Description
TESTO DELLA DESCRIZIONE TEXT OF THE DESCRIPTION
The invention refers to machines for packaging prepackaged products in preformed cardboard boxes and concerns a new method and a related apparatus for the automatic feeding of such boxes to the aforementioned machines, to ensure them substantially unlimited operating autonomy.
In the known art, the preformed and flattened cardboard boxes are inserted in stacks in the feeding magazine of the packaging machine, where the same boxes are in a horizontal position or are inclined and where means are provided for cyclically extracting the bottom box from the magazine. and to transfer it to the means of use that will open it, insert the product and then close it. In the known art it is necessary for a person to be stationed almost continuously at the machine magazine, to supply it cyclically with boxes. The invention proposes a method and a relative apparatus for considerably increasing the autonomy of operation of the means for feeding the boxes to a packaging machine, up to the point of not requiring the presence of an operator for the periodic supply of boxes to the supply warehouse. , as instead is required by the known art. Currently, the cardboard boxes arrive from the production paper industry stacked on a pallet and to ensure stability to the stack, due to the unevenly distributed thickness of the flattened boxes, due to the overlapping of the junction edge on one of the side walls, the same boxes are alternatively offset by one hundred and eighty degrees, so that the stack is perfectly straight. For this reason, the operator who currently supplies boxes to the packaging machine feed warehouse must be careful to always insert the boxes in the warehouse with a predetermined orientation.
According to the invention, at least one stack of boxes placed on the relative loading pallet is fed semiautomatically or automatically, for example by means of a wire-guided fork carriage, on the end of a horizontal conveyor, placed in correspondence with the packaging machine and on the opposite end of this conveyor there is a lifting unit which on command is positioned at the height of said conveyor to receive the pallet with the stack of boxes, after which this unit is raised by an amount necessary to carry the top of the stack of boxes to the working share of means operating by suction, which cyclically pick up the upper box and transfer it to subsequent means of use, while the said lifting unit cyclically increases its position at height after each withdrawal and transfer of the upper box, to make that the top of the stack of boxes remains constantly at a predetermined height. The said means for gripping and transferring the boxes from the stack are associated with optoelectronic sensors, aimed at a distinctive sign of the boxes themselves and if this sign is not detected, it means that the underlying box is not oriented correctly for insertion into the machine with only translation movement of said gripping means. According to the invention, the means for gripping and transferring the boxes are designed to be able to rotate on command on a vertical axis, so that when said sensors detect that the box is not correctly oriented, the same gripping means equally grip the box. and while they transfer it to the subsequent means of use, they rotate it by a right amount around a vertical axis, so as to correctly orient it. On the part of said gripping and transfer means, the box is positioned in a station for any accumulation and alignment and centering with respect to the subsequent means of use to which it will then be transferred with suitable means. When the boxes have been used up, immediately after the last box has been picked up by said gripping and transfer means, the lifting unit arranges itself to unload the empty pallet onto removal means and then it is placed in the pick-up position. a new pallet loaded with boxes, to then rapidly rise to the position of cooperation with said gripping and transfer means. The empty pallet can advantageously be transported underneath the conveyor for feeding the full pallets, so that it can be picked up and removed from the same fork carriage that transports the full pallets.
The main features of the invention, and the resulting advantages, will become clearer from the following description of a preferred embodiment thereof, illustrated purely by way of non-limiting example, in the figures of the two attached drawing tables, in which:

