DESCRIZIONE DESCRIPTION
The present invention relates to a method and an apparatus for carrying out the sterilization of footwear, in particular of shoes. More in detail, the method and the equipment according to the present invention allow to carry out the sterilization of the shoes at the end of their production process, before proceeding with their storage and subsequent transport for the marketing of the product.
The sterilization process, at the end of the footwear production process, is necessary in order to eliminate any bacteria, molds and fungi that may be present and to prevent them from proliferating during the storage and transport period, until the footwear is put on sale.
To perform sterilization, and therefore eliminate bacteria, germs and fungi, it has long been known to subject the object to be sterilized to the action of ultraviolet rays, in fact, these organisms are not able to resist this type of radiation. which causes their death. The prior art includes some equipment for the sterilization of footwear that exploit the action of ultraviolet rays, such as that described in the Japanese patent JP11056982 which is intended for the sterilization of slippers.
The sterilization equipment described in JP11056982 includes a conveyor belt for slippers that are moved through a sterilization tunnel, equipped inside with a bactericidal lamp that generates ultraviolet rays.
One of the major drawbacks of conventional sterilization equipment is the ineffectiveness of the sterilization process which causes the survival of some bacteria, molds and fungi, which are therefore free to reproduce again. In fact, depending on the type of bacteria and fungi, and in relation to their number, the bactericidal action of the ultraviolet ray-generating lamp could be ineffective if, for example, the exposure time to the rays of footwear is too limited.
The object of the present invention is to overcome the problems of the prior art and to propose a method and an apparatus for the sterilization of footwear which is capable of eliminating most, if not all, of the bacteria and fungi present in them. . A further purpose of the present invention is to provide a method and an apparatus for sterilizing footwear that is fast and at the same time effective and that can be used for the sterilization of footwear already housed inside the relative packages. In fact, a further object of the present invention is to allow the sterilization of footwear at the end of the production process, in such a way as to preserve the footwear from the proliferation of bacteria and the generation of mold during the storage and transport period, before sale. These and other purposes are achieved thanks to a method according to claim 1 and to an apparatus according to claim 8 for carrying out the sterilization of footwear, in particular of shoes. Further specific characteristics of the present invention are reported in the respective dependent claims.
The method for the sterilization of footwear is performed by means of a sterilization apparatus comprising one or more sterilization chambers, first means for generating heat and second means for generating ultraviolet rays, as well as at least one device for transporting the footwear from the entrance to the exit of the sterilization chamber (s).
The method is characterized in that it comprises a first phase in which the footwear is transported from the entrance to the exit of the sterilization chamber (s) and a second phase of sterilization of the footwear by heat and by ultraviolet rays inside the chamber, or chambers, of sterilization.
Preferably, the sterilization step comprises a first sterilization step by means of heat only and a subsequent sterilization step by means of ultraviolet rays only.
In fact, the sterilization equipment preferably comprises two separate and consecutive sterilization chambers, in which the means for generating the heat are arranged in the first chamber and the means for generating the heat are placed in the second chamber. In the latter realization, to carry out the sterilization phase, the shoes are transported from the entrance of the first chamber to the exit of the second chamber.
The method according to the present invention comprises the step of packaging the footwear in the relative box or package by means of packaging means which are arranged upstream or downstream of the sterilization chamber or chambers; so that the packaging step is preferably performed before the footwear transport step and before the sterilization step of the same.
Subsequently, a step of sealing the footwear by means of a heat-sealed film or bag is carried out, in fact, a sealing device is arranged downstream of the sterilization chamber or chambers.
The combined use of ultraviolet rays and heat, within the same sterilization chamber, or preferably in two separate chambers, allows to significantly improve the effectiveness of sterilization, ensuring the elimination of bacteria, molds and mushrooms in reduced exposure times.
These improvements are more appreciable in the construction in which at least two separate sterilization chambers are provided, one equipped with means to generate heat and the other equipped with means to generate ultraviolet rays. Furthermore, the sterilization of footwear through the subsequent administration of heat and ultraviolet rays in two separate sterilization chambers and preferably in succession to each other, guarantees better results in terms of sterilization efficacy, reducing the time compared to sterilization methods and equipment. conventional type, such as that described in JP11056982.
