L’invenzione si colloca nel settore dei dispositivi da utilizzare in ortodonzia al fine di ottenere il giusto allineamento dei denti. The invention is placed in the sector of devices to be used in orthodontics in order to obtain the correct alignment of the teeth.
Come à ̈ noto, gli elementi dentali si muovono quando sono sottoposti alle forze ortodontiche. Per ottenere il movimento dentale à ̈ necessaria, quindi, una forza ortodontica data da un attacco (bracket) che si incolla sul dente, e da un filo ortodontico di allineamento che si inserisce negli attacchi. As is well known, dental elements move when subjected to orthodontic forces. To obtain the dental movement it is therefore necessary an orthodontic force given by an attachment (bracket) that is glued on the tooth, and by an orthodontic alignment wire that is inserted into the brackets.

Oggi sono presenti sul mercato fili ortodontici che si differenziano per proprietà fisiche, spessore, ampiezza e per i materiali di cui sono composti. Today there are orthodontic wires on the market that differ in physical properties, thickness, width and in the materials they are made of.
In passato i fili ortodontici erano realizzati in acciaio e non semplici da usare perché richiedevano molte pieghe da effettuare manualmente per ottenere l’allineamento dei denti. In the past, orthodontic wires were made of steel and not easy to use because they required many bends to be made manually to achieve alignment of the teeth.

Detti fili ortodontici sono attivati dalla temperatura corporea del paziente: in condizioni di basse temperature i fili sono de-attivati e, di conseguenza, facili da manipolare; diversamente, quando inseriti nella bocca del paziente, si attivano grazie al calore corporeo tendendo a ritornare alla loro forma iniziale di cui conservano memoria. La scelta dei materiali à ̈ molto vasta e, non essendoci linee guida per la scelta dei materiali, chi non segue una tecnica precisa trova difficile scegliere i materiali più corretti. Spesso la scelta dei materiali, da parte del clinico, à ̈ frutto di una serie di sperimentazioni che consente di trovare una personale sequenza di fili. Tale approccio, comunque, comporta una notevole perdita di tempo oltre che di materiali creando difficoltà cliniche difficili da risolvere in studio. Più in particolare i fili contenuti nel kit sono del tipo termo-attivati realizzati in una lega a memoria di forma in nickel-titanio, in grado di aumentare la forza di allineamento in base alla temperatura corporea. Il kit prevede tre speciali fili nickel-titanio termici che si attivano a tre diverse e specifiche temperature corporee (ad esempio il Therma Ti Liteâ„¢ 35, Therma Tiâ„¢ 28, Therma Tiâ„¢ D della American Orthodonticsâ„¢): la fase di livellamento viene eseguita con un filo leggero che si attiva a 35 gradi; la fase di iniziale torque viene condotta con un filo attivo a 28 gradi corporei e la fase di perfezione occlusale si raggiunge con un filo attivo a 25 gradi.
