Tutti questi prodotti sono predisposti in diversi tipi per altrettante specifiche colture, dovendo soddisfare molteplici esigenze; possono essere infatti richiesti terricci per piante da appartamento, per piante fiorite da esterno delle più svariate tipologie, oppure per la realizzazione di tappeti erbosi o per la coltivazione orticola di alimenti; vi sono pure terricci universali, che ricoprono buona parte degli utilizzi hobbistici, e terricci destinati ad altri usi specifici.
