DISPOSITIVO PER IL CONTROLLO DELLA STABILITA’ DI OGGETTI IN UNA UNITA’ PER LA MANIPOLAZIONE DEGLI STESSI DEVICE FOR CHECKING THE STABILITY OF OBJECTS IN A UNIT FOR HANDLING THEM
DESCRIZIONE DELL'INVENZIONE DESCRIPTION OF THE INVENTION
The present invention is part of the technical sector relating to equipment and devices for the automated handling of objects.
In particular, the invention relates to a device suitable for controlling the stability of such objects while they are manipulated by a unit for their manipulation, that is to say for their recognition, removal and repositioning. The aforementioned units operate mainly in robotic equipment for the management of automatic shops, warehouses, etc.
It is known that the handling of objects in the industrial or logistic field, as well as in the automatic sales unit is generally managed by computerized systems for collection / storage and recovery / return (ASR, "automatic Storage and retrieve) which include, among other things, other, robotic units intended for the manipulation of the same objects. These units can be mounted on self-propelled bases, in the case of large and medium-sized systems; for systems of small dimensions they can be made mobile by means of arms suitably controlled on different degrees of freedom, or with other known modalities of controlled displacement. For example, the various types of vending machines intended for the sale and rental of objects, generally of small size (medicines, snacks, videotapes, DVDs, etc.) belong to the latter category of ASR systems.
In general, the handling devices of the ASR systems mentioned above assume that:
a) l’oggetto da trattare sia riconducibile a un volume noto, ed eventualmente disponga di una cosiddetta “interfaccia di manipolazione”, che può essere ad esempio un pallet o un contenitore di materiale plastico avente dimensioni standard; a) the object to be treated is attributable to a known volume, and possibly has a so-called "handling interface", which can be for example a pallet or a plastic container with standard dimensions;
b) le strutture di immagazzinamento siano pre-organizzate in termini di spazi compatibili con gli ingombri degli oggetti da manipolare, e che siano eventualmente costruite in funzione dell’ interfaccia di manipolazione degli oggetti stessi. b) the storage facilities are pre-organized in terms of spaces compatible with the dimensions of the objects to be handled, and which are possibly built according to the manipulation interface of the objects themselves.
All this leads to a considerable rigidity in the design and use of the aforementioned systems, which makes them substantially unusable in some operational areas, such as for example in the automation of the final phase of the product distribution chain. In these areas, the objects to be handled can have a wide variety of shapes, sizes, weights and textures. For organizational, practical and often cost reasons, they cannot in turn be enclosed in containers having standardized and optimized characteristics for handling with the aforementioned known devices. A particularly innovative device for recognizing, gripping and repositioning objects having non-predetermined dimensional characteristics, is described in a separate patent application filed today by the same Applicant. This device comprises: a support; a gripper unit, associated with the support and movable with respect to the same according to at least a first direction, further provided with a pair of fingers respectively opposite each other, movable in a second direction and able to close and open with respect to each other, to tighten and respectively releasing an object, the fingers also being made to keep mobile in a third approach-away direction with respect to the object; punctual distance measuring means, arranged in correspondence with at least one finger of the gripper assembly and adapted to carry out punctual measurements of the distance between the distal end of the relative finger and the object to allow, in cooperation with suitable sequences of movements of the fingers, the '' carrying out an orthogonal three-dimensional scan of the object; sensor means for the presence of the object, designed to identify the depth of the object, arranged at the distal end of the fingers; a computerized control unit, adapted to drive the gripper assembly and to receive and process information from the punctual distance measuring means and from the presence sensor means.
There is a particularly felt need in the sector of manufacturing robotic handling units, and corresponding handling devices. This need arises from the fact that the latter devices usually pick up the objects by squeezing them between opposing fingers of a gripper unit. The objects picked up, due to their weight, their conformation, the pliability of their casing or particular situations such as temporary humidity, are subject to slide downwards during their lifting. In this way they could fall during transport, or in any case their position with respect to the gripper unit could not be exactly that expected or calculated by the identification and positional control devices of the objects themselves.
An object of the present invention is to provide a device capable of preventing the fall, or even just the sliding downwards, of an object moved by a handling unit as described above.
A further object of the invention is to provide a device capable of also detecting the presence of any slipping of the object to be picked up while it is being lifted by the manipulation unit, and to provide such information to the processor of the latter. to allow for compensation.
The objects mentioned above are entirely achieved, in accordance with the content of the claims, by a device for controlling the stability of objects, operating in a device for handling them. The latter is controlled by a computerized control unit and includes: a support, a mobile gripping unit, associated with the support and able to engage an object to lift and reposition it. The stability control device comprises a fall arrest finger, mounted movably on the aforesaid support, below the movable gripping unit and intended to prevent the fall of an object, and anti-slip means, mounted on the aforesaid anti-fall finger and intended to check that the lifting of the object takes place without slipping with respect to the gripping unit.
The characteristics of the invention, as will appear from the claims, are highlighted in the following detailed description, with reference to the attached drawing tables, in which:

The structure of this base 80, together with the structure and conformation of a monorail guide system 230 on which the base moves, are the subject of separate patent protection, and are described in detail in a further patent application filed today.
The device 10 essentially comprises a support 20, with mainly vertical extension, consisting of a column element 21 fixed below the mobile base 80. The column element 21 conforms a linear guide 22, preferably of the ball recirculation type.
A mobile gripping unit 30 is mounted on the vertical element 21, sliding according to a vertical direction of adjustment of the elevation of the same group with respect to the supporting surfaces of the objects. The gripping unit 30, which in the embodiment illustrated is of the pincer type, is intended to carry out the operations of recognizing and picking up the objects 1 to be treated.
