Abstract

A tap unit for gas cylinders comprises a body (10) with an internal valve seat (13), between an inlet and an outlet (U) or the gas, and a plug (12) which is designed to interact with the valve seat (13). The tap unit is also provided with, or incorporates, an excess flow valve, and optionally, a filter (22) which is located upstream from the plug (12) from the inlet part to the said body. The excess flow valve comprises a sleeve (18) having a seat 19, and a ball plug (20). The ball plug (20) blocks the passage of gas under conditions of excess flow or when the cylinder is overturned. Plug (12) is biased onto seat (13) by spring (16) and is lifted from the seat by a force (F, figure 1) when for example a pressure regulator, discharge device or filling device is attached.
