Abstract

The method for distributing broad-band services involves separating a broad-band front end of a receiver from other portions of a circuit. The front end is placed in the utility closets of a building, and is connected to; a modulator-demodulator (ASDL modem); a modulator or an amplifier. A signal is transferred from the ASDL modem and from a telephone exchange to an adder in order to mix the broad-band and telephone services. The signals are transferred over a telephone wire pair to an individual end user. The broad-band front end of the receiver is located in a fibre node and connected to a broad-band hybrid fibre-coaxial (HFC) network where the optical signal arriving from the fibre is converted into an electrical signal for transmission on coaxial cable.