The gripper assembly 30 comprises, in turn, a sliding bracket 31, arranged horizontally and mounted on the vertical element 21. A support body 33 is mounted on a linear guide of the recirculating ball type provided on the sliding bracket 31, perpendicular to the same bracket 31 and sliding in a direction of approaching-moving away of the gripper assembly 30 with respect to the supporting surfaces and the objects present therein.
Mounted on the support body 33 is a pair of gripping fingers 35, 36, parallel to each other, perpendicular to the aforementioned support body 33 and sliding on a linear guide 34. The gripping fingers 35, 36 are made movable with respect to each other. on the other hand, this closing-opening motion is intended to allow the fingers 35,36 to clamp or release an object 1 to be transported.
Mounted in the distal portion of the fingers 35,36 is a punctual distance measuring device 50, suitable for carrying out punctual measurements of the distance between the distal end of the relative finger 35,36 and an object 1 to be analyzed.
The device 10 further comprises the aforementioned movable stability control device 60, mounted vertically sliding on the support 20, below the aforementioned gripper assembly 30, and also controlled by the control unit of the handling unit 100. stability control device 60 is intended to prevent the fall of an object to be picked up and to control its sliding when it is lifted by the gripper assembly 30, according to the methods which will become clear below.
The stability control device 60 comprises, in particular, a fall arrest unit 60a, intended to prevent the fall of an object 1 from the gripper assembly 30, and anti-slip means 60b, mounted on the aforementioned fall arrest assembly 60a and intended to control that the lifting of the the object takes place without slipping with respect to the aforementioned gripper unit 30.
In particular, the anti-fall assembly 60a comprises a second sliding shelf 61, mounted horizontally on the support 20 and provided with suitable prismatic linear guides 62.
A second support body 63 is mounted horizontally and cantilevered on the second sliding bracket 61 and substantially parallel to the first support body 32 of the gripper assembly 30, and can slide on the aforementioned guides 62.
On the second support body 62 there is a horizontally cantilevered finger 66, perpendicular to the same second support body 62 and directed towards the objects 1 to be supported. The anti-fall finger 66 can be operated, together with the second support body 62 and in phase relationship with rationing of the gripper assembly 30, in the direction of approach to the object 1, to position itself immediately below the bottom of the object to be picked up, for prevent it from falling.
Also mounted on the second support body 62, near the anti-fall finger 66, optical distance measuring means 67, electrically connected to the control unit, substantially constituted by a commercially available laser distance sensor, and by a prismatic lens 68.
The sensor 67 is adapted to emit a collimated laser beam, and to receive the corresponding beam reflected from a surface which intercepts its optical axis 69 to measure the distance of the surface itself. The prismatic lens 68 is suitably arranged in correspondence with the optical axis 69 of the sensor 67, to deflect the laser beam and orient it towards the direction of measurement, making it pass immediately above the anti-fall finger 66.
The sensor 67 is thus able to measure the distance between the sensor itself, and therefore between the tip of the anti-fall finger 66, and the nearest surface suitable for reflecting the laser beam and returning it to the sensor.
This distance can be measured with fully known techniques, for example with the technique known as "flight time", which measures the round trip time of the beam. Measurement devices using this technique generally offer lower resolution than those using, for example, a triangulation measurement technique. However, the working range is considerably wider than that allowed by this last technique, and the cost of the device is significantly lower. The operation of the fall arrest device 60 described above will be detailed in the following with particular, but not limitative, reference to its use in the aforementioned manipulation unit 100 for recognizing and picking up an object 1.
In a first phase of approach and recognition of the object, the central computer of the automated shop (or warehouse) provides the control unit of the picking device with 10 general positional information on the location of an object 1 to be picked up. The handling and transport unit 100, of which the device 10 is part and which is generally, although not necessarily, controlled by the same control unit as the device 10, then moves to the object 1 to be picked up. The vertical movement of the gripper group 30 is then commanded until it reaches the height of object 1.
The next phase involves identifying the shape of object 1. In this regard, the control unit commands the execution of a programmed sequence of combined movements of the fingers 35.36 in the longitudinal direction. For each significant point identified, a distance measurement is then carried out by triangulation by the point distance measuring device 50.
Subsequently, the control unit commands the positioning of the fall arrest device 60 in a position immediately below the bottom of the object 1. This is obtained by measuring the distance of the object 1 by means of the laser sensor 67, and detecting the sudden change in distance which occurs at the bottom edge of the object.
The lifting operation of the object 1 below comprises an initial lifting phase of the same, carried out with a vertical sliding of the gripper assembly 30. At the same time, the fall arrest assembly 60a is operated in such a way as to keep the fall arrest finger 66 always immediately below. of the bottom edge of the object. This is done by positioning the fall arrest assembly 60a in such a way that the laser beam emitted by the sensor 67 illuminates an area immediately below the lower edge of the object 1. During the raising phase of the gripper assembly 30, the fall arrest assembly 60a is raised by the same share. In the event that the object 1 begins to slip from the grip of the gripper assembly 30, its lower edge will affect the laser beam 67, causing a significant variation in the flight time it takes to travel back towards the sensor 67. In this case , the control unit will search again for the lower edge of the object.
A possible beginning of sliding downward of the object itself is thus detected by the control unit by means of an appropriate control of the height difference between the gripper group 30 and the fall arrest group 60a. In the event of a significant variation in this difference, the control unit itself can decide whether to increase the clamping force of the gripping fingers 35.36 or to abort the lifting operation.
If there is no sliding, when a predetermined initial lifting height is reached, the second support body 63 is commanded to slide towards the object 1, until the anti-fall finger 66 is inserted under the object 1, stabilizing it. the position and preventing it from falling. At this point, object 1 can possibly be raised again, and then transported to a new location.