Furthermore, the possibility of sterilizing footwear even inside the related boxes or packages in which they will be subsequently stored, transported and sold, constitutes a significant advantage of the present invention. In fact, by doing so there is no risk of contaminating the shoes again with the reintroduction of bacteria and fungi during their arrangement in the packs after sterilization.
Finally, by proceeding with the packaging of footwear before their passage through the sterilization chambers, it is also possible to subject the packaging to heat and ultraviolet rays, preventing the latter from transferring bacteria, molds and fungi inside the footwear.
The final sealing phase takes place downstream of the sterilization chamber or chambers by applying a film or heat-sealed plastic bags. Consequently, the footwear and packaging inside which they are stored are completely sealed in their bags at the end of the sterilization phase, eliminating the risk of a reintroduction of bacteria and fungi during storage and transport until sale.
The method and the equipment for sterilization according to the invention can be easily used within the footwear production process, in particular in the final part of the same. In fact, the already formed shoes, preferably arranged inside the packages, are transported easily and quickly through the separate sterilization chambers and preferably in succession, inside which they are first subjected to heat and then to ultraviolet rays. . Further characteristics and advantages of the present invention will become more evident from the following description, made by way of example with reference to the attached figures, in which:
 la Figura 1 è una vista laterale schematica dell’apparecchiatura per la sterilizzazione di calzature secondo la presente invenzione; Figure 1 is a schematic side view of the equipment for the sterilization of footwear according to the present invention;
 la Figura 2 è uno schema a blocchi del metodo do sterilizzazione secondo la presente invenzione; Figure 2 is a block diagram of the sterilization method according to the present invention;
 la Figura 3 è una vista prospettica di un’ulteriore possibile forma di realizzazione dell’apparecchiatura di sterilizzazione secondo la presente invenzione; Figure 3 is a perspective view of a further possible embodiment of the sterilization equipment according to the present invention;
Figure 3A is a schematic plan view of the sterilization equipment of Figure 3.
With reference to Figure 1, the device for sterilizing footwear according to the present invention in its preferred embodiment illustrated here, comprises two sterilization chambers 1 and 2 and a device 3 for transporting footwear 10 from the inlet to the outlet of the chambers 1 and 2. The described embodiment comprises two sterilization chambers 1 and 2, separated and in succession from each other, although, as will be clear to one skilled in the art, depending on the degree of sterilization to be obtained, other chambers may be provided inside which to pass the footwear handled by the transport device 3.
Each sterilization chamber 1 and 2 is equipped with an inlet section and an outlet section through which the shoes are transported for the execution of the sterilization phase. The chambers 1 and 2 are equipped with means for generating heat 4 and for generating ultraviolet rays 5, per se known in the art, to perform the sterilization of footwear. The chambers are preferably shaped in such a way that the shoes inserted inside them receive heat and ultraviolet rays, avoiding dispersion.
According to a preferred embodiment, illustrated in Figure 1, the two sterilization chambers 1 and 2 are separated and arranged in succession; the first chamber is equipped with means for generating heat 4 and the second chamber with means for generating ultraviolet rays 5.
It should be noted that, although explicit reference has been made to two separate sterilization chambers, the protection of the present invention includes an apparatus equipped with a single sterilization chamber equipped with means for generating heat 4 and with means for generating ultraviolet rays 5 In this type of equipment, the shoes transported inside the single chamber are simultaneously subjected to the sterilizing action of heat and ultraviolet rays. Alternatively, it is possible to use a single sterilization chamber in which heat and ultraviolet rays are applied in succession to the footwear.
As can be seen in Figure 1, the means for generating heat 4 of the sterilization chamber 1 include a plurality of electrical resistances 6 connected to the electrical network, or to one or more batteries, which generate heat by the joule effect. A fan 7 operated by an electric motor spreads the heat uniformly on the shoes 10 inside the chamber, as indicated by the arrows in Figure 1. The temperature reached inside the sterilization chamber 1 is preferably in the range 20 - 120 degrees centigrade, and allows to obtain a high efficacy of the sterilization of the footwear without the heat causing the deterioration of the material of which they are made.
