Abstract

For typical and atypical existing or new ro-ro ships, the vehicle area is equipped with many metal (and non metal) bulkheads of modifiable heights and geometries, fixed and/or movable, rigid and/or flexible, both transverse and longitudinal relative to the ship's axis in order to break up (without compromising the specific function of the ship when the bulkheads are inactive) the freestanding water caused by accidental flooding of the area and/or in order to limit its spread, thus protecting the ship against rapid overturning or at least allowing more time for individual and collective rescue operations to be instigated for the people and for the ship. The bulkheads may use prefabricated elements that fit onto the deck, sides and roof of the vehicle deck and under deck and, when inactive, will be visible or retractable with activation both from the deck and remotely using mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic or electrical energy generated or stored on board.
