Last but not least, in the case of a bellows integral with the rotating shaft, due to the non-uniform mass distribution, unbalanced and certainly harmful centrifugal forces are generated.
The main object of the present invention is therefore to provide a bellows system, in particular for the tail rotor of a helicopter, capable of eliminating, or at least reducing, the drawbacks mentioned above with reference to the state of the known art.
Another object of the present invention is to provide a bellows system for helicopter rotor, which is simple to manufacture and obtainable at competitive production costs.
These and other purposes, which will appear better later, are achieved in accordance with the invention with the characteristics listed in the attached independent claim 1.
Aspetti vantaggiosi dell’invenzione appaiono dalle rivendicazioni dipendenti. Advantageous aspects of the invention appear from the dependent claims.
According to the invention, therefore, a bellows system is provided, in particular for application on a rotor of a helicopter, consisting of an internal bellows and an external bellows open along the respective cuts, equipped with head ends, in which the external bellows has dimensions such as to fit perfectly on the internal bellows, on which it is glued, after the latter has been placed on the shaft of a rotor in order to obtain a closed section bellows of quick and easy assembly, guaranteeing the at the same time a uniform behavior both in the radial direction and in traction / compression and high mechanical performance and resistance to environmental factors.
Ulteriori caratteristiche dell’invenzione appariranno più chiare dalla descrizione dettagliata che segue, riferita ad una sua forma di realizzazione puramente esemplificativa, e quindi non limitativa, illustrata nei disegni annessi, in cui: Further features of the invention will appear clearer from the detailed description that follows, referring to a purely exemplary embodiment thereof, and therefore not limiting, illustrated in the attached drawings, in which:

Negli uniti disegni, parti o componenti uguali o simili vengono indicati con gli stessi numeri di riferimento, In the accompanying drawings, identical or similar parts or components are indicated by the same reference numbers,
With initial reference to Figure 1, an exploded view is shown of the bellows system according to the invention indicated by the reference number 1, comprising an external bellows 10 and an internal bellows 20. The external and internal bellows 10, 20 have respective ends of head 11, 21 which are arranged around the rotor shaft and remain fixed and in position during compression / traction. The fastening takes place by means of a clamp, not shown, held by a protuberance 17 provided near the head end 11 of the external bellows 10. The bellows have a classic accordion shape with loops or volutes 15, 25 enclosed between ridges 14, 24. Before being assembled, said external and internal bellows 10, 20 are open along respective longitudinal cuts 13. Figures 3a, 4a, 5a show the head views of the internal, external bellows and of the two assembled bellows. Figures 3b, 4b, 5b show the respective side views of the previous figures, in initial extension. Figures 5c and 5d show the double bellows system in maximum extension and minimum extension. As can be seen, the head ends remain fixed with respect to the shaft 40 shown in broken lines, while the body of the bellows compresses or extends depending on the load acting on them.
This is due to the fact that at the tail ends 18, 28 of the bellows 10, 20 there is an internally protruding protuberance 30 which lodges in a groove 31 of an element 32 (see in particular Fig. 5b) which rotates around the shaft. 40, but not axially fixed.
In the preferred but non-limiting embodiment illustrated in the various figures, the bellows have three loops enclosed between four ridges.
The dimensions of the external bellows 10 are such as to fit perfectly on the internal bellows 20, that is, in use, the end 11 wraps around the end 21 and the ridges 14 of the bellows 10 cover the respective ridges 24 of the bellows 20. Consequently, the length of the bellows two bellows is the same.
The bellows system 1 according to the invention is shown assembled in Figure 2 released from the shaft of a rotor. The two external and internal bellows 10, 20 are mounted on each other with their respective cuts 13, 23 arranged diametrically opposite, or offset by 180 °. The cuts 13, 23 in Figure 2 are purely illustrative, and leave an open space of minimal size. In this way, the entire surface of the shaft is covered, and the imbalances in mass and thickness are minimized.
The assembly of the bellows system on the shaft of a helicopter rotor already complete with blades is relatively simple. First the internal bellows 20 is placed on the rotor shaft. The bellows hole fits almost perfectly with the circumference of the shaft, without the need to overlap the edges, but leaving a minimum space at the cut 23 (see, as an example, fig. 2). Subsequently, a layer of glue is placed on the internal bellows 20 in particular in the loops or volutes 25, especially on the side opposite the cut 23, and on the head and tail ends. The external bellows 10 is then placed on the internal bellows 20, after having deposited some glue in the loops 15, so that the cut 13, as previously mentioned, is offset by 180 ° with respect to the cut 23. To keep the two bellows 10 together , 20 for the time necessary for the glue to “set”, knotted rubber cords are temporarily arranged in the loops of the external bellows. In this way a compact double bellows is obtained with the same characteristics of a closed section bellows.
The solution of the double bellows, with each element open and the cuts 13, 23 thus arranged at 180 °, therefore amplifies the surface intended for gluing, facilitates the arrangement of the mastic in the bellows loops and gives rise to a system of relatively balanced masses. The traction / compression behavior is little influenced having kept the thicknesses constant.
For gluing, a mastic must be used which, once "set", does not become rigid. The best solution is RTV silicone mastic, which crosslinks at room temperature. The choice of this glue requires the use of products made of compatible materials, i.e. silicone compounds. Nevertheless, with this solution the mechanical performances at various temperatures are maintained and even improved. The bellows thus obtained are relatively poorer but consequently less expensive.
Conveniently, for the replacements of the bellows system according to the invention, a special kit is provided including the two closed or already open bellows, a tube of RTV putty and a silicone rubber cord to be cut into the desired lengths. The arrangement and replacement of the bellows is therefore carried out without the need to procure additional material than that provided in the kit, guaranteeing, among other things, the compatibility of the material and its gluing.
On the assembled bellows system, holes of limited size 41 can be drilled in order to allow the passage of air and recirculation in the double-bellows system and avoid the creation of vacuum inside it.
In this way a double puff system is obtained formed by two open bellows which has the same characteristics as a closed section bellows, and which can therefore be installed without the need to disassemble the system in which it must be inserted, thus reducing maintenance and replacement costs.
Numerous modifications and variations in detail within the reach of a person skilled in the art can be made to the embodiment of the invention described above, however falling within the scope of the invention expressed by the attached claims.
