"ELETTRODO PER LA PROTEZIONE DI SERBATOI METALLICI CONTRO LA CORROSIONE " "ELECTRODE FOR THE PROTECTION OF METAL TANKS AGAINST CORROSION"
R I A S S U N T O SUMMARY
The object of the present invention is an anode (3) with impressed currents able to counteract the corrosion of the tank (2) of a storage water heater (1), whose bar (3.1) delivering the protection current is made of composite fiber material carbon.
DESCRIZIONE D E LL ' INVENZIONE DESCRIPTION OF THE INVENTION
The present invention relates to a device against corrosion of tanks containing electrically conductive liquids, water in particular. More specifically, the device is usefully applied to storage water heaters, electric or gas, with metal tank subject to corrosion and equipped with cathodic protection against the same, so-called to "impressed currents".
The type of impressed current cathodic protection is well known and fully described, in its operative variants, in patent applications No. EP 1426 467 and No. AN2005A000037, filed by the same applicant for the present patent and to which reference is made for a complete discussion of the 'topic.
In summary, cathodic protection with impressed currents is implemented by making the potential of the metal structure to be protected more negative than that of the aggressive environment, in this case water, to which the metal structure is exposed.
The lowering of the electric potential of the metal structure, up to values such as to cancel or drastically reduce the corrosive phenomena, is obtained by circulating direct current from a first electrode (mode) towards the metal structure of the tank, which acts as a second electrode (cathode ), through the aggressive environment which is electrically conductive.
This circulation of current is obtained by applying electrical energy by means of an external generator, having the negative pole electrically connected to the metal structure to be protected and the positive pole connected to the electrode which acts as an anode, which, for the rest, is electrically isolated. with respect to the metallic mass.
The choice of the material with which the impressed current anode is made is generally made on the basis of the amount of current it will have to deliver and its duration over time, trying to reconcile operating needs with those of economic savings.
The impressed current anodes known up to now are all made of metallic material, preferably of titanium or titanium alloys. Even more preferably the anode is made of titanium coated with a layer of mixed metal oxides, which allow to improve the electrical conductivity of the anode if it needs to be replaced.
The purpose of the present invention is to indicate an innovative material for the realization of an impressed current anode, which amplifies the advantages of duration, economy and corrosion resistance provided by the metallic materials used up to now.
Said object and further advantages are achieved with an impressed current anode as described below, with the aid of the accompanying illustrations, and in the appended claims, which form an integral part of the description itself.
Figure 1 shows, in section, a part of the tank of a storage water heater using an anode with impressed currents against corrosion according to the invention.
La figura 2 mostra, in dettaglio, l'anodo a correnti impresse contro la corrosione secondo l'invenzione. Figure 2 shows, in detail, the anode with impressed currents against corrosion according to the invention.
With reference to the drawings, the number 1 indicates, as a whole, a storage water heater having a tank 2 made of ferrous material and provided with a removable metal flange 4 bolted thereto.
The tank 2 comprises, according to the known art, one or more heating bodies 6 for heating the water and a sheath 5 containing one or more sensors of a thermostat.
Both the electrical resistance 6 and the sheath 5 are mounted on the flange 4 by known means, like the impressed current anode 3, electrically isolated from the said flange 4 by insulating means 3.3, and controlled by a current generator 7 which supplies the '' electricity required for the cathodic protection of the tank 2.
As described above, the current generator 7 has the negative pole terminal connected to the metallic mass of the tank 2, while the positive pole terminal is connected to the electrical connector 3.4 at the base of the impressed current anode 3.
Più in dettaglio, come visibile nella fig. 2, l'modo a correnti impresse 3 è composto: More in detail, as can be seen in fig. 2, the impressed current mode 3 is composed:
<->da una boccola dielettrica 3.3, atta a consentirne il fissaggio alla flangia 4 in modalità isolata rispetto al serbatoio 2; <-> by a dielectric bushing 3.3, adapted to allow it to be fixed to the flange 4 in an insulated manner with respect to the tank 2;
da un supporto 3.2 in materiale dielettrico, generalmente fibra di vetro mista a materiale plastico termoindurente, quali ad esempio taycona, rytron o fortron; a support 3.2 made of dielectric material, generally glass fiber mixed with thermosetting plastic material, such as for example taycona, rytron or fortron;
La detta barretta 3.1 può pertanto essere considerata la parte propriamente anodica dell'intero elettrodo 3. by a bar 3.1 which acts as a dispenser of the impressed current supplied by the current generator 7. Said bar 3.1 can therefore be considered the properly anodic part of the entire electrode 3.
The object of the present invention consists in making said bar 3.1 no longer in metallic material, such as for example titanium or its alloys, but in carbon fiber, which has been found to possess the most suitable characteristics to replace the metallic materials used up to now.
More precisely, the material used is a carbon fiber compound, comprising graphite filaments embedded in a thermosetting plastic resin, (for example epoxy resin), made using the known pultrusion technique.
The carbon fiber composite material thus obtained has mechanical resistance characteristics equal to, or even higher than, those of an extremely tough metal such as steel, but at the same time remarkable elasticity and lightness. Furthermore, carbon fiber has a very high reduction potential, guaranteeing excellent resistance to corrosion for the rod 3.1 of the anode 3 and, therefore, a longer life than the metals used up to now.
The main advantage of the rod 3.1 of the anode 3 according to the invention therefore consists in the increased duration of its period of use and in the improved anti-corrosion properties compared to the metals previously used, consequently also entailing an economic advantage.
A second order of advantages can be found in the simplicity of working of said composite material in carbon fiber with which the anode rod 3.1 is manufactured, since the graphite filaments are very elastic and easily treatable with the pultrusion technique.
