Thin, multi-ply cellular plate (18) with good drawability consists of two, spaced, parallel, external sheets or films having an internal cellular structure fixed to and between them and defining a plane. The internal cellular structure is that of a compact, diamond- embossed sheet or film having multiple small scale, tri-dimensional reliefs and depressions distributed with uniform pitch, p, in mutually perpendicular directions in the plane. Also claimed is a process for producing the thin, multi-ply, cellular plate. It entails forming the compact, diamond-embossed sheet by impressing a bi-directional pattern of small scale tri-dimensional reliefs and depressions (13) on a sheet to form multiple cells, as claimed, and coupling the two external sheets to it in a rigid and permanent manner.