From figure 1 it can be seen that the apparatus comprises a horizontal and motorized conveyor 1, consisting for example of a roller conveyor, which, when it runs in the direction indicated by the arrow 2 and laterally to which parallel and fixed guides 3, 3 'are arranged, adjustable in the reciprocal distance for adaptation to pallets of different dimensions and characterized by having a correct opening in correspondence with the initial part of the conveyor 1 on which a fork carriage, not shown, for example wire-guided, deposits on command a pallet 4 loaded with example of at least one stack5 of preformed and flattened boxes. 5 'indicates the groups of boxes that are stacked in a staggered manner, with a rotation of one hundred and eighty degrees around the vertical. It is understood that the boxes can be offset from each other in quantities even different from those indicated, for example one by one. Under the conveyor 1 there is a conveyor 6, also motorized, consisting for example of a composite roller, which when commanded to run in the opposite direction to that of said upper conveyor, as indicated by the arrow 7. The conveyor 6 is longer than the conveyor 1 and protrudes downstream of this for a suitable length. Downstream of the conveyor 1 there is an lifting unit arranged to receive the pallet 4 loaded from the stack 5 of boxes from the conveyor 1. According to a preferred but not unique embodiment of the invention, the said lifting unit is constituted by a fork 8 oriented with its teeth in the direction useful for gripping the pallet 4 and connected to guide and movement means schematically indicated by 9. 1 teeth of the fork 8 are optionally provided with means for the sliding on them of the blade with rolling friction, for example with respective rows of rollers 10, 10 'or with other suitable means, such as for example roller chains which, according to a possible execution can also be motorized, so that the advancement of the pallet on the teeth of the fork can take place without friction. By means of said means 9 the fork 8 is lowered on command and brought downstream of the conveyor 1, in such a position that by activating said conveyor, the loaded pallet 4 enters the said fork. Appropriate sensors, not shown, are provided to stop the conveyor 1 when the pallet 4 with the stack 5 has correctly entered the fork 8. In succession, the fork 8 is raised enough to position the top of the stack 5 at the working height of a gripping head 11 used for gripping and transferring the boxes, operating by suction and mounted on means which, upon command, cause it to translate horizontally in a direction, for example, orthogonal to the longitudinal axis of the conveyors 1 and 6, as shown schematically by arrows 12, said head 11 being associated with said translation means, with the interposition of lifting and lowering means, as schematically indicated by arrows 13 and by means of rotation around a vertical axis, as schematically indicated by arrows 14. At or near the head 11, with support on a fixed part not illustrated, is provided at least an optoelectronic sensor 15, with adjustable aiming, to detect a distinctive sign present in a well determined area of the stacked boxes and this sensor is operationally connected with the means that can rotate the head 11 around the vertical axis. The means 11 lower onto the stack 5, grasp the upper box 105, then lift it to detach it from the underlying box and, in the right phase, translate horizontally in the direction of the arrows 12. In this phase, if the sensor 15 has detected the reference mark on the box 105, this means, for example, that the box itself is correctly oriented for re-insertion in the subsequent means of use. If the sensor 15 has not instead detected reference marks on the box, the head 11 performs a rotation of one hundred and eighty degrees in the direction of the arrows 14 and remains with the new orientation as long as the box 105 has been unloaded on the subsequent means of use. In the example of Figures 1 and 2 it has been assumed that the boxes placed on the stack 5 are oriented with the mouths in a direction orthogonal to the direction of translation 12 of the head 11. However, it is not excluded that the stacked boxes are oriented with the mouths parallel to the direction 12 of translation of the head 11, in which case the same head 11 will be predisposed to perform alternating rotations of ninety degrees, in the sense that if the sensor 15 detects a reference mark on the removed box, the head 11 translates and rotates by ninety degrees in one direction, while if the said sensor does not detect the said reference mark on the box, the head 11 translates and rotates by ninety degrees in the opposite direction.
On the part of the head 11, the box 105 is correctly oriented, can be inserted into the traditional vertical magazine of a packaging machine, where the boxes are arranged horizontally and from the bottom of which they are then extracted one by one by known means, or it can be transferred to means that insert it in a traditional inclined magazine, or, as in the example in question, it can be deposited on the initial part of a horizontal conveyor 16 formed for example by a pair of motorized belts parallel to each other and to the direction of translation 12 , which are initially stationary and on command run in the direction indicated by arrow 17. Once the box 105 has been unloaded onto the stationary belts 16, the head 11 rises and returns to the stack 5 for repetition of a new work cycle, while it rotates of one hundred and eighty or ninety degrees in the direction of the arrows 14, to get ready in the correct position for gripping a subsequent box. The means 9 have in the right phase increased the lifting of the lifting fork 8 by a step equal to the thickness of the previously extracted box, so that the top of the stack 5 is always correctly arranged for subsequent cooperation with the gripping head 11.