The second sterilization chamber 2 is equipped with means for generating ultraviolet rays 5, for example a plurality of UV lamps 8 of a known type for this use. The rays emitted by the lamps 8 strike the shoes 10 inside the chamber. It should be noted that the number of lamps and the power of each of them can vary, and in any case they are such as to guarantee the correct sterilization of the footwear and therefore eliminate bacteria, molds and fungi.
As can be seen in Figure 1, the device 3 for transporting footwear from the entrance to the exit of the sterilization chambers comprises a flat conveyor belt 11 which passes through the two sterilization chambers 1 and 2. The direction of motion of the conveyor belt 11 is indicated by the arrows in Figure 1, and allows the footwear 10 to be moved from the entrance to the exit of the first chamber 1 and subsequently from the entrance to the exit of the second chamber 2. In fact, the conveyor belt 11 passes through each sterilization chamber entering and exiting from two opposite side walls of the chamber. The shoes 10 enter the sterilization chamber 1 in which they are subjected to heat and subsequently enter the second sterilization chamber 2 within which they are subjected to ultraviolet rays. In fact, the sterilization chambers are arranged in succession along the direction of motion of the conveyor belt 11, and preferably, although not necessarily, the two chambers 1 and 2 are communicating with each other since the outlet section of the first sterilization chamber 1 is in communication, or in a facing position, with the inlet section of the second sterilization chamber 2. The speed of the conveyor belt 11 is such as to allow the footwear 10 to remain inside the chambers for a time sufficient to complete the phase of sterilization, i.e. sufficient time to eliminate bacteria, molds and fungi.
Although not shown in detail in Figure 1, the sterilization chambers 1 and 2 can be separated from each other by a separation curtain, or similar means, placed between the outlet section of the first sterilization chamber 1 and the inlet section of the second sterilization chamber 2.
According to a preferential aspect of the present invention, the shoes are placed on the conveyor belt 11, housed inside the packages 20 in which they will be subsequently stored and sold. This constitutes a considerable advantage, since the footwear, once the sterilization operations have been completed, do not have to be subsequently placed in the packages, thus avoiding the risk of a new contamination. Furthermore, by housing the footwear 10 inside the packages 20 before passing inside the sterilization chambers, it is also possible to subject the packages 20 to the sterilizing action of heat and ultraviolet rays, in such a way as to eliminate any bacteria, molds and fungi present both on the packs 20 and on the shoes 10 placed inside.
The equipment according to the present invention can also comprise means for packaging footwear inside a relative box or package. These packaging means, not shown in Figure 1, are preferably arranged upstream of both sterilization chambers 1 and 2, and can be of the fully automated type, or require the intervention of an operator. The packages 20 inside which the shoes have been arranged are placed on the conveyor belt 11 which allows them to be moved from the entrance to the exit from the sterilization chambers 1 and 2. In a possible embodiment, the packaging means of the shoes 10 are arranged downstream of the first sterilization chamber 1 and upstream of the second sterilization chamber 2, ie between the two chambers. This makes it possible to carry out a first sterilization by means of heat of the footwear 10 alone and subsequently, following the packaging upstream of the second chamber 2, the sterilization of the footwear 10 and the packages 20 inside which they have been arranged, by means of the action of ultraviolet rays inside the second sterilization chamber 2.
Furthermore, the sterilization equipment is equipped with a device 16 to seal the packages 20 of the footwear 10 at the end of the sterilization process. Sealing takes place by applying a film or bags of heat-sealed plastic material 22. As can be seen in Figure 1, the sealing device 16 is placed downstream of the second sterilization chamber 2 so that the packages 20 are sealed to the end of the sterilization phase.
Figures 3 and 3A show a further possible embodiment of the sterilization apparatus according to the present invention, in which the device 3 for transporting footwear from the inlet to the outlet of the sterilization chambers 101 and 102 comprises a plane swiveling conveyor 111.
