Oggi giorno è molto sentito il problema di disporre di uno scarpone da sci che permetta di mantenere, oltre ad un ottimale serraggio della gamba dello sciatore, anche un ottimale appoggio per la stessa, sia durante la pratica dello sci che durante la deambulazione. A parziale soluzione di tali problemi è noto un brevetto US N°3.729.841 in cui è illustrato uno scarpone da sci presentante un elemento sporgente superiormente all'estremità postreriore del gambale e ad esso lateralmente fulcrato: tale soluzione presenta però un elemento di per sé solamente oscillante, per cui svolge la mera funzione di accompagnare la gamba dello sciatore durante i movimenti di piegamento e distensione. E' anche noto un brevetto US N°4.203.235 in cui è illustrato uno scarpone presentante un elemento di appoggio poasteriore per il polpaccio realizzato in due pezzi, tra loro articolati, tra i quali risulta interponibile amovibilmente una fascia dotata di cunei trasversali interni.