The box 105 positioned on the conveyor 16 is correctly centered and aligned on this conveyor by means of straight squares 18, 18 ', parallel to the longitudinal axis of the conveyor 16 itself and activated in a self-centering way by actuators 19, 19', after which the the same brackets partially retract and the same conveyor 16 is activated to transfer the box 105 in its terminal part 116, above fixed guide means 20, without interfering with these and in the station K, where known means are provided, not illustrated , who open the box and fill it with product. The terminal part 116 of the conveyor 16, on which the box full of product rests, is articulated on a transverse and intermediate axis 21 and is connected to actuators not illustrated, which on command cause the same conveyor part 116 to oscillate downwards, as indicated in figure 1 with dashed sign, so that the box full of product rests on the guide means 20 and can be subsequently evacuated towards the closing means, by means of known type, as schematically indicated by the arrow 22. Once evacuation has taken place of the full box, the end part 116 of the conveyor 16 returns to the horizontal position for the repetition of a new cycle. The described cycle is repeated in the manner described, with the great autonomy of operation ensured by the stack 5 of boxes. When the gripping and transfer means 11 take the last box of the stack 5, sensors 23 mounted for example on the fork 8 or placed in correspondence with it but on a fixed structure, not shown, detect the lack of boxes on the pallet 4 and command the rapid descent of the fork 8 with the empty pallet, as long as the same pallet is deposited on the conveyor 6 which is subsequently activated to transfer the pallet on the same front of the conveyors on which the forklift truck is stationed which in the meantime has positioned a new pallet loading a stack of boxes onto the conveyor 1, so that said empty pallet can for example be evacuated from said trolley. The fork 8 is subsequently raised to the height of the conveyor 1 and this conveyor is activated to transfer the new pallet loaded with boxes onto the same fork 8 which then rises and prepares itself for cooperation with the gripping head 11. To ensure continuity of operation of the machine to be packaging, even during the unloading phase of the empty pallet and the gripping and repositioning of the new pallet loaded with boxes and to allow a sufficiently long implementation time of this phase, if the presence of a warehouse served by the gripping head 11 is not foreseen, a small accumulation device can be arranged in the initial part of the conveyor 16, capable of containing a small quantity of boxes placed, for example, one above the other, as illustrated schematically in figure 3. From this figure it can be seen that the brackets 18, 18 'are oversized in height with respect to their function and end sup eriorly with a diverging edge towards the outside, with invitation functions. Above the portion intended for contact with the box to be oriented on the conveyor 16, the brackets 18, 18 'carry at least two fingers 24, 24' perpendicularly protruding from the internal sides and with positioning on an ideal horizontal plane. for each bracket, operated by respective actuators 25, 25 '. The gripping head 11 deposits the boxes 105 on the fingers 24, 24 'which are then withdrawn by the actuators 25, 25' to allow the box itself to fall onto the underlying conveyor 16. With this device it is possible to create an accumulation of three boxes (one on the initial part of the conveyor 16, one on the retractable fingers 24, 24 'and one under the gripping head 11), sufficient to allow the implementation of the steps of unloading the exhausted pallet and gripping a subsequent pallet with one or more stacks of boxes .
In fact, from figure 4 it can be seen that on the pallet 4 two stacks 5 and 5a of boxes can be placed one next to the other and both on the trajectory of translation 12 of the gripping head 11. In this case the head 11 will first pick up the boxes from the stack 5, with a short translation stroke 12 and then it will pick up the boxes from stack 5a with an elongated translation stroke 12 '. The translation movement of the gripping head will be controlled by an electronically controlled speed and phase motor, which can be easily governed by the process unit that controls the automatic operation of the apparatus. Figure 4 illustrates the case in which the boxes stacked on the pallet 4 are oriented with the mouths parallel to the direction of translation 12 or 12 ', so that the gripping head 11 will pick up the boxes from the stacks with a simultaneous rotation of ninety degrees around the vertical axis, in one direction or the other according to whether the sensor 15 has detected or has not detected a reference mark on the box during the feeding phase.
Figure 5 instead illustrates the hypothesis according to which pallets 4 can be fed to the apparatus with four stacks of boxes, indicated respectively with 5, 5a, 5b and 5c. In this case the stacks of boxes are placed side by side both in the direction of the translation of the gripping head and orthogonally to this direction. In order to be able to pick up the boxes from the different stacks, the gripping head 11 must be able to perform both translation movements in the aforementioned direction 12 and movements orthogonal to this direction. For this purpose, the gripping head will be mounted on two orthogonal guide and slide units, controlled by respective motors with electronic speed and phase control, which will be piloted so as to first pick up the boxes from stack 5, then from stack 5a, then from that 5b and finally from that 5c, with indicative translation on the trajectories 12, 12 ', 12 ", 12"'.
Finally, from figure 6 it can be seen that according to a construction variant, the pallet lifting unit with the box stack or stacks can be of the unidirectional movement type, formed by a pair of parallel and vertical conveyors 26, 26 ', with synchronized movement , which on command move upwards with the internal sides and which are equipped with shelves 27, 27 'placed two by two at the same height, which laterally take the loaded pallet 4 from the conveyor 1 and carry it in the necessary elevation movement . When a pallet is unloaded and is in the high position, pushers evacuate it from the relative support brackets and transfer it to removal means, not shown, while a new loaded pallet is available on the conveyor 1, above respective brackets. 27, 27 ', ready for lifting this pallet. This solution avoids the dead time of descent of the lifting unit for unloading the exhausted pallet, with the obvious advantages that derive from this condition.
It is understood that the description refers to a preferred embodiment of the invention, to which numerous variations and modifications, especially constructive ones, can be made, which can for example refer to the fact that the empty pallets, unloaded on the conveyor 6, are stacked in the right number before being evacuated by the forklift or other means. These and all those modifications that are however intuitable by those skilled in the art, do not go beyond the scope of the invention, as described above, as illustrated and as claimed below. In the claims, the references shown in brackets are purely indicative and do not limit the scope of protection of the claims themselves.