The direction of the rotation motion of the transport plane 111 is indicated by the arrow in Figure 3A, and allows the movement of the footwear 110 and the relative packages 120, from the inlet to the outlet of the first sterilization chamber 101 and subsequently from the inlet. at the outlet of the second sterilization chamber 102. The first chamber 101 is equipped with means for generating heat 104 which include a plurality of electrical resistances 106, while the second chamber 102 is equipped with means for generating ultraviolet rays 105, for example a plurality of UV lamps 108.
As shown in the schematic top view of Figure 3A, the two sterilization chambers 101 and 102 are arranged in succession along the direction of motion of the rotating transport plane 111 and are in communication with each other, allowing the sterilization of footwear 110 by means of the application of heat and ultraviolet rays in succession. This embodiment, unlike that previously described with reference to Figure 1, has small dimensions for a limited footprint, while ensuring a high efficiency of the sterilization process.
With reference to Figures 1 and 2, the steps of the footwear sterilization method according to the present invention will now be described. The packs 20, containing one or more shoes 10, are arranged in succession on the transport device 3 which allows them to be moved from the inlet to the outlet of the sterilization chambers 1 and 2. The packs are arranged in succession in the initial part of the belt conveyor 11 whose direction of translation is represented by the arrows. The packaging phase in which the shoes are housed inside the relative packages within which they will be stored and sold is performed upstream of the sterilization chambers 1 and 2, either automatically or manually. As said, this operation also allows the packages 20 to be subjected to the sterilization process together with the footwear contained therein. Obviously, the sterilization step according to this method is applicable only to footwear 10, although in the attached Figure and hereinafter explicit reference will be made to the sterilization of footwear 10 housed inside the relative packages 20.
The conveyor belt 11 moves the packages 20 in succession from the entrance to the exit of the two sterilization chambers 1 and 2, the first of which is equipped with means 4 to generate heat while the second is equipped with means 5 to generate ultraviolet rays.
The method according to the present invention can provide for the movement of footwear inside additional sterilization chambers with respect to the two described so far, in order to ensure greater effectiveness in the sterilization process.
As shown in Figure 1, the sterilization chambers 1 and 2 can preferably be separated from each other, even if arranged in succession, to form a tunnel inside which the packages 20, moved on the conveyor belt 11, pass in succession. In fact, each package 20 is transported from the inlet to the outlet of the first sterilization chamber 1 inside which the heat produced by suitable means for its generation, for example a plurality of electric resistances 6 and a fan 7, determines the death of at least part of the bacteria, molds and fungi present in the footwear 10 and in the packaging 20 during the sterilization phase. The package 20 is then transported from the entrance to the exit of the second sterilization chamber 2, inside which the ultraviolet rays generated by a plurality of UV lamps 8 eliminate the bacteria, molds and fungi still remaining on the package 20 and in the footwear contained therein.
Subsequently, the sealing step is carried out by means of a sealing device 16 which prepares the packages 20 for storage and transport, protecting them from further contamination. The sealing device is arranged downstream of the second chamber 2 and applies a film or a heat-sealed bag 22 to the packages 20 moved on the conveyor belt 11.
With regard to the steps of the method described above, it will be clear to a person skilled in the art that the essential steps of the sterilization method according to the present invention are two, namely, the step in which the footwear is transported from the inlet to the outlet of the sterilization chamber or chambers and the step of sterilizing footwear by heat and ultraviolet rays inside the sterilization chamber or chambers.
It should also be noted that the translation motion of the conveyor belt 11 can also be temporarily interrupted, by means of a control device, when the package 20 is inside one of the sterilization chambers in such a way as to increase the t e m p or d i permanence inside. and thus improve the bactericidal effect of the sterilization phase.
Furthermore, as will be clear to a person skilled in the art, the sterilization chambers can be shaped in a different way from that described herein, without thereby departing from the scope of protection of the present invention. For example, in a further possible embodiment, the sterilization chambers can have a single opening that allows both the entry and exit of the footwear, and are arranged in an overlapping or side-by-side position. In this embodiment, the device for transporting the shoes from the entrance to the exit of the sterilization chambers can be constituted by a robot equipped with a mechanical arm that moves the shoes, or the packages that contain them, inside and outside the opening. each chamber is equipped with, providing a residence time inside for the execution of the sterilization phase.
